Treitsch Park Expands
Treitsch Park has grown! As of October 9, 2012, Harris County Parks and Recreation will be maintaining the east side of the bayou along the sidewalk between Kingsland and the current Treitsch Park boundary. Harris County Flood Control will continue to maintain the slopes and west side of the channel. Plans are underway for planting additional trees. We thank Commissioner Radack for his support in converting a drainage ditch and basin into an amenity for our neighborhood, as well as for sidewalk projects the County has partnered on.

Security Tips
If you see something suspicious, call the constable at 281-463-6666. Turning on exterior lights makes it easier for the constable or alert neighbors to see your home and to also see what is going on outside it. Park your cars in your driveway and lock them. Keep doors and windows locked (including garages) and alarms set. Trim shrubs so windows are visible. If you are going to be out of town, turn in a Vacation Watch Form. Use timers on lights. WHEREAS, the Association is willing to allow the Resident to conduct such private party and utilize the Pavilion for such purpose and on such date(s), but only upon the following terms and conditions, to which the Resident expressly agrees to be bound: 1.In the event of any damage to the Pavilion, the Resident agrees to be responsible for any and all repairs necessary to return the Pavilion to its condition prior to rental. Further, Resident will pay, upon presentation, any invoice(s) for such repairs. By his/her signature below, Resident agrees to allow a lien to be filed against his/her property (at the address shown below), in the amount of any such damages.
3.Resident agrees, and by these presents does agree, to indemnify and forever hold the Association, its officers, employees, agents, successors and assigns harmless from any and all claims, liabilities, actions, charges or expenses (including attorneys' fees) in connection with the loss of life, personal injury, and/or damage to property arising or alleged to arise directly or indirectly from or out of the occurrence of any event or incident upon or within the Pavilion before, during or after private party or while the Resident, or his/her guests, invitees, employees, agents, and/or contractors are in route to or from the Pavilion before, during and/or after the private party to be held by the Resident; and the Resident, on behalf of him/her/themselves has/have released and do(es) hereby release the Association for its sole negligence and joint negligence for the residents and the Association; its employees, officers, agents, successors and assigns, from and against any and all such claims, actions and/or damages arising directly or indirectly out of Resident's use of the Pavilion for the above stated purposes. 4.The Association shall not be held responsible for any liability due to or resulting from alcoholic beverages served on the premises. 5.Lifeguard fees are to be the direct responsibility of the Resident, and arrangements are to be made directly by Resident with the Association's pool contractor. TENNIS LESSONS/COACHING: Please book tennis lessons by signing up for a court 48 hrs. in advance during non-prime hours. (No evening or weekend morning lessons, please.) If you or your child can only take lessons during prime time, please sign up for the single court at Park Cypress to prevent injury and frustration to our neighbors playing a match. If the lesson is to be a regularly set day and time, please contact the tennis committee for approval and court time can be blocked off for you at the Park Cypress court. The courts are occupied for tennis league play on Monday and Wednesday mornings and no lessons can be given during league play. Residents ONLY may reserve court times. Anyone, including tennis pros, wanting to reserve REGULAR court time in advance for lessons or leagues, must contact the tennis committee through Elaine Kearney at 281-492-6848. To reserve court time, the sign-up bulletin board is located inside the tennis courts. Residents may sign up no sooner than 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period by writing their last name on 3 blocks of the sign-up sheet. (Each block represents 30 minutes.) This is to allow maximum court usage for all residents during prime times (mornings and evenings). Should you sign up prior to 48 hours in advance or for longer than 1 1/2 hours, your name will be subject to removal by a committee member. (Of course, you can walk on and play as long as you like if the courts are not previously reserved.) New residents needing tennis/pool access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access cards are for residents only. Card access is the only way to insure our courts are only being used and cared for by our residents and their guests, please do not open the gates for anyone not having a card. Do not loan out your card. The wheelchair access gate has been tampered with and will be locked to prevent use by non-residents. Residents needing wheelchair access to the tennis courts, please contact the tennis committee and we will be happy to provide you with a key. The lights at the Gerry Ayers courts are numbered. Please note the number of the light before calling to have it repaired. Any maintenance problems at the courts can be reported to Brigitte Hobbesland, 713-591-0880. The tennis court lights are on a timer, they should come on at dusk and turn off by 10:30 pm. PARENTS: Tweens and teens have been observed damaging our tennis courts and the equipment held within. Your yearly maintenance fees pay for this vandalism directly. Our goal is to keep these costs down while maintaining the nice amenities in our neighborhood for all residents. Please let your children know if they are observed abusing our courts and/or their equipment, the Constable will be called to escort them home. Anyone can report vandalism directly to the Constable at 281-463-6666, in the effort to keep our neighborhood’s common areas in good condition. Please note: the tennis courts are for tennis ONLY. Please let your children know the courts are not for soccer, bike riding, skating, climbing or any other use. Ladies HLTA and WHLTA tennis leagues are in play for the fall season. We currently have A level teams on Monday and Wednesday and a B level team on Wednesdays also. The tennis committee has approved the court usage for these times. Curbside recycling now includes all glass, papers, plastics, aluminum and tin cans that are placed within the provided recycling bin. Please only use the recycle bins for recyclable materials. If items exceed container capacity, please place them adjacent to bin, well marked as recycling materials. If you find items left in your bin, it means they are not recyclable. Please dispose of these items in your trash container for the next scheduled pick up. Please remove caps, liquids and food products from inside the containers when recycling. The Website for Green Trails Phase II (www.greentrailstwo.com) has a “blast email” function. This feature allows the Association to send news to residents on a mass basis. The Board of Directors intends to start utilizing this function more frequently to disseminate important information, particularly in emergencies like Hurricane Ike. If you have not registered and would like to do so, please go to the “Join Our Mailing List” section of the Website. The only information that you need to enter is your email address. Each of the other items is optional, including your name. None of the information will be distributed to third parties.
Expedited ARC Approvals
Remember to apply and get ARC approval before doing work that affects the exterior appearance of your house or yard. This includes replacing fences, repainting (even the same color) and re-roofing. Approval can take up to one month, so plan ahead. In many cases, you can now expedite the process by paying a $50 fee. Suspicious Activity?
Call the Constable and report any suspicious activity. The fastest dispatch for law enforcement in our neighborhood is to call the constable direct at 281-463-6666. An alert Green Trails resident recently foiled a car theft by calling the constable when something didn’t seem right. The suspects were arrested. Remember, “No call is too small.”

