Snow Day

Break out the scarves and mittens because the forecast calls for SNOW! Plan on joining your friends and neighbors for cookies, cocoa and some ice cold fun at the annual Green Trails Snow Day. January 12, 2013 - 10 am to 12 pm - Desert Ivy Park

Our current chair will be stepping down and we are in need of someone to step up! We have 4 events a year and without a chair, the events would not take place. If you are interested in being chair for community events, please contact Kristie Poldervaart at or 281-647-9483.

Happy Holidays! December 2012

If you use our neighborhood pools, we need you! We are in need of a pool monitor for Park Cypress. This is an easy way to volunteer. You simply observe 2 or 3 times a month [during swim season], each item on the check list, which is provided to you and report any issues to the Pool Chair. If you are interested in this volunteer position, please contact Kristie Poldervaart at or 281-647-9483.

Treitsch Park Expands

Treitsch Park has grown! As of October 9, 2012, Harris County Parks and Recreation will be maintaining the east side of the bayou along the sidewalk between Kingsland and the current Treitsch Park boundary. Harris County Flood Control will continue to maintain the slopes and west side of the channel. Plans are underway for planting additional trees. We thank Commissioner Radack for his support in converting a drainage ditch and basin into an amenity for our neighborhood, as well as for sidewalk projects the County has partnered on.

Security Tips

If you see something suspicious, call the constable at 281-463-6666. Turning on exterior lights makes it easier for the constable or alert neighbors to see your home and to also see what is going on outside it. Park your cars in your driveway and lock them. Keep doors and windows locked (including garages) and alarms set. Trim shrubs so windows are visible. If you are going to be out of town, turn in a Vacation Watch Form. Use timers on lights. See our website for other tips.

To reserve a park pavilion, please contact Mark Holbrook (Parks Chair) at and fill out the release form and fax it to Crest at 281-579-7062.

If the lesson is to be a regularly set day and time, please contact the tennis committee for approval and court time can be blocked off for you at the Park Cypress court. The courts are occupied for tennis league play on Monday and Wednesday mornings and no lessons can be given during league play. Residents ONLY may reserve court times. A Green Trails resident who is a USPTA certified tennis pro is available for private or semi-private lessons at our courts for residents only. Anyone, including tennis pros, wanting to reserve REGULAR court time in advance for lessons or leagues, must contact the tennis committee through Elaine Kearney at 281-492-6848. To reserve court time, the sign-up bulletin board is located inside the tennis courts. Residents may sign up no sooner than 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period by writing their last name on 3 blocks of the sign-up sheet. (Each block represents 30 minutes.) This is to allow maximum court usage for all residents during prime times (mornings and evenings). Should you sign up prior to 48 hours in advance or for longer than 1 1/2 hours, your name will be subject to removal by a committee member. (Of course, you can walk on and play as long as you like if the courts are not previously reserved.) New residents needing tennis/pool access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access cards are for residents only. Card access is the only way to insure our courts are only being used and cared for by our residents and their guests, please do not open the gates for anyone not having a card. Do not loan out your card. The wheelchair access gate has been tampered with and will be locked to prevent use by non-residents. Residents needing wheelchair access to the tennis courts, please contact the tennis committee and we will be happy to provide you with a key. The lights at the Gerry Ayers courts are numbered. Please note the number of the light before calling to have it repaired. Any maintenance problems at the courts can be reported to Brigitte Hobbesland, 713-591-0880. The tennis court lights are on a timer, they should come on at dusk and turn off by 10:30 pm. PARENTS: Tweens and teens have been observed damaging our tennis courts and the equipment held within. Your yearly maintenance fees pay for this vandalism directly. Our goal is to keep these costs down while maintaining the nice amenities in our neighborhood for all residents. Please let your children know if they are observed abusing our courts and/or their equipment, the Constable will be called to escort them home. Anyone can report vandalism directly to the Constable at 281-463-6666, in the effort to keep our neighborhood’s common areas in good condition. Please note: the tennis courts are for tennis ONLY. Please let your children know the courts are not for soccer, bike riding, skating, climbing or any other use. Ladies HLTA and WHLTA tennis leagues are in play for the fall season. We currently have A level teams on Monday and Wednesday and a B level team on Wednesdays also. The tennis committee has approved the court usage for these times. Reminder for gated sections

Please remember that entry codes are for the use of residents ONLY. Please ask guests and / or contractors to utilize the gate directory to obtain access. If contact information in the directory needs to be updated, please contact Crest Management and provide information.

Home Improvement Reminder

Remember, ALL exterior changes made to your home or yard [including your fence] require ARC approval first. In need of an ARC form? Go to www. our neighborhood website.

Curbside Recycling Info

Curbside recycling now includes all glass, papers, plastics, aluminum and tin cans that are placed within the provided recycling bin. Please only use the recycle bins for recyclable materials. If items exceed container capacity, please place them adjacent to bin, well marked as recycling materials. If you find items left in your bin, it means they are not recyclable. Please dispose of these items in your trash container for the next scheduled pick up. Please remove caps, liquids and food products from inside the containers when recycling. See for additional trash and recycling guidelines and how to obtain additional bins if needed.

