Sporting Association Affiliations

Junior School

Kincoppal-Rose Bay belongs to the Independent Primary School Heads Association (IPSHA). This sporting association is designed to encourage students from Year 3 to Year 6 to participate in regular games played on a Saturday and to learn the basic skills required for a sport. The organisation is non-competitive. Through this organisation students may be nominated for representative teams at Combined Independent Schools’ level (NSWCIS) and even at state and national level.

In addition to IPSHA sports, the school offers, Water Polo (Years 5 – 6) in the Eastern Suburbs School Girls (ESSG) competition & Sailing (Years 3 – 6) with Woollahra Sailing Club.

Senior School

The Independent Girls’ Schools Sporting Association (IGSA), a sub-committee of the Association of Heads of Independent Girls’ Schools (AHIGS), convenes the majority of Kincoppal–Rose Bay School’s extracurricular sporting competitions. IGSA is responsible for the organisation of sporting competitions between 26 independent girls’ schools in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

The main aim of IGSA sport is to ensure fair and fun competition for all girls in independent schools who want to play sport. Some students with identified talent and skill will be provided with the opportunity to trial for and IGSA team through AHIGS affiliation. This is the pathway to the NSW Combined Independent Schools, State and National level for all sporting teams.

Most competitions are held on Saturday mornings at member schools or other venues in the Sydney metropolitan area and Mittagong. All Saturday sporting competitions are graded to cater for the huge numbers of students who wish to participate in these competitions.

Sports Program and Requirements

Each student is encouraged to participate in at least one team sport per year. Once a student has nominated him/herself in a sport he/she must attend all games and training sessions. School sport takes priority over club sport.

Students are expected to be worthy ambassadors for the school. This means being punctual, wearing the correct uniform and always demonstrating respect and fair play to others. If there is a limited number of players to enter a team in a specific sport, the school will endeavour to provide a skills development program during the week.

Sports Registration

Sports registration for 2026 will be done online through the school portal, Aspire.

Sports selections will be done on a term-by-term basis, and must be completed prior to the advertised deadline date.

To enter teams into the IPSHA or other associations, affiliated schools are required to enter teams by a due date. KRB Sports Coordinators of the sport will then collate the draw for the season ahead. Late entries will not be accepted.

As well as the Interschool Competition, the Junior School has inter-house competitions in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Information regarding these events is posted on Aspire.

Sporting Events Dates 2026

Please refer to the Barat-Burn Diary, P-6 sport on Aspire and Kincoppal–Rose Bay newsletters for sporting events for 2026. This includes sporting carnivals, representative carnivals, i.e. IPSHA, CIS, PSSA, etc

Kincoppal-Rose Bay Sport ProgramSenior School

It is an expectation of the school that students be regularly engaged in sport or an accomplishment activity of some kind. For the majority of students this will mean involvement in the school’s sports program. Once a student has selected to play in a school team, she must attend all games and training sessions. She is required to be a worthy ambassador for the school. This means being punctual, wearing the correct uniform and always demonstrating fair play. As well as interschool competitions, Kincoppal-Rose Bay has interhouse competitions in swimming and athletics. The House Captains also organise regular sporting competitions throughout the year.

If a student commences at Kincoppal-Rose Bay School midway through any term and is interested in joining a particular sport, she is encouraged to see the Head of Sport immediately. Individual sports can be entered at any stage; however, team sports may have limitations which need to be discussed with the Head of Sport. Every chance will be given to accommodate the sporting needs of new students at Kincoppal-Rose Bay.

Students wishing to have tuition in tennis, dance and gymnastics can join Co-curricular swimming programs that are organised by specialist teachers. School sport is provided for each student at whatever level she is capable. It is not expected to take the place of club or association sport and girls are encouraged, where possible, to participate in their local clubs and associations.

All team members are required to be present for all weekend matches and must not make arrangements that will make them unavailable on Saturdays. In special circumstances only, a parent may liaise with the Head of Sport to organise a weekend’s absence from sporting commitments. This request must be sent to the Head of Sport the Tuesday prior to the Saturday match.

Requesting leave at the last minute is not acceptable.

We have the responsibility to ensure that sport at Kincoppal-Rose Bay is conducted in a positive environment by emphasising enjoyment and by encouraging and complimenting all participants on their efforts. We have a ‘sport for all’ philosophy, with consideration for individuals and groups with diverse needs.

Senior School Sporting Opportunities

It is school policy that all students are required to participate in at least one sport per term.

All sports choices will be done electronically through the online registration. Terms 1 and 4 sports and Terms 2 and 3 sports will remain the same for the duration of the year. Students will be unable to change their selection between Term 2 and Term 3 or Terms 1 and 4.

