The donation was a result of proceeds from the 7th Annual Katy Wine Fest, held on November 9, 2012. The $25,000 grant will help underwrite the next steps in the Brookwood Community’s evolving training and outreach programs, as well as a future Center for Learning. The goal of these ventures is to share Brookwood’s philosophy, methods and best practices with others working in the broader field of disabilities and to provide venues for meaningful exchange with like-minded organizations and ministries. The 8th Annual Katy Wine Fest, scheduled for Friday, November 8, 2013, will once again benefit The Brookwood Community. The event will be held at The Tuscany Villa from 7 PM to 11 PM. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting the Katy Wine Fest website at www.katywinefest.com. Due to limited seating, those interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets early as the event is likely to sell out. For more information about the Katy Wine Fest, visit wwww.KatyWineFest.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/katywinefest. SCOOP YOUR PET’S POOP
Please remember to be respectful of your neighbors’ yards and the community grounds. When you take your pet for a walk, come prepared with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. If your pet poops during your walk, please scoop and trash. It may not be the most fabulous way to walk your pet, but it does show that you respect your fellow neighbors’ and our beautiful community.
KATY ANIMAL CONTROL
Katy Animal Control works in conjunction with the Katy Police Department enforcing City and State laws. Lost pets are kept in a 3,000 sq. ft. temperature controlled, state-inspected building. The Katy Animal Shelter does not adopt out animals, therefore, it is extremely important that pets are licensed and vaccinated at six months of age. The department strives to make the licensing process as convenient as possible and can be scheduled by calling the shelter at 281-391-4740 or email email@example.com. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM and can be reached at 281391-4740 (all calls are logged and returned, so please leave a message). For after hour emergencies, please call the Katy Police Department at 281-391-4848. It is unlawful to dump animals at the shelter.

ANNOUNCES ITS 2013-2014 SEASON!
Carnival Round the Central Figure by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery. Museum of Dysfunction IV - December 6-14, 2013. Short plays from 200 writers who submitted from all over the US and were chosen by a panel. Co-produced by Wordsmyth Theatre. Rome by John Harvey - World Premier - March 6-22, 2014. This original script is being written by local playwright, John Harvey, workshopped by designers, musicians and actors, video documented over a year and presented as a collaborative effort as our final play in the season. Located at Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street, Houston, TX 77007. All performances begin at 8 pm. Price - $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. Pay as you can on Mondays and $25 for opening night with a party immediately after the show. More info/reservations: www. mildredsumbrella.com - firstname.lastname@example.org or 832-463-0409.

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)
Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920’s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or visit our website, www. Decibelles.org. PS: We are starting rehearsal for this Christmas Show. You have time to prepare for it.

ST. PETER’S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH EXPANDS KATY CAMPUS Driving down Kingsland Blvd., it’s obvious that changes are taking place at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy. New walls are peeking up from behind construction fencing and dump trucks and cement trucks line up periodically as footings are dug and foundations are poured.
ELECTRICIAN 5 Year Warranty*
A focus on children, youth and music motivated the congregation of St. Peter’s to raise $5.2 million to provide additional space for a children’s worship center, an expanded student center and a new rehearsal space for the church’s choirs and orchestra. Ground was broken for this building project on April 14th. In addition, the funds will allow for renovations to the sanctuary, nursery and welcome center. Construction is projected to be finished in early 2014. Dr. Pat Sparks joined St. Peter’s as the new senior pastor at the same time the construction was beginning. “On my first Sunday after I was appointed as St. Peter’s pastor, we had our groundbreaking service,” he said. “Now as I look outside of our office windows, the construction is really ramping up. It is exciting to see the walls on the new children’s worship building going up. I look forward to being a part of what God will be doing in the lives of the people who will worship, learn and play in these new facilities.” Mike Eastland, chairman of the Building Committee, said the building program will expand the vital children’s ministry area at St. Peter’s. “We will reach more children with our new children’s worship facility and the centrally located, enhanced nursery space will better serve families in both our contemporary and traditional services.”

The new rehearsal space will allow the various choirs, ensembles and orchestra to assemble comfortably as they prepare for worship on Sunday mornings and also will provide storage areas for the musicians’ equipment. “The Music Department is grateful to the people of St. Peter’s who appreciate and support our music ministry,” said David Galasso, director of music ministries. “The financial support that will make this expansion possible is an expression of appreciation that inspires us to work even harder as we offer our musical gifts to God,” he said.

Tutoring sessions are offered during the day and at night. If you are interested in impacting someone’s life by being their tutor, please contact the Literacy Council at 281-240-8181 or visit the website at www.ftbendliteracy. org. Help us to “Change Lives Through Literacy!”
RUOK PROGRAM Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computergenerated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning,
at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for citizens of their community. To request more information or to enroll in this free and very beneficial program, please call the Sheriff’s Dept. at 281-341-4704.

KATY ISD BOARD CALLS FOR NOVEMBER BOND ELECTION During the August Board work study meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees accepted a bond referendum recommendation by the Student Activity Facilities (SAF) Bond Committee and called for a Nov. 5th Bond election. It is projected that there will be no tax rate increase from the current rate of $.40 with the $99 million authorization. The authorization of the bond referendum by voters would fund the building of three new Student Activity Facilities: Agricultural Sciences Center - $25 million The District has outgrown the current L.D. Robinson Pavilion and room for growth or expanded instructional opportunities is limited. Developing an Agricultural Sciences Center at the current Gerald D. Young facility on Katy-Hockley Road will address student safety and convenience; reduce animal safety risk caused by travel; address the negative impact on Katy HS and Leonard Merrell Center operations and allow for strategic investment in a long-term solution. STEM Project Center - $4.5 million The STEM Project Center will provide additional classroom and project space for students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses and activities. It will provide increased space for students to conduct largescale experiments such as robotics and would lend itself to a variety of engineering projects such as boats, catapults and chip manufacturing. Physics teachers would also have the ability to video a large-scale demonstration at the S.T.E.M.

Six Katy ISD high schools currently participate in varsity football, soccer and marching contests at Rhodes Stadium. With the opening of Tompkins High School, Katy ISD will schedule seven varsity football teams into Rhodes Stadium beginning in August of 2014. Scheduling seven schools in Rhodes Stadium will create a challenge for the District to comply with the U.I.L. 5-day rule. KATY ISD’S PARTNERS IN EDUCATION DEBUTS “HEY VO!”
I f you’ve ever thought about being
someone’s sweetheart, Katy ISD invites you to watch “Hey VO!” (http://vimeo. com/72830951) - the district’s new invitation to volunteers. Starring Cinco Ranch High School Choir Director David Lee and choreographed by Taylor Drill Team Coach Darby Boyd, the film features dancers and singers from all seven Katy ISD high schools and a cameo by Superintendent Alton Frailey. This cinematic call to action is a reminder
that volunteering is fun and that every Katy ISD campus needs and welcomes volunteers. Last year’s volunteer video, “Call Us Maybe,” won the prestigious Crystal Award from the Texas Schools Public Relations Association. During the 2012 - 2013 school year, more than 15,000 parent and community volunteers donated almost 782,000 hours to the children of Katy ISD. That’s the equivalent of 376 full-time staff members! For more information on the volunteer opportunities Katy ISD has to offer, visit www.katyisd.org. Partners in Education is the Katy ISD department that brings the community into the classroom.
