The challenges facing the agricultural sector are becoming increasingly bigger. And when times are tough, only one thing helps: a new way of thinking. Envisaging alternative options and making smart decisions.

#Innovation

Innovative technology to support life most efficiently PUDAMA is the precise spot fertiliser application by maintaining 100% yield with at least 25% less starter fertiliser. It is all about saving fertiliser, environmental care by reducing resources used, including energy for fertiliser production, while reducing farm production costs and securing food production.

Farmer’s challenges The costs for fertiliser have risen exponentially and resources are limited. Still, healthy plant growth is the basis for our customers’ yield and profit, as well as for a safe food production. At the same time, the protection of the environment has become a key topic of today’s agriculture. Due to the risk of contaminated groundwater and local over-fertilisation with organic fertilisers, recent European regulations, rules and policies have defined new standards and reduced the kinds of components allowed. Moreover, society’s acceptance for fertiliser and crop care products has decreased.

We care with utmost precision and efficiency Apply fertiliser more precisely, efficiently at the right time and only where the plant can reach it and only as much as needed. Synchronised with the seed application at high speeds, a cloud of fertiliser is placed under each maize corn to give young plants the best start conditions for optimum root development, rapid growth and good plant health. Every seed has an optimal fertiliser depot at its disposal, no fertiliser is wasted or washed out.

PUDAMA system The PUDAMA system ensures the reduction of at least 25% of fertiliser compared with the continuous application of fertiliser - whilst maintaining 100% yield. The PUDAMA system has been incorporated in the PP range with SX high speed rows, offering reliability by high expertise in precision drills and proven machinery – proven by independent results from Universities. The start Maize is a hungry crop that can require fertiliser application before, during and after planting. In some countries it is common to give the seeds a so-called starter fertiliser. It is usually applied in the form of a continuous band under the maize seed. Researchers were concerned about the gap between the seeds: part of the fertiliser band was not being taken up by the seeds and plants. In other words, fertiliser was being wasted and it ended up polluting the groundwater. This led to a unique development: Kubota has developed a system that synchronises the fertiliser and seed application more precisely, so that the growing plant reaches and benefits from all the nutrients supplied. Better roots lead to better crop growth and yield. A three-year study (Bouten et al., 2020) with field trials under a variety of conditions shows that the precise application of starter fertiliser increases the efficiency. Thus allows the reduction of starter fertiliser of at least 25% without any loss in yield which significantly reduces nitrate and phosphate discharge into water systems.

The roots start growing in direction of the fertiliser - no waste of energy, still strong plants. The exact quantity of fertiliser applied at the right time ensures plant health and even crop development. 5

#Precision

Superiorly synchronised Fertilisation ensures the supply of nutrients to the crop, but over-fertilisation often has undesirable effects on the environment and the ecosystem of the land. Conventional band application places a continuous band of fertiliser also between the plants where the roots cannot reach it. This is the amount simply wasted and washed out.

Precision placement With PUDAMA the amount and location of the fertiliser is precisely defined. The nutrients are only deposited where the roots of the grain can reach it and only as much as needed. Synchronised with the seed application at high speeds, a spot of starter fertiliser as a deposit is placed under each maize corn during maize seeding.

Continuous band application

Every seed has an optimal fertiliser depot at its disposal. The full amount of fertiliser is absorbed by the plants. In this way, loss and leaching is avoided and the production of fertiliser raw materials can also be reduced.

High speed sowing row SX with PUDAMA system

Precise metering and synchronised deposit placement • A defined fertiliser depot is produced and deposited synchronised to the driving speed and seed distance in the furrow.

A brush in the falling channel collects the fertiliser. In a specific sequence aligned with the opto-electronic sensor, an on-board compressor generates an air stream that places the fertiliser 5cm below and next to each seed, so exactly in the root zone where the fertiliser is needed.

The PUDAMA system has been incorporated in the PP range with SX high speed rows. A sensor connection between the fertiliser coulter and seeding heart synchronises the seed and fertiliser application. A working speed of up to 12kph with the PP SX PUDAMA means a frequency of up to 25 fertiliser spots per second.

#Efficiency

100% yield with at least 25% less starter fertiliser The PUDAMA system ensures the reduction of at least 25% of starter fertiliser compared with the continuous application of fertiliser - whilst maintaining 100% yield. The results With technology such as the Kubota PP1601TF SX PUDAMA precision drill, farmers can save a lot by reducing fertiliser, transport and work costs. For example, if a farmer with 300ha of maize uses 150kg/ha DAP 18-46 in the conventional way, he would save 37.5kg/ha of fertiliser with the PUDAMA system. This means a saving of 5,625€* for 300ha. Root growth starts directly in the direction of the starter fertiliser. No energy is wasted. Strong plants, especially in the youth stadium, with strong roots ensure that the plant is more resistant even under extreme conditions such as prolonged drought. The PUDAMA system has been shown to achieve the same yield as a traditional continuous band of fertiliser – with 25% less starter fertiliser. Unused nitrogen and phosphates are saved and do not washed out into the environment. As well as saving on the farm production cost of fertiliser, farmers would save time and money on transport and handling. (*Source: index mundi: Price DAP 500€/t May 2023)

PUDAMA Spot starter fertiliser application during sowing: 100% yield with at least 25% less starter fertiliser

Substainability Saving fertiliser protects the environment by reducing resource use, including energy for fertiliser production. In addition, it significantly reduces nitrate and phosphate discharge into water systems and the impact on soil, water, air and life.

Availability The Kubota PP1601TF SX with PUDAMA will be available for season 2024 as seriesproduction. The PUDAMA system will also be available for other PP models in future.

Principle Fertiliser is collected on a brush and shot by an air stream which is generated with an onboard compresser into the soil. A working speed of up to 12kph with the PP1601TF SX PUDAMA means a frequency of up to 25 fertiliser spots per second.

Fertiliser Coulter The parallelogram guided fertiliser coulter keeps a constant application depth and prevents dams. It is infinity adjustable. The one disc design reduces soil movement and enhances an easy penetration.
