The Center for Research on Aging and Disability Options (CRADO) has pioneered the strengths-based approach in work with older adults. We are leaders in applied research to improve social service practice and policy with older adults. Collaboration with older adults, community, and state partners ensures that research findings result in policy change and the implementation of empirically-based interventions. Our office also prepares tomorrow's scholars and practitioners in gerontological social work. We provide strengths-based gerontological resources, training, and unique educational opportunities that help develop faculty and students' knowledge and skills in working with older adults. Faculty and staff work with state agencies such as the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, and federal agencies as well as with a variety of other public and private service organizations and foundations, to provide research, training and technical support. Collaboration with older adults, people with disabilities, and community and state partners ensures that research findings result in policy change and the implementation of empirically-based interventions. The CRADO research team has published articles in The Gerontologist, Social Work in Health Care, Journal of Disability Policy Studies, Journal of Health Care Finance, and several other influential peer-reviewed journals. The awardwinning faculty and staff of CRADO regularly provide opportunities for doctoral students to be integrally involved in cutting-edge research.

Exploring COVID's Care & Safety Practices During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Home-Based Long term Services & Supports Sponsored by the US Department of Health & Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality, this R01 grant award is allowing the CRADO team to study the sustainability of the home care workforce in the age of COVID-19. Research Questions: 1. How did the system respond to meet the long-term services & supports needs of consumers of home & community-based services during the pandemic? In particular, how were COVID-19 safety practices identified, negotiated, implemented, and managed across team members & consumers in private home settings? 2. How are external and structural factors and worker and consumer attitudes, beliefs & behaviors related to COVID-19 and care processes? 3. How did adaptations to COVID-19 impact the degree to which consumer care needs were met; care satisfaction, and consumer, caregiver &worker well-being? The Center for LGBTQ+ Research & Advocacy debuted in summer 2021, kicking off with the 11th Annual LGBTQ Research Symposium, which moved from the University of Illinois to the University of Kansas. A virtual event for the first time, this symposium builds on the important traditions established at the University of Illinois, providing researchers an opportunity to present their work, discuss challenges and opportunities, and network with others conducting LGBTQ+ research across disciplines. Our theme recognizes and honors the historical contributions to LGBTQ+ research while identifying innovative and creative ways to move this research forward. The virtual format of the 2021 symposium presents unique and creative opportunities to enhance the accessibility of the symposium and integrate digital humanities ideas and concepts. Theme: Looking Back, Moving Forward: Queerness, Accessibility & Intersectionality
