Leavenworth Christmas Tree Lighting

(18+ yrs) There is no place like the Bavarian town of Leavenworth during the Christmas season. The town is dressed to the hilt with chestnuts roasting on an open fire, carolers strolling the streets, food booths, local crafts, outdoor entertainment, children sledding, and more! You’ll enjoy shopping or just browsing in all of the unique stores and galleries along Front Street. If you’re hungry, grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in town, especially those offering delicious German food. At dusk, everyone gathers to sing “Silent Night” and witness the lighting of the Christmas tree and village as it is transformed into a magical wonderland of lights. Meals are on your own, so bring sack lunch/dinner or money.

Snowy Owl Adventure and Hike at Damon Point

(18+ yrs) The elusive Snowy Owl has been a “no show” on our coast for the last couple years, but we are trying it AGAIN because the visit to the coast is worth it, owls or no owls. With four miles of beach walking and water on three sides, Damon Point is one of the best winter places to hike and view wildlife in the North Beach area of the Pacific Coast. A sunny day will reveal views of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics, and Westport on the other side of the harbor. Bring your binoculars or telephoto lenses to capture shorebirds, bald eagles, and especially look for visiting snowy owls and endangered snowy plovers. Although, located within the harbor, it does get windy, wet, and cold, so dress for the weather. Bring money for lunch at a local eatery.

Hikes

Big Creek

Always within earshot of tumbling water, we will hike clockwise and cross over a bridge spanning Big Creek above a gorgeous cascade. After 1 mile the grade gets steeper. Mount Washington hovering above can occasionally be seen through gaps in the forest canopy. At 1.7 miles we’ll come to a junction. We can continue straight on the loop, or take an interesting side trip dropping to the confluence of Big and Branch Creeks. Round trip is 4.5 miles with an elevation gain of 900 feet. Difficulty rating: Easy to Moderate.

We will be hiking on a well-maintained trail through the forest with views of the Cedar River watershed, Mount Si, Mount Washington, Rattlesnake Lake, and Chester Morse Lake. The Ledge is located on the eastern end of Rattlesnake Ridge, and is the perfect spot to enjoy panoramic views. But it’s not just the summit that’s wonderful - you’ll spend the entirety of your ascent enveloped by lush fir trees, ferns, and mossy boulders. You’ll feel like you’re walking through a magical forest. Roundtrip is close to 4 miles with an elevation gain of 1,160 feet. Difficulty rating: Easy to Moderate.

“Just the right fit” for all new and returning swimmers. Utilizing well-organized progressions, swimmers will practice breath control, basic swimming strokes, safety skills, and how to have fun in the water! No pre-requisite skills required.

All swimmers in Level 1, 2 & 3 are required to wear a “learn to swim” float vest (provided at pool) if less than 48 inches tall. Class is located in shallow end.

Instructors will introduce and guide swimmers through new strokes including back crawl, butterfly, and breast stroke while continuing to teach safety and skill refinement. Current swimmers can enroll for Level 4 if they have an instructor evaluation card indicating they have accomplished the required skills. Participants will be in deep water, swimming the width of the pool.

To register for Level 4, instructor approval is required.

Requests for registration changes must be made before the session begins. Call 360-491-0857 to request a change, if space is available.
