Emergency Oil Stocks Release Precursor to Attack on Iran? Paul Joseph Watson Thursday, March 15, 2012 Three US warships to encircle Iran within days The announcement that emergency oil stocks will be released by the United States and the UK, a move that will temporarily drive down prices, could be the precursor to an attack on Iran that will send crude prices soaring again.“Britain has decided to cooperate with the United States in a bilateral agreement to release strategic oil stocks, two British sources said, in an effort to prevent high fuel prices derailing economic growth in a U.S. election year,” reports Reuters. Details of the agreement will be released later today and the process is expected to be implemented by the summer, which is the deadline numerous observers have put on any potential military strike on Iran. The move is ostensibly aimed at driving down oil prices, which have reached up to $125 a barrel for brent crude, but it could also be a maneuver to offset the inevitable spike in oil prices should Iran retaliate against the U.S. and Israel by closing the Strait of Hormuz. “Crude down big on the news, which is merely an advance move ahead of almost inevitable war with Iran, simply to make the spike more palatable,” reports Zero Hedge. Iran was today eliminated from the SWIFT global financial transaction service, a move that makes it impossible for Tehran to conduct international trade via conventional methods. Iran’s economy has been under sustained attack for months, with western sanctions largely responsible for a 10-year low in oil production. According to reports out of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu now has now for the first time secured a majority of votes in the cabinet to go to war with Iran. “This means that theoretically Bibi can begin an attack at any time. Of course, it could mean something different: it could mean the cabinet has approved a strike at any point in future with Bibi determining the timing. So it doesn’t necessarily mean the F-16s will fly tonight or tomorrow. But it could,” writes Richard Silverstein. Last month the Washington Post reported that US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta expected Israel to hit Iran in April, May or June. There are already two carrier battle groups located in the waters just outside Iran, with the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Abraham Lincoln already stationed in the region, along with the USS Makin Island (LHD-8), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship. A third US battleship, the USS Enterprise, is also on its way to the region, meaning that almost the entirety of the United States’ active naval fleet of warships will be stationed just outside Iran within the next 4-6 days. The US has made it clear that should Iran try to block the Strait of Hormuz, the region’s key oil choke point, a “red line” will have been crossed. The Stratfor naval update map below illustrates how Iran is being surrounded by military muscle

Monsanto’s Roundup is Killing Human Kidney Cells Anthony Gucciardi Thursday, March 15, 2012 Monsanto’s ‘biopesticide’ known as Bt is not only developing mutated insects and requiring excessive pesticide use, but new findings show that it is also killing human kidney cells — Amazingly, Monsanto’s superweed-breeding Roundup also has the same effect. Scientists have demonstrated in new research that the Bt pesticide, in addition to Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide Roundup, exhibit direct toxicity to human cells. The findings add to the long list of hazardous effects presented by Monsanto’s genetically modified creations. These dangerous Bt crops currently engulf 39% of globally cultivated GMO crops, and Monsanto does not seem to be slowing down on their campaign to expand usage. Led by Gilles-Eric Séralini, a French scientist from the University of Caen, Séralini and his team are no strangers to the toxic effects of both Bt and glyphosate — the main component used in Roundup. Previously, Séralini and a group of other scientists found that Roundup is linked to infertility, killing testicular cells in rats. The report stated that within 1 to 48 hours of exposure, testicular cells of the mature rats were either damaged or killed. At only 100 parts per million (ppm), Monsanto’s biopesticide lead to cell death. Furthermore, they found that Roundup at 57.2ppm killed half of the cell population – 200 times below agricultural use. This is concerning as researchers have previously detected Roundup in 41% of the 140 groundwater samples taken from Catalonia Spain that were actually above the limit of quantification. Even in very small doses, the research indicates that Roundup appears to be assaulting your biology. It has also been divulged that Roundup is damaging other life outside of humans, shown to decrease the population of monarch butterflies by killing the very plants

that the butterflies rely on for habitat and food. A 2011 study published in the journal Insect Conservation and Diversity found that increasing usage of genetically modified Roundup Ready corn and soybeans is significantly contributing to the decline in monarch butterfly populations within North America due to the destruction of milkweed. The evidence that Monsanto’s biopesticide and Roundup alike are disrupting both nature and human safety is clear, yet little is being done about it. Even the EPA is being bombarded with calls to action, with 22 academic corn experts now warning the EPA that GMO crops are devastating the future of agricultural production. When will corporate giant Monsanto be held accountable for the devastation of their creations? This article first appeared at Natural Society The World According to Monsanto Food, Inc. Gates Foundation gives $220 mln for TB research AFP March 15, 2012 Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates and his wife are to give $220 million over five years to the non-profit biotech firm Aeras to develop vaccines to fight tuberculosis, a company statement said Thursday.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is donating the money to Aeras which from its bases in the United States and South Africa has developed six possible TB vaccines that are being tested across Africa, Asia, Europe and America. "This infusion of funding must be seen as a global call to action in response to one of the world's deadliest diseases," said Jim Connolly, Aeras's president and chief executive, expressing gratitude for the massive grant. "It will allow Aeras to expand upon existing partnerships in Europe, Africa, China, and around the world." A total of 8.8 million people globally fell ill with the contagious lung disease in 2010 and around 1.4 million died, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Trevor Mundel, president of the global health program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said the development of successful vaccines "would be the single greatest advance in the global fight against TB." Once known as "consumption" for the slow wasting away of the people who died of it, one out of every three people is thought to be infected by the airborne TB organism, though only a fraction go on to develop the disease. The WHO estimates the global economic burden of TB is $12 billion a year, with India and China together accounting for more than half that cost.
