Selecting Your Countertop Vendor You want your countertops to look great and perform well, so choosing the right vendor is as important as choosing the right material. You can ensure you get quality and experience that yield spectacular results by asking the following questions:

What professional accreditations or industry certifications do you hold? Reputable fabricators hold MIA (Marble Institute of America) accreditation or some type of certification for compliance, assurance and quality craftsmanship. Majestic proudly holds this accreditation and is dedicated to product quality, expert installation and customer satisfaction.

What countertop materials to you offer? From quartz to marble, soapstone to solid surfaces, a quality vendor will have several options for you to choose from to meet your budget as well as your design goals.

Do you offer slab viewing? If so, can I select which parts of the slab will be used in my project? You can often get better pricing if you choose from materials that are in stock, so ask about the vendor’s slab viewing policies. Since the colors and veining can vary greatly on a single slab of natural stone, you may want certain parts to be more prominently shown than others. A good fabricator will help you maximize the slab features you like most while minimizing waste.

How will you handle plumbing and plumbing fixtures on my project? It’s helpful to have a stone vendor that also sells sinks and faucets so that all the elements can be coordinated to fit your needs, budget and design style. Once your fixtures have been selected, be sure to find out who will handle

the plumbing installation and hook-up. This person should be a plumbing expert or a licensed plumber.

Do you have a showroom I can visit? When selecting countertops it is always best to see materials in fully installed stage settings. This lets you see what a large expanse of the material will look like in context and can also provide you with additional ideas and inspiration. Majestic welcomes you to visit any of our three selection centers; Raleigh, Wilmington and Youngsville.

Will your company offer end-to-end services for my countertop project? Your supplier should provide individualized project consultation, guidance and design exper tise. They should also handle the fabrication and installation of your counter tops. If that is not the case, make sure any subcontractors working on your project are licensed and experienced. And, make sure your contractor pulls all the permits needed to complete your project.

What warranties and repair services do you offer? Warranties vary by product but should cover issues such as staining. Be sure you know what the warranty covers, for how long and what the additional cost is. If your stone gets chipped or scratched, your supplier should be able to provide on-site repair work, although this work will likely be outside the scope of your warranty.

07

Choosing the Right Countertop Material Today’s vast array of countertop material options opens up a world of possibilities for designing a space that is uniquely your own. From the elegance of marble and granite to the durability of quartz and cultured products, making the right choice may seem a bit daunting. But, if you take a moment to consider a few key points, you’ll be well on your way to finding the ideal product for your home.

Think about your lifestyle. Do you have a young, active household, or do you reside in quiet luxury? Countertops in active homes undergo a lot of wear and tear, so selecting a very durable surface should be a priority. However, if your home has lower traffic, a softer stone will likely wear very well with regular care. Whatever your lifestyle, there are infinite options that will suit your tastes and needs beautifully.

Consider care and maintenance. Given that countertops get constant use, care and maintenance is a major factor to consider. Some stone products are rather porous and need regular sealing, while others are prone to staining, so spills must be cleaned up immediately. You should also consider how the surfaces may change over time. Some will have the same appearance for generations, while others may need occasional polishing to remove scratches and patina. Understanding the level of maintenance required for various materials and balancing that with your lifestyle will help you narrow your options.

Look at the big picture. When planning a new space, it’s easy to focus on bigger investments like countertops, but you need to take all the elements into consideration. If you’re keeping your existing cabinets, how will they look with the countertop materials you’re considering? What about flooring, hardware and lighting? Stepping back and envisioning everything together will ensure your new space is a space you truly love.

Remember resale value. If you’re having any thoughts about selling your home, this is an important consideration. Countertops like granite are very desirable, so it may be worth it to invest a bit more as it will likely boost the value of your home. Design aesthetic is another factor to keep in mind. You may love that bright blue solid surface, but what about the next people who own your home?

Talk with the experts.

