SIR GALAHAD DR

The 120th Street and South Boulder Road corridors have operational and safety deficiencies and experience frequent traffic congestion. Both roadways are important transportation corridors supporting mobility in the City of Lafayette and Boulder County. Improvements are needed to: • Meet current and future traffic demands • Improve operational efficiency EMMA ST of the roadways • Improve traveler safety through FLAGG DR the study area • Accommodate multimodal connections

Level of Service (LOS) Descriptions Unsignalized Intersections

Signalized Intersections

LOS Description

LOS Description

A

A

No vehicle waits longer than one signal indication

B

On a rare occasion vehicles wait through more than one signal indication

C

Intermittently vehicles wait through more than one signal indication, occasionally backups may develop, traffic flow still stable and acceptable

D

Delays at intersections may become extensive, but enough cycles with lower demand occur to permit periodic clearance, preventing excessive backups

E

Very long queues may create lengthy delays

F

Backups from locations downstream restrict or prevent movement of vehicles out of approach creating a “gridlock condition

Average control delay per vehicle for the yielding movement does not exceed 10 seconds.

LOS A A B

Average control delay per vehicle for the yielding movement is less than 15 seconds.

LOS B B C

Average control delay per vehicle for the yielding movement is less than 25 seconds.

LOS C C D

Average control delay per vehicle for the yielding movement is less than 35 seconds.

LOS D D E

Average control delay per vehicle for the yielding movement is less than 50 seconds.

LOS E E F

Average control delay per vehicle for the yielding movement is greater than 50 seconds.

Options Considered

120th Street

South Boulder Road

Two options for the alignment of 120th Street were examined. • Existing Alignment - future trail would use old railroad right-of-way • Realignment - 120th Street would curve along the old railroad right-of-way and the future trail would be separated along the existing roadway right-of-way

Both a three-lane and four-lane typical section were considered for South Boulder Road.
