RVHS Parent Bulletin Aspiration Respect

Endeavour

Week ending: Friday 20th October 2017 “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere”. Chinese Proverb

Message from the Executive Headteacher. It has been very busy half term at RVHS and I have been very impressed with the work that has gone on around the school. In lessons, our focus has been on ensuring that there is high quality teaching and learning with staff working with our new ‘ACED’ approach in lessons: Assessment, Creativity, Engagement and Differentiation being the core elements of every successful lesson. The new positive attitude for learning programme has embedded itself very well and it is really great to see the very high number of students achieving so many achievement points. Outside of lessons, there has been a real focus on our extra-curricular and enrichment provision and, once again, it is great to see so many students attending clubs at lunchtime and after school. Our new build is progressing on time and it will not be very long before the actual building starts to take shape. The building will be open next September and will help provide additional capacity to the school as numbers rise and our Sixth Form grows. Our new AstroTurf also opened on time recently and is being used extensively in lessons, lunchtimes and after school. Our Open Mornings and Open Evening saw large numbers of prospective parents come to the school and the feedback we received was extremely positive. As well as the visitors to the site, it was great to see so many of our students help out either as tour guides or in subject areas on the Open Evening and they were outstanding ambassadors for the school. We were also pleased that our Progress 8 score following the summer examinations is above the national average. Progress 8 is the new measure of school accountability and a positive score is indicative of the hard work and determination shown by our students and staff in preparing for their examinations. As well as our new approach to teaching and learning, we have also launched Show My Homework this half term. Looking at the statistics on usage, it is pleasing to note how widely it is being used and hopefully parents are finding it easier to keep up to speed with what your children are doing for homework. We will also be launching our reporting system after half term and, again, this should be easier for parents to interpret how well your child is doing. Both of these changes were brought about as a result of feedback from parents at our Parents Forum and I would encourage all parents to attend if possible. The next meeting takes place on Monday 4th December.