2026 Sports Training

Junior School

The majority of sports training sessions are held during the Years 3 – 6 timetabled sports afternoons on Wednesdays, 1.30pm to 3.00pm.

Students who do not register for sport at KRB will participate in our KRBFit program during this Wednesday sport period, which is designed to improve fitness and physical literacy across a range of activities.

Sailing and Athletics are not included in Wednesday afternoon sport. Their trainings will occur before or after school.

Senior School

Sports training sessions are held before and after school Monday to Friday mornings and Tuesday to Thursday afternoons.

Training session time will change with the change of each sports season and can’t be predicted ahead of time.

Expectations/Requirements

at Training

• Once a student has nominated him/herself in a sport he/she must attend all games and training sessions. School sports take priority over club sport.

• Students should attend training for the full duration of the session unless prior arrangements have been made with the teacher in charge of the sport. Notice in advance is essential.

• Students are expected to be worthy ambassadors for the school. This means being punctual (on time), wearing the correct uniform and always demonstrating fair play.

• Students are expected to work at maximum effort and to listen and observe all instruction given by the coach.

• Students are to meet the coach or teacher in charge of the sport in the designated assembly area (set at the start of each term) in their sports uniform. Sun hat is compulsory.

• Students should be polite and courteous at all times and treat the coach, staff members, officials and other players with respect.

• Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with directly by the Head of Sport. Parents of students that continue to misbehave, act inappropriately or commit a serious offence will be contacted, the Head of Junior School will be notified, and further action may be taken.

• At the end of a training session, students are required where necessary to collect and return sporting equipment under the direct instructions and supervision of the coach or teacher. If they are training at an external venue, students must wait with the supervising teacher until collected by a parent. They must have their name marked off the roll before leaving with a parent/guardian. Students not collected by the finish time will be taken back to the Junior School.

KRB Saturday Sport Leave Policy

All team members are required to be present for all weekend matches and must not make arrangements that will make them unavailable on Saturdays.

In special circumstances only, a parent may submit a Saturday sport leave request form. This can be found on the Sports page on Aspire.

Special leave must be requested prior to the Tuesday before the Saturday match.

Emailing or requesting leave the day prior to Saturday Sport is unacceptable.

If players are absent, they are letting down their team and their school.

If a student is unavailable to attend a scheduled training session, the student or parent must email a sports coordinator on the same day as the missed training session.

Failure to comply with the above will automatically place a student on Directive Community Service after school. A pattern of unexplained absence may result in a student not being placed in her preferred sporting team or sport for future terms.

Wet Weather Procedures

In the case of wet weather on a weekday, the Sports department will make every effort to avoid cancelling training. Outdoor sessions will be moved indoors where possible. If training must be cancelled, due to extreme weather or no alternate training space, an Aspire notification will be pushed out by 6.00am for morning sessions and 1.00pm for afternoon sessions.

All parents/guardians are responsible for checking Aspire for wet weather updates. If there are no wet weather updates on Aspire, assume that training is on.

If it is raining on a Friday night / Saturday morning, please refer to each individual sport’s Aspire page for Saturday Sport wet weather updates / procedures. The Sports department will contact all relevant officials, managers, coaches, etc. with any changes to Saturday fixtures.

It is advisable to check prior to leaving for the designated venue. Please note that games may be cancelled without much warning and possibly once you’ve arrived at a destination. This is due to unpredictable and inclement weather changes in different areas/suburbs.

If games are not cancelled students are expected to report to the venue for their game. Any decision to abandon games due to poor weather conditions will be made at the venue.

School Sports Uniforms

The Kincoppal-Rose Bay School sport uniform is made for maximum student comfort and identification of KRB students. The look is a whole School K-12 design; however, within this there are different uniforms specified for the different needs of the age groups in the Junior and Senior School. There is a core tracksuit for all students and a separate uniform design for boys and girls.

Sport Fees

Junior School

Barat-Burn has a ‘user-pays’ fee system for sport. Each term has a range of sports to choose from (see Sports Program above); some include a Saturday matchday component and others are ‘weekday only’. Each sport with a Saturday component has a fee of $345. All ‘weekday only’ sports have a fee of $215 per sport.

These fees cover the cost of team registration, coaching levy, officials (referees/umpires), venue hire, specialist equipment and Representative Team Nomination Fees (where applicable). All sports fees are paid online upon sign-up/registration.

*This is not inclusive of any Kincoppal-Rose Bay School activities. Please refer to the Ignite Co-curricular Handbook Schedule for Basketball, Dance, Gymnastics, Swimming and Tennis fees.

Senior School

Kincoppal-Rose Bay School will charge a sports levy per term which will charged to the school account at the beginning of each term. Please note that this does not cover activities such as snow sports or any of the KRB Co-curricular sport activities (e.g., Dance, Gymnastics, Swimming, Tennis).

