Whitewater Trip Ratings For every rafting river section, you will find a minimum age and adventure level tag. Age will give you a good idea of the skill required. Adventure level is more about the craft of choice and the whitewater compared to other rivers in the country.

Adventure Activity Trip Ratings For each adventure activity, you will find a minimum age and adventure level tag. While age gives you an idea of the skill level required, the adventure tag is more about the effort you will need to exert.

Are maximizing river features, surfing holes and roller-coaster wave-trains a priority? Up for the challenge of navigating a wild river with five or six of your closest friends (and one professional river guide)?

epic

Several decades ago, ACE pioneered the smaller 14’/6+ person raft to maximize everything this river has to offer. Roomier than its 16’/8+ person counterpart – the standard raft for all our competitors – our 14-footer has created it’s own legendary following. It’s light, it’s responsive, and that makes all the difference when navigating the New River Gorge.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS • Mix of easy class I/II rapids and intense class III/IV+ (V at high-water flows) rapids • Features the light and agile 14’/6+ person raft for an EPIC adventure • Professional guide in every raft - be ready to follow directions and paddle as a team • Great for mixed groups - adventurous first-timers welcome • Delicious flame-grilled riverside lunch accompanied by healthy snacks, salads and desserts

The CLASSIC trip on the Lower New is differentiated by the raft

exciting

– it’s 16 feet long and fits 8-9 people plus your guide (definitely need the guide). It’s the boat of choice by our competitors. Although we prefer the dynamics of the 14-footer (pg 4-5) and recommend it to most of our guests, there are times the 16-footer makes sense: 1. You’re looking to minimize expense – since this boat holds more people than the 14-footer, it’s less expensive for everyone 2. You want to stick together – again, bigger boat, more people, more togetherness 3. You have young paddlers in your group (as young as 11) or folks with diverse skill levels – with two extra feet of rubber and flotation, the 16-footer provides more stability and that’s a better experience for the more cautious rafter

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS • Mix of easy class I/II rapids and exciting class III/IV+ (V at high-water flows) rapids • Larger boat size (16’/8+ person) lends extra stability for a milder experience • Professional guide in every raft leads the way – paddlers must work together as a team • Great for groups on a budget or families that want to stick together in the same raft • The best lunch on the river – hot-grilled menu accompanied by a variety of fixings

age minimum

For the ultimate “wet & wild” adventure, the Gauley is our go-to river in the summer. Its combination of water clarity, remoteness and maze of boulders make it a unique whitewater opportunity -- more like an epic journey, a feat, a top 10 bucket list item.

epic

Only veteran guides with proper training run the Summer Gauley. It’s very special, but it’s not for everyone. You need to be mentally prepared for the challenge and in good shape. Yes, you may swim; and yes, you will have the time of your life.

RIVER HIGHLIGHTS • Deep-water canyon with magnificent beauty – waterfalls, shear cliff walls and giant boulders • One of rafting’s best kept secrets – in this remote wilderness canyon, you will rarely see another group or evidence of the world outside • With chutes and drops around every bend, this trip is intended for the adventurous - it’s busy, challenging and great fun all at the same time • Filling and refreshing deli lunch packed with healthy snacks, salads and tasty desserts

TRIP OPTIONS

RATES*

Summer Upper Gauley ALL DAY • Class II-IV+ (V) technical rapids with house-sized boulders and big drops • Season: April-August

Regular: $134 Peak: $159

For groups looking for an intermediate whitewater experience on the Gauley, jump on the Summer Lower Gauley – age min: 13 *Peak Dates: Saturdays 5/3/14-10/18/14 and 5/25, 7/4, 8/31

Whitewater Boat Options Releases from Summersville Dam, which are dependent on rain, determine what craft (raft of FunYak) we use to get down the Summer Gauley each day. Often that decision is not made until the morning of departure. Raft – Team paddling • About 50% of the time, we navigate the Summer Upper Gauley in a raft – and with 3 boat sizes, we’re covered for most anything Mother Nature sends our way • It offers a good balance between stability and maneuverability at higher water • Professional guide in every raft provides instruction FunYak • When the river is too low to navigate in a raft, we switch to one-person inflatable kayaks (occurs about 49% of the time) • Highly responsive, these boats come with thigh-straps for extra control • Guides lead the way and are positioned at more technical features to keep paddlers on track *There is a 1% chance the water will be running too high for the Upper Gauley, and we’ll have to move to the Lower Gauley.

