July is Parks and Recreation Month With 1,300 acres of open space, 20 miles of trails, 19 parks, and an award-winning recreation center, EVERY month is parks and recreation month in Lafayette! But in July, we take time out to really celebrate all the marvelous amenities here in the community. Play is a vital part of mental well-being, physical health, and personal interactions. During Park and Recreation Month, the Lafayette Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department challenges everyone to get their play on! Whether it’s skateboard camp, an adult kickball league, paddleboats at Waneka Lake, biking the Coal Creek Trail, standup paddleboard classes, meeting friends at Whitetail Park, running through the splash pad at Festival Plaza, playing a round of golf at Indian Peaks, picnicking at LaMont Does, or hanging out at the Great Bark Dog Park — parks and play go hand in hand.
