Alsterån Natural population of Trout FÖRENINGEN FISKE & FRITID (The Fishing
& Recreation Association) leases a stretch of the Alsterån River between the Hornsjö power station and the Duveström power works. The stretch offers a varied habitat. BESIDES THE COMMONLY occurring spe-
cies such as perch, pike, eel, brown trout and whitefish, “ready to catch” fish are annually seeded – usually rainbow trout – into the Sandbäckhult portion of the river. One part of the river is reserved for fly fishing only. That entire stretch is turbulent and fast-flowing and therefore particularly suitable for fly fishing. Here, there’s also a natural population of brown trout. There are however other fastflowing parts of the river, with strong currents, at Boxfors, Karlsfors, Sandbäckshult and Rosenström. There are natural populations of trout in these streams, too.
DIRECTIONS To get to Sandbäckhult, follow route 34 in a north-westerly direction from Blomstermåla. After passing the railway crossing just north of Blomstermåla you take the second road to the left. After that, once again you take the second road to the left and that leads you to the Sandbäckhult village. From here you can choose from a number of different paths down to various fishing spots along the river.
FOR THOSE INTERESTED in fly fishing the
stretch at Näset is particularly suitable, as mentioned above. It features a flat rock from which you have a great view across the river, and which has been fitted out with benches, tables and a fireplace. There is also access to shelters. There are paths and trails along the river, which enable you to move along it comfortably. When you come to visit, it might be a good idea to start off from the double bridges in the Sandbäckhult area.
