From the DIRECTOR

NOELLE MARION

I believe that laughter connects us. I believe that it heals. What an honor then to bring this brilliant comedy to life at Laguna Playhouse!

I first encountered A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder in the early part of its Broadway run. Within the first ten minutes of the production- I was immediately eager to see it again, by intermission- I was determined to one day be a part of a production of it, and when the curtain came down- it had earned a spot within my top favorite musicals.

Drawing inspiration from a charming, yet little known novel, Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal, which was subsequently adapted into an equally amusing film, “Kind Hearts and Coronets”, Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak have created a musical that is equal parts clever, innovative, alluring, hilarious, and delightfully dark. Set in Edwardian England, the piece pays homage to British music halls and Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, while guiding us through one man’s murderous quest to rise above his class.

My deepest hope is that you are charmed by the wit, the heart, and the silliness, but most of all, I hope you laugh! Enjoy the show!
