HOA BOARD

MEETINGS

The Falcon Ranch HOA Board monthly meetings are held at The Club at Falcon Point on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The Club at Falcon Point is located at 24503 Falcon Point Drive, Katy, TX. Regular meetings begin at 6:30 PM and residents are welcome to observe. If you would like to address the Board, please call the PMG office at 713-329-7100 to be placed on the agenda. The Board - which is made up of solely Falcon Ranch homeowners - wants to hear resident concerns, but due to time constraints, open-session discussions must be limited. If you plan to attend, please call the PMG office or check the website (www.falconranchhoa.com) to confirm meeting location or for more details.

STAY UP-TO-DATE WITH FALCON RANCH NEWS AND INFORMATION! The Falcon Ranch community website is www.falconranchhoa.com - Check this site for up-to-date community information and to easily communicate with the property management company.

RECYCLE YARD WASTE Residents of Falcon Ranch could benefit the community, as well as their own lawns and pocketbooks, with one simple change in lawn maintenance. If you or your lawn service currently bag grass clippings, simply leaving the clippings to work down into the lawn will make a huge difference in the amount of waste our community puts into the landfill each year. It will also help conserve water, because the clippings will work to maintain moisture in the soil. Both of these benefits will save money in the long-run. Moreover, it is estimated that lawns that are naturally fertilized with grass clippings require 25% less fertilizer - resulting in even more savings to you! Grass clippings and finely chopped leaves add vital nutrients and organic matter to the lawn, thus improving the health of the lawn. It isn’t necessary to use a mulching mower; just mow one inch when grass reaches four inches tall. The clippings won’t be noticed and will break down within a week.

IF YOU HAVE AN ALARM INSTALLED, NOTIFY THE COUNTY You do not need to notify the HOA. You will need to get a permit from the county. Go to the links below for more information:

PRINCIPAL MANAGEMENT GROUP CAN ASSIST HOMEOWNERS
Do you have a question you need answered or a comment you would like to make regarding our community? If so, please contact the Principal Management Group at 713-329-7100 or email your questions or comments to them at board@ falconranchhoa.com. The Principal Management Group will direct inquiries to the proper authorities and every effort will be made to respond to homeowners as quickly as possible.

COMMUNICATING WITH PMG If your mailing address changes, please notify PMG at 713329-7100 immediately. All correspondence from the property management company is sent to the resident’s mailing address on file. The mailing address does not change unless residents contact PMG to update their records. This is especially important to have updated before annual assessments are mailed in November.

WANTING TO MAKE AN EXTERIOR IMPROVEMENT TO YOUR HOME? Many new homeowners like to improve on the new home they purchase by adding a swimming pool, storage shed or other modification. If you want to make an exterior change to your home, please fill out the application in this newsletter and send it to the address on the application. The Association has a committee that reviews these applications and the committee has 30 days to respond. If you have questions, please contact the PGM office at 713-329-7100.

REPORTING SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

• PATIO COVERS & ARBORS •

Visit us online at

Residents are invited to contribute to this local newsletter. Articles should be submitted to the Board (board@falconranchhoa.com) no later than the 20th of the month BEFORE the newsletter is printed, which is the month before distribution. Please make note of these deadline dates:

www.suncoroutdoors.com

You may have noticed the constables patrolling our neighborhoods, working to keep our community safer for everyone. The appearance of constables has raised a question of what to do if you witness suspicious activity. If you see something happening that is an emergency, please call 911. If you see suspicious activities that are not emergencies, call the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office at 281-341-4665.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR Please help keep our roads safe by not parking on the streets in our neighborhoods. Some of our roads are very busy throughout the day and evening, yet they are difficult to drive when cars parked on the road reduce them to one-lane streets. In the case of emergencies, fire trucks and ambulances need to be able to maneuver through the neighborhood quickly. Residents can help by parking in garages and driveways.

To quote our deed restrictions, which everyone was required to sign when they agreed to live in our community: “Overnight parking of any vehicles in the street is prohibited. Owners or occupants of lots may seek a temporary variance from this restriction for their guests: however, any such request for a variance must receive the prior written approval of the Board.” This is Article VII section D titled Parking and Prohibited Vehicles.

HOMEMADE MOSQUITO TRAP (YES, IT’S SKEETER TIME!)

1. Cut a plastic 2-liter bottle in two, halfway between the bottom and the top. 2. Mix 1/4 cup of brown sugar with 1 cup of hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the 2-liter bottle. 3. Add 1 gram of yeast. No need to mix. One packet of Fleischman’s active dry yeast is usually 1/4 ounce or 7 grams, so just a pinch is enough and you’ll have plenty left over from the packet for subsequent refills for your trap (put the leftover yeast packet in a ziplock bag and place in your refrigerator). 4. Place the funnel (top) part of the bottle, upside down, into the bottom half of the bottle, making sure the opening doesn’t extend into the water mixture. Tape the two halves of the bottle together securely with electrical (black) tape so there are no gaps. The black color attracts mosquitoes. 5. Place the trap in an area outside that is away from your normal gathering/activities area. 6. Change the solution every 2 weeks.

