THE WOW FACTOR AT KULTUREN Eva Klang Eriksson "Everyone wants to understand painting. Why not try to understand the songs of a bird? Why does one lave the night, flowers, everything around one, without trying to understand them?" (Pablo Picasso 1935) It is necessary to create, according to Picasso. This necessity can possibly be understood and explained. The latest research in the field of education talks a great deal about how art, culrure and creativity are the key to successful learning. The core of the argument is the "wow factor", an expression coined by a teacher who described the fantastic sense of "wow" when children are engrossed in the work of creating something of their own. Research shows that the more arts subjects are taught in school, the greater is the chance, for example, that dialogue will arise across generation barders; children coming home from school often cell of their experiences of dance, music, drama, or a visit to a museum. Other effects, according to research, are increased self-confidence, better social cohesion and an ability to cooperate. Thus social
