LETTER FROM EDUCATION

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Benton Harbor’s Kidz Camp launches their own custom planes during a tour, inspired by Israel Davis (below). Art Camp Manager Kim Wood with campers.

With summer ending, we bid a fond farewell to the faculty, counselors, children and families who participated in our 2011 Fine Art Farm summer art camps. Special thanks go to graduating seniors Anna Petlick and Noreen Walls, and a big round of applause goes to Kim Wood, the 2011 Summer Art Camp Manager. Yee haw! Looking ahead, as you notice the leaves hinting to change, look for more vibrant hues coming from our fall youth and teen programs. It is the KAC’s mission to bring people and art together in powerful ways to enhance the quality of life. With our new semester long afterschool programs (rather than 4-6 weeks) we’ll provide a stronger foundation of experiential fine art education for community youth, from kindergarten to college. The new Portfolio Development class (pg. 5) is a

year-long initiative to empower area high school students to pursue professional levels of art for years to come. I look forward celebrating their personal and artistic growth. I’m personally looking forward to school and community groups returning, whether to tour the galleries and sculpture garden or to experience first-hand artifacts from Africa and Greece. I warmly invite area educators—whether public, private or home school; and other community group leaders to attend our Educator Open House on Sept. 15 (pg.1) to learn about these and other learning resources the KAC has to offer. As you enjoy the last few days of summer, please feel free to contact me at education@krasl.org for more information regarding any of our classes, programs, or tours.
