Free radicals are very unstable fragments of molecules that can affect any cellular component through oxidation: DNA, structural proteins, membrane lipids and enzymes... In the dermis, they damage the structural components that account for the youth of the skin, like collagen and elastine fibers, or reserves of hyaluronic acid, and engender an acceleration of skin aging. Among the factors stimulating excessive and harmful production of free radicals is UVA radiation, which is constant all year long.

Alga-Gorria ®, a patented extract, is a powerful antioxidant. It is composed of a synergistic blend of carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin) and mycosporine-like amino acids that gives it the power to neutralize a wide variety of free radicals.

The antioxidant activity of Alga-Gorria® was shown by an in vitro test measuring the extract’s capacity to inhibit lipidic peroxidation. Lipidic peroxidation is a marker of oxidative stress and skin aging: free radicals degrade constitutive lipids of the cellular membrane, then skin proteins like collagen and elastin, leading to loss of fiber elasticity, drooping, and folding of the skin.

The test demonstrated inhibition of lipid peroxidation up to 64% in the presence of Alga-Gorria®.
