LDD: Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from and what got you started in design? Sara Mena: I'm originally from the Bay Area but I've lived in Los Angeles for 6 years. I love the culture here and the fast paced environment. It keeps me inspired. I started sketching and sewing in high school and haven't stopped creating since. What is special about your designs and makes them stand out? I take classic pieces and add modern twists for today's woman. Mixing prints with prints in interesting ways. Making the modern woman feel sexy and confident. What's your favorite part about conceptualizing a design? Having everything come together in the end, and seeing it all together. The end product. What matters to you most as a fashion designer? Making the customer feel great in what they’re wearing. Hearing those three words: "I love this. How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show? Any special rituals? I'm a horrible procrastinator. I procrastinate what I can just to be sure I don't forget anything for the shoot, but with shows I'm a lot more spread out with my time. How would you define your personal style? I love wearing skinny leg color pants with oversize tops and long cardigans. I feel like I don't have to match all the time just coordinate. With that said, how would you define the style your line exemplifies? My pieces are classic with a modern twist. Where do you get your inspiration? I pull inspiration from old classic movies and music. I love watching the old classics. Who are some of your favorite designers? Diane Von Furstenburg, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, and Valentino. What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers? Once you have that momentum of creating, don't stop. Fashion never sleeps. You always have to be one step ahead. Where can our readers get their own Mena'sera designs? Visit http://www.menasera.com!
