As a central Trust team our role is to develop partnership working with colleagues within Academies to support the Academy business strategy. We will work hand in hand with colleagues across our academies to deliver support, understand your priorities and provide a service that enables you to achieve your Academy cross-Trust objectives.
Our purpose is to work in partnership with colleagues across the Trust to provide specialist support which enable Academy leaders to focus on providing excellent teaching and learning. As enablers, each of our functions will support you to meet your strategic goals and run an efficient Academy.
This partnership aims to foster a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship in the pursuit of educational excellence and the advancement of our shared vision of transforming lives through extraordinary education.

HOW WE WILL DO THIS?
Working with key stakeholders within individual Academies we will-
• Embed and sustain systems and structures that enable teachers to develop and embed their expertise.
BEHAVIOUR & ATTENDANCE: Ensuring our Academies are places where all students attend regularly, are kept safe, feel calm and supported, and are able to actively participate and progress.
DESTINATIONS:
ACCESSIBLE TO ALL: Operating fair access. Welcoming and effectively teaching disadvantaged children and children with SEND from our local areas.
INCLUSIVE PASTORAL SUPPORT:
Supporting students and our Academies when addressing issues so students can stay in mainstream school where possible. Supporting students to re-join mainstream education when they have spent time in Alternative Provision.
Ensuring all children leave our Academies well prepared for the next stage of education, employment or training and prepared to be confident citizens.
COLLABORATION: Working collaboratively with Academies, trusts, local authorities, dioceses, parents and other civic partners to ensure the delivery of statutory functions and acts in the wider interests of the local community.
• Embed and sustain systems that monitor and track the quality of teaching across the Trust, which takes account of limitations in reliability and validity and feed into data-driven improvement activity.
• Monitor the progress that all children are making, taking into account the differences on what good progress is for individuals.
• Embed a culture of reading, including supporting all pupils to develop their vocabulary and read fluently.
• Create the best learning environment for individual children, ensuring that children with SEND learn in mainstream classrooms where it is in their best interests.
• Hold regular review meetings with key stakeholders to address emerging issues.
• Facilitate regular workshops/training sessions on School Improvement topics and subject areas.
• Provide appraisal for Head Teachers.
• Provide Local Governing Bodies with accurate school performance information.
• Lead curriculum conversation meetings to identify priorities and target resources.
• Facilitate partnerships so all Academies can learn from the best practice, both within LST and beyond.
• Provide coaching and training for aspiring leaders.




Providing professional employee relations support and advice to line managers across the trust at informal and formal stages. This includes policy review to ensure legislative compliance (inc KCSIE) and best practice update. We support managers with advice at informal stages of casework up to acting as investigating officers and supporting at formal hearings. We will forge and maintain relationships with Union colleagues and consult as appropriate.
WHAT WE HAVE RESPONSIBILITY FOR?
We lead on the TUPE to support the onboarding of new schools, restructure and reorganisation initiatives including partnering with leadership teams to develop workforce and talent plans.
We provide specialist advice to managers in all aspects of people management including early resolution and formal workplace mediation. We will design and facilitate proactive, regular upskilling and training sessions.
Collating and effectively using staff data to highlight key areas for support e.g. sickness absence data.
We will act as central health and wellbeing specialists and work with key school contacts to devise strategies and implement interventions. This will include specialist occupational health advice and advising on reasonable adjustments in the workplace.
We advise on all aspects of pay, benefits and reward
We provide a specialist people and culture administrative advisory service, providing colleagues with contracts, letters and templates for employment. We own the relationship with our payroll bureau and provide an administrative ‘People and Culture guide’ to individual schools to aid self-service on all people related administration.
We lead on Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) employment matters, administering and advising on appropriate pre-employment checks including DBS, medical and overseas clearance.
We provide specialist advice in all aspects of recruitment, selection and onboarding.
We will support talent development initiatives through a review of our performance management cycle, linking workforce planning to ensure career pathways are identified cross Trust.
HOW WE WILL DO THIS?
Working with key stakeholders within individual Academies, we will:
• Hold regular review meetings with key stakeholders.
• Facilitate regular workshops/training sessions on People and Culture topics.
• Run termly staff pulse surveys with a focus on different issues as highlighted by staff, this will involve updates on actions taken from previous surveys.
• Provide Senior Leadership Teams with a ‘People Dashboard’ with key metrics and commentary to inform actions.
• Provision of online, phone and in-person advice and guidance notes.
• Attend management and INSET days as appropriate to seek feedback and share initiatives.
• Utilise support from 3rd parties.
HOW WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK TOGETHER?
• Managers are expected to be efficient and effective in managing their teams, working in partnership with the central People and Culture team on early intervention strategies.
• We need you to engage and provide feedback at regular intervals including participating in staff surveys.
• Co-develop the ‘People and Culture guide’ with us and follow the guidance within it including timely payroll, pre-employment checking and recruitment and selection information.

