As we approach the final week of this first half-term of the new academic year, I would like to take time to reflect on the past 7 weeks, and look forward to what is to come when we return after half-term. The start to the academic year has been dominated by the issue of RAAC and the impact it has had on our school community. We know the negative impact of children not being in school, directly in front of their teachers. Our staff have felt this as well, and although they have done incredible work to ensure high quality online learning, they too are desperate for all students to return. At the beginning of this week we were delighted to open phase 1 of the new building - which includes 9 new classrooms, an area for sixth form students to study independently and a new toilet block. We are also in the process of adding extra covered seating for our students on the deck of the new building. Phases 2 and 3 are still on schedule to be completed next week, meaning that we will be able to welcome every student back into school on Monday 30th October at 8.30am. A reminder that next Friday is an INSET day so the last day of the half-term for students is Thursday 19th October, and that we return, as already mentioned, on Monday 30th October. In the last bulletin I talked about our Open Morning Season where we opened our doors to prospective Year 6 students and their families. Thank you to all of our wonderful students who contributed so well to these, and of course our staff who planned meticulously to ensure that we gave our visitors a taste of what life is like at Roding Valley. Well over a thousand people visited our school this year which is truly remarkable, and further supports our vision to become the school of choice in our community.