Risk & Safety

Accident Insurance

AHIGS (IGSA) and Eastern Suburbs Touch Association do not take any responsibility for insuring the cost of medical or dental expenses in the case of accidents to students while playing sport or taking part in AHIGS (IGSA) activities. Parents are therefore advised to consider taking out the appropriate insurance cover.

Many organisations offer comprehensive accident insurance at reasonable rates.

The NSW Sporting Injuries Insurance Act automatically covers all school children – however, this cover is only for extreme injuries resulting in death, quadriplegia, paraplegia or loss of limbs or other body organs or parts. The cover is also not substantial.

In the case of an accident at AHIGS (IGSA) sport, the staff member in charge of the team is required to complete an accident form and return it as soon as possible to the AHIGS (IGSA) Sports Convenor. Once the injured student returns to school the Sports Department will complete a Kincoppal-Rose Bay School Accident and Injury Form.

If your child incurs an injury during sport at Kincoppal-Rose Bay School, she/he must refer her/his injury to the staff member/coach on duty so that the appropriate accident form can be completed at the time of injury.

NB: parents, it is important that accident forms are completed so that the school has a record should any claims be made.

RISK WARNING

(Under Section 5M of Civil Liability Act 2002)

On behalf of Kincoppal-Rose Bay School, AHIGS and IPSHA: sporting activities 2023 Kincoppal-Rose Bay School organises many individual and team sporting activities during the course of a year. Some of these are organised in conjunction with the Association of Heads of Independent Girls’ Schools NSW (AHIGS) and some with the Independent Primary School Heads’ Association of Australia NSW (IPSHA). Students participating in these sporting activities take part in practise and in competitions.

Kincoppal-Rose Bay School, AHIGS and IPSHA expect students to take responsibility for their own safety by wearing compulsory safety equipment, by thinking carefully about the use of safety equipment that is highly recommended and by behaving in a safe and responsible manner towards team members, opponents, spectators, officials, property and grounds.

While Kincoppal-Rose Bay School, AHIGS and IPSHA take measures to make the sporting activities as safe as reasonably possible for participants, there is a risk that students can be injured and suffer loss (including financial loss) and damage as a result of their participation in these sporting activities, whether at training or in actual events.

Code of Conduct for School Sport

Part 1: Governing Principles

The principles under which sport at Kincoppal-Rose Bay School is played are:

• emotional, personal and physical development.

As well as enjoyment, children gain invaluable personal benefits from playing in teams. Sport can assist children to develop self-respect and self-discipline. Through their participation they can develop an appreciation of sport, recreation and exercise as part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. They can also develop a sense of sporting conduct and a spirit of fairness, respect, graciousness and generosity towards others.

All these benefits can be gained whether a team wins or loses.

• Sport between other schools/clubs must not be allowed to damage:

– the reputation of the school

– the reputation of independent schools generally; or

– good relations between other schools/clubs

Part 2: Players

It is hoped that all sport at Kincoppal-Rose Bay School will be played and watched in the best sporting spirit.

These guidelines are given to all students participating in, and watching, Kincoppal-Rose Bay School teams:

• once you commit yourself to a sport for a season, honour that commitment wholeheartedly.

• take pride in your sport and your participation in it.

• respect the members of your team and treat them courteously.

• respect your opponents and treat them courteously.

• arrive in good time for sports training and at least 30 minutes prior to a fixture.

• be ready to begin your game or event at the scheduled time.

• always be dressed in the correct uniform and with any specific safety equipment required, e.g., mouthguard.

• attend all required training sessions at required time.

• when captains meet before a game to toss, wish the opposing captain a good game.

• the home team should welcome the visiting team courteously and in a sporting manner.

• never discourage another player, whether from an opposing team or from your own team.

• never argue with an umpire, referee, judge, timekeeper or other official. Your team captain may politely ask an official to explain a ruling or action. Alternatively, you may speak to your coach or staff member who may approach the official at an appropriate break during or after a game.

• be prepared to applaud good play, whether by your team or your opponent.

• never cheer or clap your opponent’s poor play.

• control your temper and never abuse equipment.

• never deliberately foul an opponent.

• never use offensive language at the end of a game.

• give three cheers for your opponents.

• after a game, thank your opponents.

• after a game, thank the umpire or referee and your coach. You should also try to thank judges, timekeepers and other officials.

• be gracious at all times, whether you have won or lost. Be modest in success and, if you have been defeated, acknowledge your opponent’s performance.

• treat everybody the way you would like to be treated.

Part 3: Parents

• Parents are asked to bear these things in mind:

• your children are playing school sport, not grade level sport, and their sport enables them to learn basic skills as well as proper sporting behaviour.

• school sport should be seen in proper perspective and children should be allowed to enjoy their sport, make mistakes and learn from them. This is especially true for children in their first couple of seasons in a sport.

