Process

Throughout this studio I was challenged to think abstractly about space and how it can be formed and occupied. The first assignment allowed me look more closely at typical objects in order to pay more attention to detail and the process of design. When it came to the second assignment, it helped to use my skills to see how different commands can be used to create a complex space. This was different from the first assignment as I needed to think less directly. Using different materials and methods challenged me to see how they would affect the design of my cubes. This came into effect when I was challenged to construct each cube. This pointed out which design choices were more effective than others. The four iterations allowed me to utilize and understand the construction of my design for the final site. When creating this form I wanted to use a cube that I could deconstruct to emphasis its different elements. My main goal when designing this space was how to stretch my original cube and connect different sized pieces. The circulation was a large part of my design as it allowed me to create a structure that could be accessed in different ways. The stairs on the bottom floor not only acted as a connect to the second level but allow created seating for a more functional and social area. The overall design tested how an individual could perceive the surroundings to have complex experiences with scale and space.