Granite Granite countertops have become one of the most sought-after features by homebuyers, and it’s no wonder. This natural stone is extremely strong and durable, and maintains its exquisite beauty even under a fair amount of abuse. Granite is comprised of quartz, silica, mica, obsidian, feldspar and other natural minerals, and it is this combination of crystals that gives it its enduring depth and fade-proof color variations. The silica in granite also acts as a natural anti-bacterial agent, making it a sanitary choice. Majestic directly imports granite and offers a broad range of exceptional choices through the Artisan Stone Collection and Stones of Distinction. All are responsibly sourced from around the world, including the United States, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Italy, Norway and Sri Lanka. And, the Artisan Stone Collection is the only granite backed by a residential lifetime warranty that you may opt to purchase. Granite offers exquisite patterns, depth, richness and an array of color choices, so it integrates beautifully with virtually any decor. Whether your selection has dramatic veining or a deeper, more uniform color, you can be sure that it will elevate your space and turn your surface into the centerpiece of your home.

Care Corner: Simple cleaning requires only soap and water, but Artisan branded cleaning products are recommended for products under warranty. Professional sealing is needed every ten years and occasional polishing may be required.

Quartz Majestic’s quartz surfaces are the ultimate combination of nature and technology. Because the majority of its composition is a natural mineral, quartz falls under the category of a stone surface. But quartz is technically a man-made product; 90-95% natural quartz crystals that are mixed with polyester resins and then formed under intense heat and pressure to create an extremely hard, durable surface. Since quartz is man-made, there is a lot of flexibility in creating specific colors and patterns during manufacturing, resulting in a beautiful, rich-looking end product that homeowners appreciate. The other quality they appreciate is its superior durability. Quartz is one of the hardest minerals on earth, and countertops fabricated from it are scratch resistant, stain resistant and virtually maintenance free. Quartz is also seamless and non-porous, making it a very hygienic option. The quartz brands carried by Majestic, including LG Viatera, are environmentally friendly and use sustainable materials and eco-friendly manufacturing, making it a choice that delivers good looks homeowners can feel good about.

Care Corner: Quartz never needs polishing or sealing and resists heat, stains, bacteria, mold and chemicals. Wipe away spills as soon as possible and clean with water or a mild cleanser. A Scotch Brite速 pad is recommended for stubborn spots.

15

Solid Surfaces Solid surfaces offer a stunning palette of over 100 colors, giving you design ideas without limits. From bold to subtle, the shades and patterns of solid surfaces let your space speak in exciting ways. Majestic fabricates the very popular LG Hi-Macs and DuPont Corian lines as well as Avonite, Staron, Gibralter, Hanex, Formica, Livingstone and Basix. Made from a specific formula of natural products, acrylic polymers and resins, colorants and particulates are added during the manufacturing process to achieve a vast array of colors, patterns and styles to suit virtually any taste. Solid surfaces are non-porous, which means they are extremely hygienic and do not ever require sealing or polishing. They also resist heat, bacteria and mildew, making them an excellent choice for kitchens and commercial spaces. From sleek countertops to three-dimensional installations, the unique properties of solid surfaces let you create your space with confidence for a result that is beautiful, enduring and all your own.

16

VOLCANIC with square eased edge

Care Corner: For regular cleaning, warm soapy water, ammonia-based household cleaners, or a dedicated countertop cleaner is recommended. Avoid window cleaners, as they can leave a waxy build-up that dulls the surface. Solid surfaces are heat resistant but always use trivets or pads when placing hot objects on any surface.

This modern kitchen features the color LUCCA with square edges and a shaped countertop end design.

17

Marble Marble has been used as a building material for thousands of years. Take a look at ancient structures the world over and it is obvious that this is a natural stone that can stand the test of time. Majestic offers a luxiurious line of exotic marble, quarried from around the world, to fit any dĂŠcor. Marble has many commercial applications and in homes it is most often used in kitchen and bathroom countertops, fireplaces, flooring, tubs and showers. With its dramatic veining and contrasting colors, it is easy to see why slab marble is destined to become the showpiece of your home. Its luxurious feel is unmatched and its elegant good looks are at home in both formal and more casual settings. Marble is a relatively soft stone, so it does require more maintenance and care than other natural stones, and is not recommended for high traffic areas. But with a little care, marble delivers stunning looks and durability that will last forever.

