RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration Respect Endeavour Week ending: Friday 23rd March 2018 “Our vision is to be the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be.”

Message from the Head of School It has been really nice to feel the sunshine this week, even if only sporadically. Hopefully, with the arrival of british summer time; this weekend we can look forward to some warmer times. However, more snow is forecast for Easter! Due to the changing weather we have at times been more relaxed around school footwear but next week we will be doing uniform checks in assemblies and please ensure that you use the forthcoming Easter holiday to replace uniform or shoes as appropriate. The uniform expectations are included in this bulletin on page 17; can I reiterate black trainers are not acceptable unless worn for specific medical purposes, all jumpers must be school issue and skirts must be worn below the knee. The students’ appearance in our community is very important to the good standing of the school and our uniform is now of a very high standard which I intend to maintain. I thank you for your support in advance, our consistent expectation benefits everyone. As usual the school will be running a full programme of support for our GCSE/ A level students during the Easter holidays. I am always so grateful for the excellent and committed staff, who are always prepared to come and support the students at this crucial time. Not all schools offer such a programme and many students find the structure offered invaluable in preparing for their exams and ultimate success. The programme has been emailed to parents and students but is included in this bulletin on page 10. Please contact Mr Vermaak if you have any concerns: mvermaak@rodingvalley.net The majority of sessions are targeted at certain students identified as needing additional support or challenge. This is a period of revision at all levels in the school and revision guides and tips have been emailed to support both parents and students. Please also look on our website in our Teaching and Learning Section under GCSE Revision Resources. I would like to thank Miss Hanlon for organising the Year 10 “Speak out Challenge” Workshop this week, this being the first stage in a national competition. The students were fantastic and I look forward to seeing them present in assemblies.