• Advise, support and lead on new data systems for your Academy and across the Trust
• Support you to meet DfE and external stakeholder returns, i.e. School Census
• Support you in using available systems to analyse your school performance information
• Ensure the data dashboard provides high and in-depth analysis at Academy and Trust level
• Assist in the setup and management of assessment and monitoring of pupil progress within the MIS and associated systems
• Support the use of curriculum-led financial planning across the Trust
• Act as the Trust’s Data Protection Officer, providing support to academies to meet their obligations under the Data Protection Act
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK OF YOU?
• Maintain high standards of pupil and staff data across all Academy systems
• Complete all statutory returns within the statutory time frames
• Ensure sufficient resources are in place to manage key assessment dates in the academic year, including examination results, and change of year processes in the MIS
• Identify an Academy Data Protection Lead to ensure effective implementation of the Data Protection Policy at an academy level including the management of Subject Access Requests and Data Breaches in conjunction with the Trust’s Data Protection Officer
• Use curriculum-led financial planning and changing demographic information to inform any staffing decisions
• Consult with the team on any new data system implementations for your Academy or across the Trust
• Provide reasonable notice for any support requirements from the LST Data and Systems Team

• Manage all governance related matters and ensure governance structures are compliant, meeting statutory and regulatory legislation.
• Advise the Trust Board and it’s committees of legal and regulatory frameworks. This should include annual reviews of the Articles of Association and Scheme of Delegation for the Trust.
• Work closely with Chairs on preparation of papers.
• Manage governing body memberships including vacancies and expiring terms of office.
• Provide a fully thought-out induction programme of governors and Trustees. This includes completion of all paperwork, code of conduct, initial support, guidance and information on MAT governance.
• Manage all Governor and Trustee recruitment.
• Manage all permanent exclusion panel meetings.

• Manage all complaints which meet central threshold.
WHEN WILL YOU SEE ME?
• For any Governance related matters, permanent exclusion panels or complaint panels.
• Curate, maintain and distribute the governance calendar, with draft agendas for the upcoming academic year.
• Work with the Chair of Governors and Principals /Headteachers to amend any agendas and discuss ‘hot topics’ upcoming in governance.
• Ensure the governance web-page is kept up to date inclusive of Governor profiles.
• Update and monitor Governor declaration of interests and attendance documents, publishing these online to ensure compliance with the ATH.
• Ensure the Get Information About Schools website is kept up to date with Governors and Trustees terms of office
• Manage all elements of governor recruitment, inclusive of parent governors.
• Follow and maintain the induction process for all Governors, inclusive of managing DBS, keeping the Governor and Trustee single central record updated
• Consistently liaise with all governors ensuring details and information are kept updated and to ensure attendance at LGB meetings.
• Manage all academy complaints when reaching the required level for governance intervention.
• Manage all permanent exclusions for all academies
• Provide support and guidance to the Trust in all matters relating to governance, inclusive of all Academies where they require this.
• Create, distribute and evaluate all LGB and Trustee skills audit, presenting these during LGB meetings.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:
• Complete all required documentation for any governance related meeting.
• Redact where necessary any required documents for Governors, Trustees or any third parties.
• Meet with Governors and Trustees where needed to ensure there is a fluid cycle of communication and governance (link Governor meetings).
• Check all Governors’ paper DBS at Academy level after initial review from the central governance team.
• Complete all relevant academy related policies in regards to statutory compliance and in line with the Trust Policy Delegation documentation.
• Attend all LGB meetings and any extraordinary/panel meetings as necessary.
• Ensure systems are in place to allow for the recruitment of parent governors as managed by the central governance team.
• Follow safer recruitment procedures and record this on the central governance SCR.
• Monitor and review the complaints policy an Governor visit policy.
• We will monitor review and ask for any necessary policies in line with Trust cycle and policy delegation.

WHAT I HAVE RESPONSIBILITY FOR?

• Creating and implementing our Annual Marketing Strategy - this will focus on key strategic priorities of the Trust such as staff recruitment, early years promotion and brand awareness
• Annual marketing campaign plan - this takes into account objectives that better all LST Academies
• Laidlaw Schools Trust social media, with the aim of raising the profile of LST
• Internal communications from LST Central Team
• Brand guidelines alignment
WHEN WILL YOU SEE ME?
I will be around intermittently depending on what marketing activity is going on at your Academy at the time, e.g. when we are running activity to increase numbers in Early Years, I may be around to get your input, take photos if necessary, and map out the best way to communicate our message to your specific community.
If you have any big news or events please invite me along - I’d love to help spread the word whether it’s through increasing press coverage, assisting with photography or even just to help with ideas.
• Coverage of Academy news and events via LST LinkedIn, Twitter and website. This will be fed to me through the quarterly form as well as reactive
• Transition marketing to guide pupils through our primary, secondary and 6th forms - this will include a transition brochure and a prospectus for each LST academy
• A branding pack so you have all of the information in one easy to access place
• Increasing awareness of our academies and their unique selling points through signage
• Social media, marketing and comms guidance any time you want it, just get in touch
• Website guidance or I can organise full training through Cleverbox
• Branding support on how to use guidelines
• Graphic design and event support - levels of support will vary and be judged against LST objectives
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK OF YOU?
• Fill our a three-monthly form with school events, news and updates that I can share on LST social media and crossacademy communications. *timeline for this - when I will send information request and how long academy will have to fil it in*
• Co-operation with parent comms when needed
• Assistance in visual asset collection such as photography/ videography days
Run targeted marketing campaigns to react to LST and Academy needs for 2023/24, including:
• Early Years Enrolment
• Increase enrolment numbers to ensure as many first preference admissions as possible
• Increase awareness of LST and it’s Academies to attract the best teachers and support staff into our vacant roles