Care Corner: For general cleaning, warm water and mild soap is recommended. Etching may occur if marble comes in contact with wine or acids, so wipe up spills immediately. Marble needs regular sealing and may need occasional polishing.

19

Soapstone Soapstone has been used for years in fireplaces, wood stoves and ovens, but is now crossing over to countertops, sinks and outdoor applications, all with stunning results. Quarried like granite, soapstone is a heavy, mineral talc composition, has very high heat retention characteristics and is virtually indestructible. The one caveat to this product is that it is very heavy, so if you are installing new cabinets be sure they are built to support your countertops. The deep color and rich marbling of soapstone have made it a very popular design element in recent years. Untreated, soapstone delivers a rustic, early American look that also works surprisingly well in modern and contemporary interior designs. When waxed, the true beauty of soapstone really shines through with even more pronounced color variations and veining. If you’re looking for a little drama in your home from an unexpected source, soapstone may just be for you.

20

Care Corner: Clean soapstone surfaces with warm water and soap. Soapstone is susceptible to scratching and may develop a patina over time, although many believe that enriches its character and beauty.

21

Wood If you’re looking to bring elegance, warmth and sophistication to your home, wood countertops are a wonderful option. Majestic carries the Heritage Wood Collection; fine solid wood countertops expertly crafted to meet your specific design aesthetic. Wood is an excellent choice for countertops because of its distinctive, luminous graining and rich colors. With proper sealing, wood countertops are exceptionally stain resistant and food-safe. And, special features like integrated metal rods on which to set hot pots and pans create additional design appeal and durability. In addition to responsibly sourced clear heart options, Heritage Wood also offers recycled and reclaimed wood from original sources such as barns, factories, warehouses, textile mills and other commercial buildings. Reclaimed wood is an eco-friendly choice with unique characteristics and heritage that adds warmth to kitchen countertops, bathrooms and more. All species are available in either plank or end grain styles, providing even more design flexibility and turning the ordinary into something truly extraordinary.

Care Corner: Use warm water and mild soap for daily cleaning and a 15% vinegar solution for disinfecting. Do not use bleach or ammonia for cleaning and always use trivets or pads to protect the surface from heat. Wood countertops need periodic oiling as well as sealing every 4-6 years.

Cultured Stone There’s no question that natural slab marble is a showstopper, but if you live in a busy home, the upkeep of that relatively soft stone may be more than you want to take on. If you think choosing a durable surface for your bath vanity means sacrificing the beauty of marble or other natural stone, think again. Combining great looks and low maintenance, cultured stone products may just be your new best friend. The technology behind crafting cultured products has vastly improved over the years, resulting in rich veining and realistic, natural-looking patterns with depth and contrast that rivals quartz or natural marble and granite. But, cultured products offer superior durability and hassle-free maintenance at a significantly lower price point than natural stone and other solid surfaces. Today’s cultured products can be used to create a thoroughly modern look; the matte finish vanity top with undermount sink is a beautiful example. Vanities crafted from cultured products are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, Majestic delievers close to 100 every week. Because cultured products are cast, numerous configurations and edge treatments are available, from clean, contemporary lines to more ornate curves. Depending on your preference, the pieces can be polished to a high shine or honed for a matte finish. With so many ways to customize to fit your décor, not to mention easy maintenance and affordability, it’s easy to see why cultured products are turning heads. And, as one of the largest cultured products manufacturers in the nation, it’s easy to see why so many people turn to Majestic.

A Great Countertop Install: Tips from a Contractor You’ve done your research and selected the ideal countertop material for your project. You’ve hired a skilled, licensed team of professionals to handle every aspect of your renovation. Now it’s time to get your new countertops installed and bring your home improvement plans to life. Here are a few tips for a great installation, provided by a seasoned contractor who has seen it all.

