MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK AT PITTSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK (MSW) The professional program leading to the MSW degree prepares graduates for advanced clinical social work practice with individuals, families and groups. Classes are typically taught at partnership sites in a blended format. The blended format includes some on-campus Saturday classes, Saturday video conferences, and online learning activities.
PITTSBURG PARTNERSHIP SITE Pittsburg - When enrollment is adequate, the one year Advanced Standing and the two year Traditional plans of Study are offered every year. The Advanced Standing is taught in the blended format with on-campus classes held at Pittsburg State University on Saturdays. The Traditional plan of study first year is taught in the traditional in-person, on-campus format* and the second year is taught in the blended format with on-campus classes held at Pittsburg State University on Saturdays. *Pittsburg Partnership Site Traditional plan of study first year curriculum is offered through Pittsburg State University.
1 & 2 YEAR PLANS OF STUDY The one year Advanced Standing plan of study requires a bachelor’s of social work degree to apply. • 38 credit hours as follows, • 6 credit hours of course content during the summer • 18 credit hours of course content during fall & spring • 14 credit hours of field practicum during the fall & spring The two year Traditional plan of study requires a bachelor’s degree, of any major other than social work, from an accredited university or college to apply. • 64 credit hours as follows, • 36 credit hours of course content during the two years • 28 credit hours of field practicum during the two years
WHAT IS FIELD PRACTICUM? The MSW curriculum requires field education, or internship, with practicum placements in agencies throughout Kansas and Missouri. The Field Education Office works closely with students and agencies to secure an enriching field practicum experience. Every effort is made to locate a field placement within a one hour drive from the student’s home.
