New technology, materials and morphology
Architectural progress in the 19th and 20th centuries is certainly strongly infl uenced by the development of new materials, technology and construction systems. The period between the World Wars, after World Wars and its upcoming dynamic brought next signifi cant changes, which infl uenced and altered architecture. Avant-garde prepared suitable conditions, as there was an interconnection of construction, aesthetics, and function. Interesting new constructions were made out of plastic materials and aluminium. While for constructions stressed in pressure dominates convex form thin concrete shells, where fi gurate works of Felix Candella and Luigi Nervi, for structures with traction forces, leads hanging tent-like constructions. Pneumatical and overpressure structures found their place as well.