Choose your sink and faucet first. It may seem backwards, but since countertops are fabricated around sinks and fixtures it’s one of the first decisions you should make. In fact, backordered or out of stock plumbing fixtures are the number one cause of project delays, so have these items in hand before you get started. Cabinetry may need to be modified to accommodate your sink choice and faucet placement, which whether centered on the sink or mounted on the wall, affects how your countertops are laid out.

Avoid the holidays. You may think that having a new kitchen for holiday cooking is a great idea. Unfortunately, a lot of homeowners think that, which is why Thanksgiving and Christmas are the busiest times of the year for installers. But with some thought and advance planning, you can have the kitchen of your dreams in plenty of time to show it off when family and friends gather for the holidays.

Take care with templating. This is the roadmap for your project so now is the time to be very detail oriented. There are two types of precision templating methods, and Majestic utilizes both depending on the job and customer preference. Physical templating involves laying paper, plastic or wood over the tops of cabinets to create a blueprint for the new countertops. With laser templating, paper “targets” are placed in key locations around the space and a laser measures from one target to another, providing measurements that are then uploaded to a program that generates 3D modeling of the new space. • Have all your appliances on site to ensure your countertops are fabricated with the highest quality control and the best possible fit. If you are ordering new appliances, make sure they have arrived before you schedule templating. • Be present for the templating process. This is the best way to make sure the finished product meets your expectations. • Most countertop materials have seams so now is the time to ask where they will be placed. Fabricators can usually work with your preferences if they know about them ahead of time.

28

Be present on installation day. At this stage there shouldn’t be any unknown details but it’s helpful for you to be available just in case questions arise. It’s also exciting to see your new countertops in your home for the first time, and this is a great opportunity to talk with the installer about care and maintenance. After the installation is complete, all that’s left to do is enjoy the product of all your research and planning.

Project Planner & Checklist Whether large or small, your renovation will likely have a lot of moving parts. We have created this step-by-step checklist to help you manage every step and detail involved in your countertop project. Of course, should you have any questions or concerns, the Majestic team is ready to assist you. Caring for Your Countertops Whether in the kitchen or bath, countertops get constant use so caring for them properly is the best way to protect your investment and maintain their good looks for as long as possible. Majestic carries and recommends the Artisan Group Firstline Care Products for natural and cultured stone products.

Firstline Clean & Restore The perfect daily cleaner for your countertops and surrounding surfaces. Leaves no residue and replenishes stone’s properties to ensure its longevity and beauty.

Firstline Shine Maintains your countertops and keeps them looking like new. A light silicone additive protects natural stone while enhancing its color.

Firstline Sealer Protects your countertop and seals out harmful bacteria. The solvent-based sealer penetrates grout and dense stone while allowing the surface to properly breathe. All Firstline products are 100% VOC compliant and biodegradable, quick drying, non-flammable and made in the USA.

In addition to using Firstline Care Products, here are some helpful countertop care guidelines to keep in mind.

Clean up spills immediately. Some liquids can dull or even etch countertop surfaces. Blot spills as quickly as possible so they don’t penetrate your counter’s surface.

Protect your countertops. Trivets protect your counters from heat, cutting boards prevent nicks and scratches (and protect your knives!) and coasters and placemats provide a barrier against food and drink spills.

Avoid abrasive, acidic and/or homemade cleaners. Many household cleaners are too abrasive or acidic for stone counters and can scratch, etch or dull the surface. Using only recommended cleaners such as Firstline ensures a longer life for your surface and, if you have purchased one, maintains the warranty on your countertops.

Don’t worry. With simple daily cleaning and the use of trivets, cutting boards and placemats, your countertops will maintain their original beauty for years to come.

FAUCETS When thinking about the faucet for your kitchen there are several options and features to keep in mind. Pullouts allow you to extend the reach of your faucet and most come with spray and pause features. Faucet handle styles also vary. Some homeowners want a single handle to control the water’s flow and temperature while others prefer separate handles for hot and cold water. You also need to decide if you would like your faucet integrated with the sink or mounted on the wall behind and above the sink. In addition to sink faucets, you may want to consider one of the many specialty models such as pot fillers, beverage faucets and prep sink faucets, all of which serve specific needs. Kohler offers a tremendous selection of quality faucets at every price point and in finishes and styles to enhance the design of any kitchen. Majestic will help you select a faucet that is compatible with your sink and then order it for you to ensure it arrives in a timely manner.

