Every day, we witness the power of opportunity whether it’s a participant becoming more confident in a new role, a staff member discovering innovative ways to provide support, or a visitor connecting with our mission in a meaningful way. Together, we create an environment where individuals can learn, thrive, and build a bright future
This year, participants stepped out of their comfort zones and achieved things they thought they couldn’t. They embraced exciting challenges at work strengthening their skills, gaining confidence, and taking on new responsibilities. They formed friendships, navigated daily responsibilities, and dove into new experiences that enriched their lives. Exploratory classes and enrichment programs provided creative outlets, and wellness initiatives fostered a commitment to health and well-being.
Each success is a testament to the power of perseverance and proves our unwavering belief that everyone has something valuable to contribute Mastering a new task at work, expressing creativity in the art studio, competing in Special Olympics, or simply sharing moments of joy with friends every achievement reflects the spirit of Lambs Farm.

ABOUT LAMBS FARM SINCE 1961
Our co-founders envisioned a lifelong-learning organization where people with developmental disabilities could learn skills and have good jobs doing meaningful work. In 1961, they opened the Lambs Pet Shop on Chicago’s State Street and hired people with developmental disabilities to care for the animals and conduct the business of the shop. Interest from potential employees quickly exceeded the capacity of the small shop, so in 1965, they moved the organization to our current 72-acre campus near Libertyville, Illinois.
Today, Lambs Farm is a vibrant, robust organization serving adults with developmental disabilities We offer employment, residential, recreational and wellness services that help participants live more independently, have jobs, become healthier and stronger, and continue to learn and grow
VISION & MISSION
Our vision is that of a vibrant community where all participants live a full life, continue to grow and are empowered to make personal choices. Lambs Farm is a place where opportunities abound for people with developmental disabilities and a place where visitors witness their many abilities as our mission is brought to life before their eyes. Helping people with developmental disabilities lead productive, happy lives and connecting with the human spirit in us all.
LIVING
Lambs Farm offers participants a variety of living choices, including group homes, individual apartments, an intermediate care facility, and community homes. Wherever they live, participants form strong bonds with their housemates, learning essential life skills like meal preparation, managing household tasks, and creating fun memories together.
ANALYSIS
HOME BASED SUPPORT
The Home Based Support Self Direction Assistance program offers individuals with disabilities the opportunity to continue to live with their family or semi-independently with provided support. Self direction assistants help the individual, or the individual’s family or representative, to arrange for, direct and manage services.
LEARNING
At Lambs Farm, we focus on providing new experiences—key to personal growth and enrichment.
LF STUDIOS
Our new art initiative, LF Studios, empowers participants of all skill levels to create, grow, and even sell their artwork. Whether they’re newcomers or seasoned artists, participants have the chance to explore their passion for art.
QUEST
From woodworking to cooking, Quest offers a wide range of activities that encourage participants to step outside the box, explore new interests, and find hobbies that spark joy.
GROWING STRONG
ENRICHMENT
Participants in retirement stay engaged with activities like yoga, arts and crafts, and current events.
RECREATION & WELLNESS
The Wellness Center, complete with a regulation-sized gym and physical fitness center, gives participants the resources and equipment needed to live a balanced lifestyle. Our dedicated athletes take great pride in competing in the 10+ Special Olympics sports offered year round, and the Healthy Lambs exercise program educates and motivates participants to make their health a priority.
The Lambs Farm dietitian teaches participants the importance of incorporating good habits into their daily routines and how healthy choices help us become the best version of ourselves.
WORKING
Building on the legacy of our co-founders, Lambs Farm remains committed to providing robust employment support and opportunities. Our dedicated team assists participants every step of the way—from developing pre-employment skills and navigating job applications to offering job coaching as they transition into fulfilling roles. Whether working in our on-site businesses or contributing to local companies, individuals gain confidence, responsibility, and valuable workplace experience. These opportunities empower participants to build skills, achieve independence, and find a sense of accomplishment on their path to personal and professional growth.