The reputation of the Gauley River precedes itself. EXTREME Intimidating and overwhelming might describe it. Some may say it contains white-knuckle excitement and an adrenaline surge that will top any five-star roller coaster. Others will say it’s a “rite of passage” like no other. Truth be told, it’s the 7th single best day of whitewater on the planet, and with ACE as your guide, we believe it jumps up even a few more notches above our competitors. There’s rafting on the Gauley, and there’s rafting with ACE on the Gauley. Huge difference. For starters, our recommended boat of choice on the Gauley is the 14-foot raft. The other guys? 16-footers. With our smaller, more nimble boats, you experience a more responsive ride, perfect for those tight turns and narrow passages on the Gauley. Big hits get even bigger. Hot grilled lunch? Every trip. From chicken and flame-grilled burgers to tuna steaks and all kinds of sides, you’ll leave lunch satisfied and ready to tackle more whitewater. Even at the end of your Gauley journey, you’ll experience the ACE advantage. Each takeout – Upper or Lower Gauley -- is privately owned by us making it a breeze to load up and kickback for the bus ride back to camp. Sugar Creek, our Lower Gauley take out, shaves off 3 miles of flat water (and an hour of paddling) at the end of your day. What does that mean for you? More time to celebrate.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS • The ultimate one or two-day adventure with technically challenging and physically demanding rapids from class III-V+ • ACE’s exclusive Gauley put-ins and take-outs just for our guests • Rafters must be prepared to paddle in unison and respond quickly to guide instructions – also be prepared to swim aggressively • Best hot-grilled lunch on the river - hands down • Upper Gauley - prior whitewater rafting experience highly recommended • Lower Gauley - ideal for adventurous first-timers and high-energy groups

2014 GAULEY RAFTING DATES Most rivers hit their peak in the spring, but not this river. When the Summersville Lake is lowered to prepare for winter rain and snow, we harness that water into 23 days of world-class whitewater. That’s Gauley Season!

Flying through the air with the greatest of ease has never been so much fun! ACE’s Zip Line Tour is the only North American zip line perched on the rim of a 1,000-foot canyon. And it’s the New River Gorge, “The Grand Canyon of the East”.

Easy

Soar through the forest on zip lines that span over 800 feet and are suspended up to ten stories above the forest floor. And best of all, you can share the experience with your best friend, significant other or favorite relative. Yes, this tour features dual zip lines with side-by-side, fun-filled action. Keep in mind, anytime of year is a good time to zip. Spring is known for spectacular views of the landscape. Summer brings a dense canopy of trees and forested tunnels. Fall in the mountains is a leaf-peepers paradise as far as the eye can see. And with southern facing cliffs, Winter may descend upon these mountains, but the sun still heats up the rock cliffline for a refreshing flight path. The seasons may change but the adrenaline rush remains the same year-round.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS • Official Zip Line World Record Holder – in 2012, ACE beat the record for the most number of people down a zip wire in one hour • Network of nine zip lines and two suspended bridges spanning over one mile of cliffline • 55-foot, dual-deck viewing tower with spiral staircase links the 250-foot swinging bridge to our most popular zip, The Plunge • Scenic overlooks and sight-seeing perches at all launch points and dismount platforms – many with views of the New River Gorge 800 feet below • Gravity braking system for effortless, hands-free zipping • Dual lines on all zips for side-by-side zipping • Top Speed: more than 40 miles per hour • Longest Zip: 800 feet • Highest Zip: 100 feet above the ground

Rock climbing is about walking on your fingers and toes in a vertical world. Peering up at an 80-foot wall of sandstone, the thought of hoisting yourself onto the rock may seem a bit foreign. Once you make that first move, though, it’s about getting your balance and shifting your weight to find just the right holds that make sense. What goes up, must come down. That’s rappelling. As you prepare to lower yourself over the edge of the cliff, the first drop gives a nice little tug on the body. But once your legs are in position and your braking hand is comfortably wrapped around your hip, it’s a smooth ride back to the bottom.

Our program follows a philosophy of “challenge by choice” that empowers participants to set personal goals and build upon their skills, physical abilities and psychological or emotional readiness. As facilitators, we hope that every time a participant tries an activity, he or she will take one step further, eventually completing the challenge. It is this commitment to each person in your group that has distinguished our program from other similar efforts.

You’ll appreciate the unique setting and privacy of each cabin - not to mention the comfy beds for slumbering and bubbling hot tub to melt away any bit of stress that tagged along on the car ride here.

Perfect for family reunions or small business gatherings, the main living space is a comfortable three-bedroom with full kitchen, two baths and living room. The downstairs includes two more bedrooms, a full bath and meeting/ gathering area. With ample space and privacy, this cabin is sure to keep everyone in your group on speaking terms.

THREE-BEDROOM LODGES

Three-Bedroom Aspen

TWO-BEDROOM CABINS

Two-Bedroom Chalet

What’s the best thing about these cabins? They’re just the right size for four to six people. And if you’re a larger group, no problem. Easy access and lots of privacy – that’s the best of both worlds.

ONE-BEDROOM CABINS

One-Bedroom Cozy Park

As the name suggests, these cabins are best suited for couples and singles. They are cozy, and if you bring more than two people, someone’s getting the pull-out couch. But since we have twenty-four of these units, it’s possible everyone in your group can have their own cabin… and hot tub. Now that’s a vacation!

Dessert includes an assortment of house-prepared confections. In the morning, the buffet serves eggs, prepared just the way you like them, pancakes or French toast, apple-smoked bacon, sausage, home-fried potatoes, pastries, fresh fruit and much more.
