CWC Women Serving the Community The women’s club closed the year with a wonderful Holiday Party at Tapas Capriccio. We celebrated with our friends and are ready to start the new year as “The Cy-Fair Women’s Club.” Our first meeting in 2012 will be on January 5th at the West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00 pm. Start the new year on the right track and come join us. Make a difference in the community, while developing friendships for a lifetime. CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community, so all funds raised will go right back to the community in scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well. Membership in the CWC is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/ Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00 PM for social time and refreshments, followed by a program at 7:30 PM. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. Houston Fire Fighters Making Houston the City with the Biggest Heart FOR MDA It’s official, Houstonians through the Houston Fire Fighters raised a record breaking $509,961 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association making them the #1 Fill-the-Boot department in the country for the last 9 out of 10 years raising more than $6.3 million during that time. For more than 50 years fire fighters have helped MDA by filling their boots with donations from the citizens of their community. Houston Professional Fire Fighters Local #341 will begin their 2012 Fill-theBoot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday February 11, 2012 during the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM. Fire Fighters will also be out March 10th, April 14th and May 12th to collect funds for the campaign. The Fire Fighters rely on support and donations from the community for the success of the campaign. Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA’s outpatient clinics at Texas Children’s Hospital and The Methodist Neurological Institute. Money raised from Fill-the-Boot also sends young people ages 6-17 to MDA summer camp, held in Burton, Texas.