PLEASE NOTE - PETS ON LEASHES It is the law in Fort Bend County that all pets must be vaccinated for rabies, registered and restrained. All animals, when outside of an owner’s means of restraint (i.e., in a fenced back yard), must be on a leash. For the safety of all residents, please use all precautions with your pets and keep them on leashes when walking pets in the community EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOUR PET IS HARMLESS. If you see ANY animal roaming freely in the neighborhood, immediately call Animal Control at 281-342-1512. Even if you recognize the animal, be very careful approaching it, as you do not know how it will react; if you can safely retrieve the animal, then call the owner. Otherwise, Animal Control is your best and safest option.

FORT BEND COUNTY “LEASH LAW”

Animal control authorities are permitted to enter your Property to patrol and remove pets. Pets must be registered, licensed and inoculated as required by law. As a dog owner, you are responsible for the control of your dog. If your dog is one that ‘makes objectionable noise,’ you must make every effort to respect your Neighbor’s right to their ‘peace and quiet.’ When your dog is not in your yard, it is imperative that you keep your dog on a leash at all times. While your dog is friendly to you and your family, imagine the consequences if it were to harm someone while it was ‘roaming free.’

Please respect other resident’s right to walk the common area ground without fear of attack from an unleashed dog. Laws are written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash to free a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program’s efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community.

LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Licensing also: • Ensures that rabies vaccination are current. • Allows for quick identification in case of a bite incident. • Provides revenue to offset the administration costs of the animal control program.

• Privacy & Security Fences • Breezeway & Pool Fences • Custom Designs

VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans.

GORDON ROSEL EARNS EAGLE AWARD Gordon Rosel, 18, of Katy, has earned the prestigious Eagle Scout Award, the highest rank the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts. Rosel was recognized in ceremonies on Sunday, April 29, 2013 at St. Peter’s Methodist Church in Katy. He earned the rank of Eagle on February 27, 2013. A member of Troop 209, chartered by St. Peter’s Methodist Church, Rosel is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a service project that benefits a non-profit organization or the community. To earn his Eagle, Rosel developed a Land Navigation Course in George Bush Park that benefits the National Guard Armory, the Boy Scouts and the general public. Rosel began scouting in kindergarten in Cub Scout Pack 443. As a Cub, he earned ranks of Tiger, Wolf and Webelos. When asked what was the most difficult badge to earn he stated; “It was the rock climbing, because I didn’t know how to tie all those knots.” His favorite activity was camping (with over 100 nights of overnight camping to his credit) and admits his favorite camping staple is Pop-Tarts. Gordon received the Triple Crown last summer by completing all three national high-adventure bases operated by the Boy Scouts of American (Northern Tier in Minnesota and Canada, Philmont in New Mexico and Florida Sea Base in the Florida Keys). Rosel has been a member of the swim and football teams, as well as the FFA at Faith West Academy, where he is a senior. In the fall, Rosel plans to attend Sam Houston University to major in Criminal Justice. He was inspired by Scoutmaster Drew Young, a scoutmaster of Troop 209, who is on Houston’s bomb squad. Rosel wants to one day be on the SWAT, because “I see a need for justice and this where I am suppose to go,” he said. He is the son of Jeff Rosel and Kendra Rose both of Katy.

HOMESCHOOL PACK 164 Cub Scouts is a fun way to teach boys about character, respect, responsibility and many other traits. Pack 164 is a Christian, home school Cub Scout Pack that services the Greater West Houston/Katy area. Pack 164 promotes service to God, to country and to others. If you are interested and your son is entering 1st through 5th grade, please contact James Knox at james@kbscs.com.

HOMESCHOOL PACK 393 Cub Scout Pack 393 is a homeschool pack that serves the Katy area. If you have a boy between the ages of 6 and 10 (entered first grade through fifth grade this fall) and are wanting them to join an activity that is full of fun learning experiences, this is the group for you. To learn more about both scouting programs, upcoming summertime events and 393 please email Sam Randolph at sumosam@sumofam.com.

THEATER/ARTS MILDRED’S UMBRELLA THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES ITS 2013-2014 SEASON! FOXFINDER by Dawn King. US Amateur Premier - August 15-31, 2013. Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn award. William Bloor, a ‘foxfinder,’ arrives at Sam and Judith Covey’s farm to investigate a suspected contamination. He is driven by his education and beliefs to unearth and destroy an animal that threatens man’s civilization and to remain free from its influence himself. As his investigations proceed, the events that follow change the course of all their lives - forever. Dawn King’s play won the 2011 Papatango New Writing Competition (in partnership with London’s Finborough Theatre). A darkly comic exploration of belief, desire and responsibility, set in a world both strange and familiar, from a striking new voice in British theatre. CARNIVAL ROUND THE CENTRAL FIGURE by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery. MUSEUM OF DYSFUNCTION IV December 6-14, 2013. Short plays from 200 writers who submitted from all over the US and were chosen by a panel. Co-produced by Wordsmyth Theatre. ROME by John Harvey - World Premier - March 6-22, 2014. This original script is being written by local playwright, John Harvey, workshopped by designers, musicians and actors, video documented over a year and presented as a collaborative effort as our final play in the season. Located at Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street, Houston, TX 77007. All performances begin at 8 PM. Price - $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. Pay as you

