The first Baby Boomers began turning 65 in 2011. By 2029 when all Boomers have turned 65, this generation will make up more than 20 percent of the total U.S. population. After reflecting on this changing demographic, it was clear to the Lafayette Senior Services Department that their customer base spanned two distinct and different generations—those born before 1946 and those born after. Providing the right kind of service to each would be increasingly important. It was from this clarity that the City moved to rebrand the department and its services to the Lafayette GO! Services (Grown-Up Opportunities) to provide interest-specific activities and services for both generations served.

| COMMUNITY LIFE

A Letter From The Mayor We love living in this community–what makes it so special? It’s about investment. The fabric of our

community is made up of artists, tech geeks, musicians, passionate young students, small business owners, committed board members, busy families, volunteers, active seniors, and everyone in between; all strengthening our community. I recently spoke to students from Lafayette and Pioneer Elementaries, Angevine Middle School and Centaurus High School about our town. We discussed how city government works and how the city provides services such as clean water, safe streets, beautiful parks, rec center, library, open space, trails, public art, and solar power. What makes all of this possible? It’s about investment. We have an incredible city staff that is able to provide excellent service because our community members are civically engaged and invest their time and money into Lafayette. Shopping locally is key, but so is good citizenship. Last year approximately 600 volunteers committed over 18,750 hours to supplement and support City services at the Library, Police Station, Recreation Center, Senior Center and in parks. What a testament to the dedication of our community members.

The more we invest in our community, the more our community can invest in us!