Green Trails II WEBSITE

The Website for Green Trails Phase II ( has a “blast email” function. This feature allows the Association to send news to residents on a mass basis. The Board of Directors intends to start utilizing this function more frequently to disseminate important information, particularly in emergencies like Hurricane Ike.   If you have not registered and would like to do so, please go to the “Join Our Mailing List” section of the Website. The only information that you need to enter is your email address. Each of the other items is optional, including your name. None of the information will be distributed to third parties.

Expedited ARC Approvals

Remember to apply and get ARC approval before doing work that affects the exterior appearance of your house or yard. This includes replacing fences, repainting (even the same color) and re-roofing. Approval can take up to one month, so plan ahead. In many cases, you can now expedite the process by paying a $50 fee. For details, see the website, or call Crest Management at 281-579-0761.

Suspicious Activity?

Call the Constable

and report any suspicious activity. The fastest dispatch for law enforcement in our neighborhood is to call the constable direct at 281-463-6666. An alert Green Trails resident recently foiled a car theft by calling the constable when something didn’t seem right. The suspects were arrested. Remember, “No call is too small.”

Please note that the association pays electrical charges for a streetlight whether the bulb is functioning or not. To report street light outages you can contact CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or www.centerpointenergy. com. Be sure to note the pole number and the street address.

How Do We Look?

Curb appeal has a big impact on your property value, even if your home is not for sale. Buyers evaluate the neighborhood, not just one house. Stand back from your house and take a close look to see if it needs a mini-makeover. Think about security as well. Has your shrubbery become overgrown, covering windows or blocking the sidewalk? Do low-hanging limbs obscure the front? Does the lawn have brown areas or weeds? Is the siding mildewed or paint peeling? You may want to ask a friend’s opinion; it is easy to overlook things we see everyday. Make plans now to spruce up.

Next year’s convention will be held in Corpus Christi and all speech and debate teachers are encouraged to attend and learn from the sessions provided as well as ideas of colleagues’ they meet. It’s a “once a year” opportunity to experience a “teaching growth spurt” over a short period of time.

Following the FFA motto “…Living to serve,” in 1943, L.D. Robinson, former Katy High School agriculture teacher, initiated the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show & Rodeo to serve and better prepare Katy ISD students. To celebrate the legacy of Robinson and the anniversary of the FFA Livestock Show & Rodeo, the Casey Donahew Band will perform a concert on February 9, 2013 at 7 PM at the Leonard E. Merrell Center. The L.D. Robinson Scholarship Fund was established in 1970 to honor Robinson. Multiple four-year scholarships are awarded in the amount of $500 per semester to graduating seniors in the Katy ISD FFA and Agriculture Science program who meet the requirements of the scholarship. To date, the scholarship fund has awarded almost 90 recipients. “We are so excited to feature the Casey Donahew Band to celebrate 70 years of grand achievements within the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show & Rodeo,” says Diana Elder, daughter of L.D. Robinson and co-advisor/director of the L.D. Robinson Scholarship Fund. “In the spirit of my father, we would like to continue to give back to the community by increasing scholarship funds for students through this benefit concert.” Casey Donahew released his fourth studio album, Double Wide Dream, in October 2011. In 2012, the Donahew organization received five nominations at the annual Texas Regional Radio Music awards and in June signed up for professional membership with the Academy of Country Music (ACM). For more information about the concert, contact Ben Rolens, general manager of facilities at the Leonard E. Merrell Center, at 281-396-2562. Go to to get your tickets online.

Each September, the Piecemakers quilting group from Living Word Lutheran Church takes a break from making quilts for Lutheran World Relief to make quilts for the children at The Krause Center in Katy. This year, they presented Tawana Goodwin with twenty quilts. Each child receives a quilt when they arrive at the Center and takes the treasured quilt with them when they leave.

During the rest of the year, the Piecemakers make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. These mission quilts go out into the world to provide people in need with the warmth and comfort of a quilt. LWR’s goal in 2013 is to provide 500,000 quilts for people in refugee camps or in areas hit by a natural disaster.

The Piecemakers meet twice a month to tie quilts. The public is welcome; if you can tie a knot they need you! For more information, call the church office at 281-392-2300.

Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Centers

The only time our clients say they feel free is when they’re riding a horse in a brisk walk around the arena or driving a carriage through the wooded pastures or feel the nudge of a horse’s muzzle at their shoulder saying, “I’m glad to see you, my friend.” Nothing else can compare with therapy on horseback. Equine-assisted activities improve physical balance and coordination, mental acuity, emotional stability and social interactions. At SIRE, we see miracles on horseback happen every day. The work of our dedicated volunteers helps guarantee that children and adults with disabilities in the Greater Houston Area will have the programs they need to live longer, healthier, more productive lives.

Adopt A US Soldier

Adopt A US Soldier is a non-profit organization that seeks volunteers and donors to help show the brave men and women fighting for our freedom that their sacrifices will not go unnoticed. It connects supportive civilians with deployed soldiers and offers a channel by which to communicate encouragement and express gratitude to those serving in the United States Armed Forces. Adopt A US Soldier is sustained by its volunteer workforce located across the United States. After a supporter asked a soldier what they needed, his response was as follows: “No requests, just don’t want to be forgotten.” -LCPL O.J.T. III. When registering for Adopt A US Soldier your involvement can range from writing letters and sending postcards, to mailing care packages full of items a soldier may need or want. Handwritten letters are most important and meaningful to soldiers. Adopt A US Soldier encourages civilians to adopt a soldier to show your support for those that are making sacrifices for our country. If interested, please go to www. to register.