Bath & Shower Cultured Stone Showers & Tubs Cultured stone is found most often in the bathroom with good reason. This hardworking room needs a surface that can stand up to daily life, and cultured products are up to the challenge. A blend of stone particles and resins are combined with pigments and then poured into molds to create solid pieces in a variety of shapes and sizes. The molds are lined with a gel coating that creates a very hard surface, making the final product extremely durable, non-porous and resistant to stains, mildew, chips and etching. Cultured stone showers offer seamless design and deliver the wow factor of a natural stone slab at a fraction of the cost. From a small stall to a large walk-in with integrated benches, our showers can be fabricated in a wide range of configurations to meet your specific size and design requirements. Cultured stone offers a luxurious feel and texture that cannot be found with acrylic or fiberglass inserts. For those who like the look of tile, cultured showers can be molded in a tile pattern. But, unlike standard tile showers and floors, showers made from cultured stone are seam-free, which means you are freed from scrubbing, sealing and maintaining grout lines. Majestic’s cultured products division is one of the largest in the country, pouring nearly 60,000 pounds of cultured stone each week to make hundreds of vanity tops, tubs and shower components. Our highly skilled fabricators are ready to create customized products that offer the beauty you desire and the durability you demand.

34

Care Corner: Cultured products never need to be sealed and are easy to clean with non-abrasive products. Avoid contact with high heat, as it can discolor the product. Polishing may be needed to remove stains and patina.

Glass Doors & Enclosures When it comes to designing or renovating a bath, planning your shower is a very important consideration. Whether it’s a walk-in built for two, a bathtub and shower combination, or a corner stall right-sized for a small space, choosing the right doors and frames will make all the difference in the finished product.

There are numerous ways to customize your shower and make it a space that is all your own. If you select a framed door, you should know that metal frames come in a variety of edges, finishes and colors, from polished brass to brushed nickel, to complement plumbing fixtures, towel racks and other design elements in your space. Frameless doors offer clean sight lines, making them ideal for showing off intricate tile work or other shower surround details. Even the glass itself can make a statement. Clear glass provides a modern look, while textured glass offers visual interest and privacy. Whatever your preference, these are the options you will most likely find when you are shopping for shower doors:

BY-PASS – Available in framed or frameless options, two doors are mounted on tracks so that one can slide in front of the other. This option works for showers or shower/tub combinations. In shower/tub applications, by-pass doors work well in areas with limited access.

FRAMED HINGE – As the name states, this option frames the door on all four sides, giving it strength and durability. The frame also defines the lines of the shower, giving it a contemporary look.

FRAMELESS HINGE – This option offers a very sleek, clean look since the only visible metal parts are the hinges and door handle. Frameless hinge doors can be installed as a stand-alone or integrated with glass panels or other surrounds.

PIVOT – Because they are mounted a few inches in from the edge of the door, pivot doors are an excellent option when space is at a premium. They are also popular in designs using heavy glass because there is no need to notch the doors. Pivot doors come in framed and unframed styles.

HYBRID – Hybrid showers are designed by Majestic to offer a frameless look shower at an affordable price. Combining a 1/4” semi-frameless door with sturdy 3/8” side panels allows for hingeless design even on smaller fiberglass units where a frameless design will not work. With a positive closing magnetic latch and stock threshold, water will remain in the shower.

Regardless of the door style or configuration you choose, quality is key. Low-grade hinges can stick, squeak and even break. Inferior tracks can inhibit doors from gliding easily. Doors that do not precisely fit your space will leak, which can result in costly water damage repairs. And glass that is too thin or improperly tempered can chip, crack or shatter. Majestic Kitchen & Bath Creations only carries brands that are trusted by industry experts and homeowners alike. From economical options to high-end custom projects, our dedicated glass team offers design advice and professional installation services that will bring your dream bath to life.