• encourage your children to:

– play honestly

– behave responsibly

– dress tidily and appropriately for their sport

– accept and respect referees’ and umpires’ decisions.

• do not ridicule a coach, referee, umpire, player or official. If you have any grievance or query, please discuss this with the Head of Sport at an appropriate time. Do not involve children in such a discussion.

• do not ridicule a player for a mistake. Encouragement will produce better results.

• please be aware that under no circumstances are coaches to be asked to transport your daughters to and from sport.

• parents not abiding by the School’s Parent Code of Conduct may not be permitted to attend sporting fixtures.

Part 4: Coach’s Responsibilities

The coach is responsible for every team member at training and at Saturday matches. Players must follow the directions from the coach and team managers and assist in any way as directed. Please refer to the player code of conduct.

The parent manager is required to do the following:

• To assist the coach or fill in for the coach in any event where they are not be available.

• All team members are required to be at their venue at least 30 minutes prior to their match time for a warm- up. If the team coach is occupied with another team prior to your team, it is the manager’s responsibility to organise a warm-up enabling the match to start promptly. It is possible that a coach may be rostered on to coach back-to-back games on a Saturday morning.

• Bring the bag/kit required for each sport to every Saturday match and return it to the Sports Department at the end of the season.

• To collect the score sheet from the sports convenor and take score of the match when necessary.

• Be a point of contact if a message needs to be conveyed to all team members.

• Be a contact for the team if a team member is not well enough to play (in some sports a reserve may need to be contacted).

• Organise an orange/fruit roster where necessary.

• Take photos of the team and e-mail them to the Sports Department for use in the Barat-Burn Sports Presentation.

Without the assistance of Kincoppal-Rose Bay School parents the school could not provide the service to sport that it does. If you would like to be a team manager of your child’s team, please indicate on the relevant section of the Sport Registration Forms.

Thank you to all team managers for their assistance towards sport at Kincoppal-Rose Bay School.

Sports Registration

What is a sports registration?

A sports contract is a commitment by the student and her parents/guardians to participate in a Kincoppal-Rose Bay School sporting team and to attend all listed matches and associated training sessions.

It is compulsory for all players to attend all training sessions.

If your daughter/son has a legitimate reason for not attending, please forward an explanatory email to the Sports Administrator. If an email is not received the student will be given school community service.

If you have any problems with transport or your daughter/ son is unable to attend a Saturday game please notify the Head of Sport or coordinator of the sport as soon as possible.

Why are they required?

Submission of a sports registration is essential prior to a student attending trials in any sport, as it is the only indication we have of registrations in the particular sport. In most cases, the number of teams we wish to enter in a competition must be determined prior to trials and well ahead of the actual season.

All students who put in a sport registration for any sport are assured of a place in a team and are expected to carry out their commitment.

If a student fails to attend training without written permission, they jeopardise their position in a team.

Team Selection and Representative Pathways

Team Selections Junior School

Several factors are involved in fielding teams in competitions and all of these factors are taken into consideration when the school enters teams. Please refer to the individual sports selection policies on Aspire.

Sport Selection Senior School

KRB fields teams in several sporting competitions (IGSA and Eastern Suburbs). These competitions require selection and grading of teams and individuals.

Where KRB enters teams in competitions players need to be graded according to their ability level. This enables the school to ensure that they are entered into competitions with opponents of similar ability levels.

Where KRB offers a sport over two terms of the year, for example, Touch Football, Tennis, Water Polo, Badminton and Hockey, students are required to stay with the same sport over the two terms. If a student plays Term 1 tennis, they will be required to play Term 4 tennis rather than change to another sport. This will also continue with Term 1 sport for the following year. The same applies for Term 2 and Term 3 team sports. Any student needing to change will need approval from the Head of Sport.

Students will need to give careful consideration to the choice of sport they choose as they will be required to play it over two terms in a school year.

Sports in which the school enters teams include:

• Touch football

• Tennis

• Volleyball

• Water polo

• Basketball

• Football

• Hockey

• Netball

• Badminton

When selecting teams, the Sports department will follow the selection policy for each specific sport. These can be found on the sports Aspire pages.

Representative Teams Junior School

KRB fields representative teams in a variety of sports which include:

• Athletics

• Cross country

• Swimming

• Tildesley Tennis

When selecting teams for representative carnivals, the Sports department will follow the selection policy for the representative sport. These can be found on the sports Aspire pages.

Representative Teams Senior School

Through AHIGS (IGSA) and local sports associations, students have the opportunity to represent:

• KRB

• AHIGS (IGSA)

• Combined Independent Schools (CIS)

• NSW at State level

• Australia at National level

Students are encouraged to view the IGSA website for information and updates on their chosen sports.
