OUR AREA

Often overlooked, the North East of England is a brilliant and diverse place to live, with a hospitable and welcoming approach to life. We have some of the most beautiful landscape in the country on our doorstep. Our rugged coastline is blessed with dramatic beaches and quaint seaside towns. If you live in one of the cities, you can be out in the wilderness or at the seaside in less than half an hour. For the more adventurous, there are plenty of opportunities for mountain biking, climbing and pot holing. One of the best things about living in our area is how easy it is to access other places. You can travel anywhere in the region in less than two hours, plus we have the Lake District and Scotland on our doorstep. London is only two hours away by train. When they think of the North East, most people picture mining, steel and football. But there are plenty of museums and galleries here with exhibitions to rival those in other areas. Plus, there are hundreds of historical sites and the area is awash with castles due to its long and fraught history. We have given the world an array of culinary delights including: Yorkshire Pudding, The Fat Rascal, Yorkshire Tea and Wensleydale Cheese. Our area has produced sporting greats in cricket, football, rugby and athletics, including a number of Olympians.

Following the successful visit of the Tour de France in 2014, we now also play host to the epic annual Tour De Yorkshire Cycling event! For foodies, there are numerous food festivals and gourmet pubs and restaurants across the area and for those who enjoy a more genteel approach to their leisure time, there are numerous award winning Spa venues in our area. There are numerous active Young Farmers Clubs in the area to join, along with rugby, hockey and cricket clubs! We have agricultural shows coming out of our ears, from local village events through to The Great Yorkshire Show. The nightlife is legendary. From the party capital of the North; Newcastle down to the elegant University Town of York and it’s popular horse racing festivals, through to the myriad of country pubs, there really is an option for all tastes and budgets. One of the best bits is affordability. If you are looking to rent or buy in our area, you will find you get more bricks and mortar for your pound than in many other areas. There are houses to rent and buy to suit all tastes and budgets. In 2019 the average house price in the South East of England was £320,454 whereas in the North East it was £127,466. For those looking to rent, an average rent would be £959 per calendar month in the South East and £529 in the North East (based on prices July 2019).
