You’ve created the outdoor setting of your dreams (yay!) So, what next? Whilst your outdoor furniture is crafted with the highest quality, weatherproof materials – you still need to protect your investment from the harsh kiwi elements. Here’s a few of our top tips:
Best suited for: Outdoor areas protected from long exposure to sun. Using umbrellas or sun-shades is an easy way to provide shade for yourself and the furniture.
Before first use: It is recommended to use Goldencare Wicker Protector to assist in extending the UV protection to the PE resin wicker, this can be purchased at Target Furniture instore or online.
After each use: To prolong the life of the wicker setting, it is recommended to bring cushions inside or store in a cushion box, and use a furniture cover to protect the wicker from the harsh sun.
To clean wicker furniture:
1. Remove all cushions
2. Use a garden hose (do not use a pressure washer) to completely wash down furniture
3. Mix together a cleaning solution use a mild soap and lukewarm water
4. Use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the furniture
5. Wash again with water and leave to dry outside
Best suited for: Sun soaked decks and patios.
Before first use: To protect teak wood and to maintain the natural golden patina it is recommended to use Goldencare Teak Protector before using the product and
periodically to maintain the finish. To add a level of moisture and dirt protection we recommend Goldencare Teak Shield. This can be applied over the Goldencare Teak Protector. Please see instructions for further information. If no initial protection is applied, teak will gradually change colour to a silver grey, this is normal and is not a fault with the timber. If you wish to bring the original golden colour back, using Goldencare Teak Cleaner will help with this.
To clean teak furniture:
1. Remove all cushions
2. Use a garden hose to completely wash down furniture
3. Mix together a cleaning solution such as mild soap and lukewarm water
4. Use a soft bristle brush to gently clean
5. Wash it down again using water until all the soap is gone
6. Air dry outside
7. Once dry, use Goldencare Teak Protector to assist in maintaining the finish.
Best suited for: Outdoor areas protected from long exposure to sun. Using umbrellas or sun-shades is an easy way to provide shade for yourself and the furniture. When not in use store away from direct sunlight.
To clean resin furniture:
1. Remove any cushions
2. Use a garden hose to completely wash down chairs
3. Mix together a cleaning solution such as mild soap and lukewarm water
4. Use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the furniture
5. Wash again with water and leave to dry outside
Best suited for: Sun soaked decks and patios. Can be used at holiday homes or baches where low maintenance is important.
To clean aluminium furniture:
1. Remove all cushions from outdoor furniture
2. Use a garden hose (do not use a pressure washer) to completely wash down furniture
3. Mix together a cleaning solution such as mild soap and lukewarm water
4. Use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the furniture
5. Wash again with water and leave to dry outside
Best suited for: Outdoor areas protected from long exposure to sun. Using umbrellas or sun-shades is an easy way to provide shade for yourself and the furniture.
Before first use: To prolong the surface of GRC / engineered stone tops it is recommended to apply Goldencare Stone Protector, this assists with
prolonging the surface finish and assists with stain protection.
After each use: To prolong the life of the setting, use a furniture cover to protect the setting from the harsh sun. Wipe down tables & periodically treat with Goldencare Stone Cleaner as a specialist stone cleaner to enhance dirt & moisture resistance.
To clean GRC / engineered stone:
1. Remove all cushions from outdoor furniture
2. Use a soft damp cloth to wipe down
3. Mop any spills up immediately to avoid staining the surface as it is absorbent
4. Use Goldencare Stone Protector to preserve the colour and Goldencare Stone Cleaner to prolong the colour/ life of your setting
5. Do not use acid cleaners or pressure washers as they will damage the surface of the product
6. Air dry outside
Best suited for: Outdoor areas protected from long exposure to sun. Using umbrellas or sun-shades is an easy way to provide shade for yourself and the furniture.
Before first use: To prolong the life of hardwood furniture it is recommended to apply Goldencare Teak and Hardwood protector, this is available from Target Furniture instore or online.
Timber is a natural material. Small checking cracks in the surface as the timber expands and contracts in varying weather conditions is considered normal and not a fault.
Now and then: Regular oiling using Goldencare Teak/Hardwood Protector will help ensure the hardwood is best protected from the harsh outdoor environment. Re-tighten hardware as needed.
To clean hardwood furniture:
1. Remove all cushions
2. Use a garden hose (do not use a pressure washer) to completely wash down furniture
3. Mix together a cleaning solution such as mild soap and lukewarm water.
4. Use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the furniture
5. Wash it down again using water until all the soap is gone
6. Wash again with water and leave to dry outside
If space is available, it’s ideal to move your furniture into a sheltered location such as your garage. If this isn’t practical, consolidate pieces into the smallest possible space, remove any cushions to store indoors or use a cushion box, and cover the setting with a high quality outdoor cover.