The only time our clients say they feel free is when they’re riding a horse in a brisk walk around the arena or driving a carriage through the wooded pastures or feel the nudge of a horse’s muzzle at their shoulder saying, “I’m glad to see you, my friend.” Nothing else can compare with therapy on horseback. Equineassisted activities improve physical balance and coordination, mental acuity, emotional stability and social interactions. At SIRE, we see miracles on horseback happen every day. The work of our dedicated volunteers helps guarantee that children and adults with disabilities in the Greater Houston Area will have the programs they need to live longer, healthier, more productive lives. In addition to their weekly work in the arena, many of our volunteers donate their time and talents at fund-raising events such as our annual Ride-A-Thon and the yearly Trailblazers Luncheon. Volunteers are on hand during the NARHA on-site certification and annual SIRE Show-Off and volunteers are vital to our Clients’ successes at the Top Hands Horse Show, during the Houston Rodeo and competition at the regional and state Special Olympics. Therapeutic horseback riding creates a bond of success between the rider and their horse. Volunteers are their own personal cheering section and the instructor is their mentor and coach. Clients become more empowered and better equipped to fully live their lives, each day. To volunteer, please call one of our arenas and ask to speak with a volunteer coordinator. through volunteer outreach efforts. Our volunteers search the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. Every day throughout the US thirteen kids die on the streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent statistics Houston has up to 2,500 kids living on the streets at any given time. Texas has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S. StandUp For Kids needs supplies for our Houston program, which provides food, clothing, counseling and a safe environment for the homeless youth of Houston. If you or your organization would like to hold a food or clothing drive for StandUp For Kids, please contact me at HeatherE@standupforkids.org to learn more about StandUp For Kids or how you can help, visit our website at www.standupforkids.org. The single greatest need, for homeless and street kids is our continuous caring and real support. We must convince them that we care, we want them back and we want to help them get off the streets.

ADOPT A US SOLDIER

Adopt A US Soldier is a non-profit organization that seeks volunteers and donors to help show the brave men and women fighting for our freedom that their sacrifices will not go unnoticed. It connects supportive civilians with deployed soldiers and offers a channel by which to communicate encouragement and express gratitude to those serving

in the United States Armed Forces. Adopt A US Soldier is sustained by its volunteer workforce located across the United States. After a supporter asked a soldier what they needed, his response was as follows: “No requests, just don’t want to be forgotten.” -LCPL O.J.T. III When registering for Adopt A US Soldier your involvement can range from writing letters and sending postcards, to mailing care packages full of items a soldier may need or want. Handwritten letters are most important and meaningful to soldiers. Adopt A US Soldier encourages civilians to adopt a soldier to show your support for those that are making sacrifices for our country. If interested, please go to www.adoptaussoldier.org to register.

With warm weather and family events, the Fourth of July can be a fun time with great memories. But before your family celebrates, make sure everyone knows about fireworks safety. • Kids should never play with fireworks! • Buy only legal fireworks and store them in a cool, dry place. • Never try to make your own fireworks. • Always use fireworks outside and have a bucket of water and a hose nearby in case of accidents. • Steer clear of others. Never throw or point fireworks at someone, even in jest. • Don’t hold fireworks in your hand or have any part of your body over them while lighting. Wear some sort of eye protection and avoid carrying fireworks in your pocket. • Point fireworks away from homes and keep away from brush and leaves and flammable substances. • Light one firework at a time (not in glass or metal containers) and never relight a dud. • Don’t allow kids to pick up pieces of fireworks after an event. Soak all fireworks in a bucket of water before throwing them in the trashcan. • Think about your pet. Keep pets indoors to reduce the risk that they’ll run loose or get injured.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

If you have ever visited the Statue of Liberty in person, you already know she’s an imposing figure, but consider the following fun facts: • Official dedication ceremonies held on Thursday, October 28, 1886. • Total overall height from the base of the pedestal foundation to the tip of the torch is 305 feet, 6 inches. • Height of the Statue from her heel to the top of her head is 111 feet, 6 inches. • The face on the Statue of Liberty measures more than 8 feet tall. • There are 154 steps from the pedestal to the head of the Statue of Liberty. • A tablet held in her left hand measures 23’ 7” tall and 13’ 7” wide inscribed with the date JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776). • The Statue has a 35-foot waistline. • There are seven rays on her crown, one for each of the seven continents, each measuring up to 9 feet in length and weighing as much as 150 pounds. • Total weight of the Statue of Liberty is 225 tons (or 450,000 pounds). • At the feet of the Statue lie broken shackles of oppression and tyranny. • During the restoration completed in 1986, the new torch was carefully covered with thin sheets of 24k gold. • The exterior copper covering of the Statue of Liberty is 3/32 of an inch thick (less than the thickness of two pennies) and the light green color (called a patina) is the result of natural weathering of the copper.
