PowerField believes in solar energy, in addition to reducing CO2 emissions, and idealistic considerations, the efficiency of solar panels, of course, extremely important. Our mission is using solar energy to generate clean, sustainable and livable world for future generations

The breakthrough came thanks to a call from the Netherlands Antilles. The question came from Aruba, which would be the first country in the world completely green and if we could do something for them. In that period on Aruba we were called by the municipality of Leek (the Netherlands), whether we could set up a solar power plant. That resulted in a solar park of 60,000 panels and gave a lot of media attention. We were then approached weekly by other municipalities who wanted also such solar park All the lights are currently on green to make great strides in the energy transition. The climate summit in Paris in late 2015 has contributed to the awareness and the need for changes. One off the products are the 24/7 Solar Power Off Grid System. Basically, power is generated by the solar panels, wind turbines or whatever, and is fed into a bank of batteries to be stored for use when required. The power can then be used direct-ly from the batteries, or passed via an inverter for use with normal mains appliances.

Moreover, solar can be highly financially profitable, provided that one understands how to make it bankable… By Jos van Schagen It is without doubt that today solar energy is much more than just a sustainable alternative to energy out of fossil resources, that – also without doubt – is environmentally harmful and will be exhausted one day. Despite the simple truth that earth may indeed become a very unpleasant place for any lifeform
From this perspective solar energy should not just be perceived as an absolute necessity, but as well as an attractive business opportunity. After all, an entirely new industry has been built around solar energy, facing an increasing demand for affordable and sustainable energy, requiring technical innovations and more efficient large scale production methods of robust solar panels and converters. Needless to say that, in order to book substantial progress in turning solar energy into a worthy alternative to traditional energy, capital funding is essential. Fortunately more and more governments as well as many private companies plus millions of individuals appear to be very well prepared to invest in solar projects, which have become much more cost effective since early developments. However, like in any business, there will always be risks and uncertainties involved, justifying questions like: what are the chances of discontinuity due to technical defects or commercial mismanagement? Which quality aspects should be taken into consideration when investing in a solar plant? Which parties can be trusted? What if a manufacturer appears unable to compensate for unforeseen manufacturers defects due to bankruptcy? What if a storm hits my solar field?

Team It starts with enthusiastic students and professionals all were members of the solar boat teams of their universities (Van Hall Larenstein and NHL). By combining their experience and knowledge about solar powered boats, to develop an innovative solar powered racing boat and to give sustainable mobility a boost The main goal of this team is to improve their solar powered boat and participate in as many worldwide races as possible. The foundation Dutch Solar Boat Early in 2013, the foundation Dutch Solar Boat was realized. This foundation has developed a racing boat, powered entirely by solar energy!
The Dutch Solar Boat is an electric race boat powered by the sun! With four regular but special selected solar panels and an efficient designed hull, our solar boat manages speeds up to 30 km/h!! We designed the hull of our race boat together with Gaastmeer, it is a special design for inland waters. The main reason was the World Championship Dong Energy Solar Challenge which is held in the various inland waters of the Netherlands. We have managed to sail on the Mid Atlantic sea in Monaco with this small boat. Because of the low bow several waves rolled over the boat but we made it to the finish line. As a power source we use the four solar panels that produce max. 1000 watt and secondly a 1,5kWh special produced lipo battery. We are not allowed by the rules of the several races to use other panels then prescription by the race organizations; this also applies for the 1,5kWh battery. With all the other parts; the mppt-trackers, drivetrain, propellor, weight of the hull and other units we are free to make the boat as efficient and fast as possible.
By using high quality TeXtreme carbon fiber the boat is very lightweight. This was the first time we worked with carbon fiber and it proved to be very strong and efficient during several races. Also we printed a part of the motor pod, under the waterline, by using 3D printing technology. This year we will introduce and test our self-made hydrofoils. By using hydrofoils the boat will be lifted out of the water at a speed of approximately 12 km/u. When this happens there will be less friction and the boat will be more efficient and reaches higher speeds. R ACE RESULT S A - CL A SS: 2 016 1E

Climate change, globalization, a growing world population and digitization have global consequences. Worldwide, there is a need for knowledge and properly trained people who are able to contribute towards solutions to problems around the preservation and sustainable use of land and water, biodiversity, food security and the transition to a bio-based economy.
The core business of VHL University of Applied Sciences is to educate students to become professionals and to prepare them for the requirements of the labour market. Based on these starting points, VHL has designed an educational vision, which provides a framework for how the education at VHL is conducted and organized. The educational vision states that our educational concept offers space to individual students for the development of their talents and professional competences in an inspiring environment.
Mission internationalization VHL University of Applied Sciences aims to be an international university of applied sciences with an internationally oriented study environment. The work field the students of VHL are prepared for is increasingly internationally focused and has a multicultural character. This means that the acquiring of competences concerning the skill of working in an international environment is not only important for students who aspire to work abroad, but also for students who wish to stay in the Netherlands. By incorporating international competences into the curriculum of the VHL study programs, VHL University of Applied Sciences matches the ambition towards internationalization as formulated by the VSNU (Association of universities in the Netherlands) and the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences.