GARDENING TIPS FOR DECEMBER
• If a long flowering period is desired, pansies should be placed in their permanent beds not later than this month. Fertilize monthly with manure, super-phosphate or a liquid high-phosphate product. Keep flowers picked for more bloom. • Take tulips out of cold storage and plant late this month. • Fertilize established trees, spring-blooming shrubs, spurias and sweet peas (after they are a foot tall) with a fertilizer such as 13-13-13; Louisiana iris with cotton seed meal and manure. • Azaleas and camellias may be moved now. Keep moist to lesson cold weather damage. May acidify again. • Last month to plant early blossoming spring bulbs, speciosum and other varieties of lilies. Mulch.

San Antonio was the site of the recent Texas Speech Communication Association convention (TSCA) which was attended by a group of six current and retired speech teachers and debate coaches from Katy. In addition to numerous interesting, useful and thought provoking sessions on all aspects of teaching speech and debate, several awards were given. Notably among the awards was Secondary Speech Educator of the Year, which was presented to Gay Hollis, James Taylor High School debate coach. She has had a very successful coaching career at Taylor and other schools and is a teacher looked up to by students and colleagues alike.

Another winner from our area was George Tennison, speech teacher and debate coach from Olle Middle School in the Alief School District. He was honored as TSCA’s Middle School Speech Educator of the Year. Next year’s convention will be held in Corpus Christi and all speech and debate teachers are encouraged to attend and learn from the sessions provided as well as ideas of colleagues’ they meet. It’s a “once a year” opportunity to experience a “teaching growth spurt” over a short period of time.

The L.D. Robinson Scholarship Fund was established in 1970 to honor Robinson. Multiple four-year scholarships are awarded in the amount of $500 per semester to graduating seniors in the Katy ISD FFA and Agriculture Science program who meet the requirements of the scholarship. To date, the scholarship fund has awarded almost 90 recipients. “We are so excited to feature the Casey Donahew Band to celebrate 70 years of grand achievements within the Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show & Rodeo,” says Diana Elder, daughter of L.D. Robinson and co-advisor/director of the L.D. Robinson Scholarship Fund. “In the spirit of my father, we would like to continue to give back to the community by increasing scholarship funds for students through this benefit concert.” Casey Donahew released his fourth studio album, Double Wide Dream, in October 2011. In 2012, the Donahew organization received five nominations at the annual Texas Regional Radio Music awards and in June signed up for professional membership with the Academy of Country Music (ACM). Living Word Lutheran Church MAKES QUILTS FOR KRAUSE CENTER
Each September, the Piecemakers quilting group from Living Word Lutheran Church takes a break from making quilts for Lutheran World Relief to make quilts for the children at The Krause Center in Katy. This year, they presented Tawana Goodwin with twenty quilts. Each child receives a quilt when they arrive at the Center and takes the treasured quilt with them when they leave. During the rest of the year, the Piecemakers make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. These mission quilts go out into the world to provide people in need with the warmth and comfort of a quilt. LWR’s goal in 2013 is to provide 500,000 quilts for people in refugee camps or in areas hit by a natural disaster. The Piecemakers meet twice a month to tie quilts. Living Word Lutheran Church “A Night of Rejoicing”
Living Word Lutheran Church invites the Katy community to its presentation of “A Night of Rejoicing” on Sunday, December 9th at 8:00 am, 9:30 am and 11:00 am in the church sanctuary. The cantata will feature the Living Word Choir, Bell Choir, Choristers and a chamber orchestra. “A Night of Rejoicing” features both familiar Christmas carols and newly-composed pieces. St Peter’s UMC Christmas is Coming! What is Christmas without Handel’s Messiah?
To many people, Christmas is just not Christmas without singing or hearing Handel’s Messiah. The Chancel Choir of St Peter’s United Methodist Church will present our annual ‘Messiah Sing-along’ with full orchestra in the Sanctuary on Sunday, December 9th, at 7:00 pm. Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teenage girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

• Storytime - Storytime for preschool-aged children is held each Wednesday at 11:15 AM. Stories, fingerplays and songs are featured. This is ideal for children ages 3 to 5, but all children and their caregivers are welcome. • INFANT STORYTIME - This program will meet each Thursday morning at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM. This is an interactive program for children, ages 0 to 18 months and their caregivers. How would you feel if you saved a kid’s life? StandUp For Kids is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk and homeless kids through volunteer outreach efforts. Our volunteers search the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve

their lives. Every day throughout the US thirteen kids die on the streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent statistics Houston has up to 2,500 kids living on the streets at any given time. Texas has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S. StandUp For Kids needs supplies for our Houston program, which provides food, clothing, counseling and a safe environment for the homeless youth of Houston.
