Ingenuity on the Hill

by Dr. Susanna L. Baxter, 26th President of LaGrange College

I am amazed. Looking back over this past academic year, I stand in awe of all your college has accomplished to educate students in the midst of a pandemic.

We didn’t just have in-person classes, faculty brought innovative approaches to the classroom and new ideas to co-curricular events. We hosted live theater outdoors at Sunny Gables and “parking lot” concerts, drive-by mortarboard distributions and simultaneous socially distanced and online activities.

Students also rose to the challenge with imagination and persistence, allowing us to conclude the year with an in-person commencement ceremony for the Classes of 2020 and 2021.

Our faculty, staff and students made all of this look easy when it was, in fact, anything but. Please congratulate them when you have the opportunity.

Now we are approaching a fall semester that we hope will look much more normal than the last. While there’s no way to know what COVID-19 will do next, I am confident in the ingenuity and tenacity of those on the Hill.

Thank you for your prayers and support during this past year and as we look toward fall.
