Choices

At Lambs Farm, we offer people with developmental disabilities what they deserve — a life full of independence, meaning and productivity through choices. Choices allow individuals to meet new people, enjoy new adventures and be who they truly are. The way the men and women of Lambs Farm express their passions, achieve goals and celebrate their abilities is truly inspiring. Our 2018 Annual Report gives an inside look at how choices open the door to a life full of never-ending growth.

A Message from the President and CEO

Dear Friends,

At the very foundation of the Lambs Farm philosophy has always been the staunch belief of our Co-Foundersthat given the opportunity, people with developmentaldisabilities could lead meaningful, productive lives. Over the years, we have honored that belief, proven to be true time and again by our Participants. We have also learned to understand that a successful life must only be defined by the person who will live it.

As individuals, we all have different interests, abilities and needs. It is, therefore, not for us to design a lifestyle for each individual we serve. Instead, our person-centered philosophy assures each Participant the assistance they need to formulate their own independent plan based upon their expressed needs, desires and abilities. Our responsibility is to provide a diverse list of choices from which our Participants may choose as they create lives for themselves that are both personal and gratifying, and then modify that plan in a continuing effort to reach their goals as interests and needs evolve.

As time has gone on and our population has become more diverse, we have been fortunate to maintain our ability to offer a wide and ongoing variety of opportunities for all of the men and women we serve. The people and their interests remain our focus, rather than the programs themselves. Whether those interests involve living accommodations, employment, recreating,

leisure-time activities, sports competitions, or wellness, each Lambs Farm Participant has the opportunity to define his or her own life, and not one is the same as another.

Our Participants are very proud of their accomplishments. Each success gives them the confidence to pursue yet anotherchallenge. Their lives are theirs and theirs alone, grown out of sheer courage with the determination to succeed – and, most importantly lived in a way that fulfills their own needs.

Lambs Farm has always been a place where the possibilities are endless. We are grateful for the continued support of our many friends, without which we could not provide the opportunities our men and women deserve. Our hope is that you will stay with them on their journey to experience all that life has to offer.

Sincerely,

Our Mission

Lambs Farm Programs

With more than 57 years of service to people with developmental disabilities, the vision of our Co-Founders, Bob Terese and Corinne Owen, lives on and serves as the foundation for the future of Lambs Farm. An innovation from our inception, Lambs Farm has grown from a small pet shop in Chicago to a 72-acre campus where opportunity flourishes for nearly 250 men and women. Lambs Farm helps to create these opportunities by offering a growing number of options for Participants through a full range of employment, residential, wellness and life skills programs.

Employment and Day Program Services

The men and women of Lambs Farm have their own hobbies and passions. Some are fascinated by technology, others are intrigued by nature, and some enjoy art.

With so many choices available to them, Participants can explore their personal interests and grow as the unique individuals they truly are. The musical theater program offers Participants the chance to star in the annual play, while other Fine Arts and Quest classes provide an endless list of fun and enriching courses in the areas of social, leisure, education, wellness and community. The Special Olympics program is embraced by those who love sports, enjoy friendly competition and the camaraderie of being part of a team.

Every day, the men and women of Lambs Farm are assured an expanding array of options to chase their dreams and enjoy life.

The Lambs Farm campus businesses serve as vocational training sites for Participants, and teach valuable work skills. Participants may choose to work in community businesses. Individual placements are facilitated by the Lambs Farm employment specialist who works directly with Participants to be successful in their chosen jobs. Using a team approach, Supported Employment Programs meet the staffing needs of local businesses by providing an enclave of two-to-eight workers along with a Lambs Farm job coach. Participants at Lambs Industries, located near the Lambs Farm campus, undertake subcontract jobs such as packaging and assembly. When it is time to retire, Lambs Farm offers the Enrichment Center, which provides a variety of activities designed to help Participants have enjoyable and productive retirement years.

Residential Options

Lambs Farm offers residential options both on and off campus. Participants living in the campus group homes learn community and daily living skills in a supportive environment. The W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone Apartment Building features individual apartment units for Participants who have already acquired necessary daily living skills and require minimal staff support. The Green-Field intermediate care facility is home for Participants who require more staff assistance. Staff are available 24 hours a day to provide an increased level of care. Participants may also choose to live in a nearby community. These homes receive intermittent staff support.

Wellness, Recreation and Life Skills

The Wellness Center provides Participants a variety of options to practice healthy behaviors, offers a holistic approach to promoting healthy choices, and fosters a wellness culture. The focus is on overall health,

promoted through physical activities such as our Healthy Lambs exercise program and ten Special Olympics sports, as well as educating and encouraging our Participants to incorporate wellness into all aspects of their lives. The Founders Building, located on the Lambs Farm campus, holds a regulation-sized gym and physical fitness center. Social activities include specialinterest clubs, dances and many activities in the local communities.

The Quest Program provides opportunities for Participants to pursue their personal goals with classes available on a wide variety of topics, ranging from social and daily living skills to travel, history, sports and computers. Quest also offers many classes that help educate Participants on wellness-related topics.

The Fine Arts program offers classes in the visual and performing arts. On their days off of work Participants can also take part in Venture, a leisure skills program.

Community Involvement

The men and women of Lambs Farm are integral members of the communities surrounding the campus. Many volunteer at local churches, long-term care facilities and other local organizations. Others find camaraderie through membership in community groups. Participants may also choose to join group outings to sporting events, musicals, dinners and more or use scheduled transportation to visit area stores, libraries, theaters or restaurants. Whether participating in local events and activities, visiting area attractions, relaxing in the parks or shopping, our Participants fully enjoy all of the amenities of their local community.

Learning Learning

Education is an integral part of every individual’s life, and with the many choices available at Lambs Farm, learning never ends.

Outings, trips and classes provide an interactive way to expand knowledge and gain life-long skills. Job training allows Participants to learn how to be successful in their careers, and when retirement comes, the men and women of Lambs Farm continue to grow and acquire new skills through a variety of enrichment activities.

Though they are continually learning from others, the men and women of Lambs Farm teach us much more - what it means to embrace life with true meaning.

Fundraising Events

Friends of Lambs Farm advanced our mission in Fiscal Year 2018 by supporting our major fundraising events — Golf Day and our annual gala.

33rd Annual Lambs Farm Golf Day in Memory of Jack Stein

July 11, 2017

Almost 200 enthusiastic golfers signed up to support Lambs Farm by taking part in our 33rd Annual Lambs Farm Golf Day at the award-winning ThunderHawk Golf Club in Beach Park. Morning and afternoon tee times allowed more golfers to participate and offered a choice of morning Best Ball or afternoon Scramble. Golf Day raised over $166,000 through generous corporate, foundation, and individual contributions, and a good time was had by all.

Harvesting the Spirit, Downtown on the Farm November 4, 2017

Lambs Farm brought some down-home country charm to Venue SIX10 in Chicago when over 250 guests joined us for a festive evening of good food and good times, including music, dancing, and games. Guests competed to support our programs through bids for exciting experiences and interesting items in our live and silent auctions. The highpoints of the evening were a lively performance by the Lambs Farm Cast of Aladdin and special award presentations. The Casanova Award was given to our long-serving volunteers and friends Carol Benvenuti and Carol Zarnow, and the Living Legacy Award was presented to Jane Wagner.

Lambs Farm wishes to thank these businesses that employed our Participants during the past year.
