FRAGMENTATIONS Infinite process of separation and re-union which is metaphorically associated with lifecycle itself is represented in this endless series in form of fragmentations. Compositions which in my mind stand closer to the minimal architecture , are also the expressions how I imagine my perfect surrounding environments. Here I’m inspired by taking philosophical ideas and give them (geometrical) abstract visual meaning, by bringing the pieces in unity without altering the balance even in the asymmetrical forms. I’m also trying to find the perfect separations with existing geometrical shapes to create new forms as a background and then spread another geometrical form on all sides of the units. Even so here I’m more engaged with painting processes, in result I call them ‘wall sculptures’ which are fractional, form - preserved. The piece comprising of separate elements forms a macro composition and is conceived as one of integral painting. The void between the elements is observed with geometrical accuracy. More precisely, it enables us to think and see the composition together and separately and imagine the world and universe in micro and macro conception. Each component bears deep loading and incites emotional feelings. In fact these are codes, deciphering of which leads us to infinity. Irrespective of the fact that composition is very concrete, it bears a diverse charge. It is like a cosmos, where everything is dissociated into molecules and is united with absolute precision. It mainly expresses the space, emptiness in it, and its might.

EARLY WORKS

I always liked to manipulate with the empty spaces or at least represent it that way no matter if they contained bitter conceptual content or not. Sometimes I encrypted them in associative forms and textures with various techniques that I had used. Working mostly in hundreds of studies and sketches and seldom directly to a canvas. This various encounters and early pieces can be premeditated as well expressive and vice versa. It could depend on many things I had involved for the making composition to painting like for example; theme of the particular series, story of stand-alone piece - texture and its hues - type of medium that I have chosen for, visual interpretations of a detail from a book I have read - to music I listened, geographical locations could pretty much reflected on pieces, I traveled for years - its nature and circumstances, very seldom locality - people or societies known to me, which have deserved my interest or on the contrary the protest and so on… subjects were always endless …real or imaginary – they were infinite. These selected compositions are enhanced with very well studied color combinations and their thick layers of structures as the rest of the various media that is attributed immense significance, by the use of which character portraits and landscapes of associative origin are formed. During the process of creation I was dealing mostly with aspects and criteria’s such as: maximum purity, fineness and plainness, reached color, relief, exact shapes and form. If it came to layering dry pigments - then with safety masks and gloves in isolated space where I had manipulated with: various chemical mixtures for countless rare mineral, synthetic or organic pigments, their dosage and timings. I used to love working with dry pigments. They are such a huge containers of visual vibrant color energy. Especially challenging when I used them as top layers on oil or acrylic surfaces – that is what made some paintings alive, moving or spinning.

CREATIONS AND CREATIVE DESTRUCTIONS (TRILOGY IN PROGRESS)

50

51

Project “Bloody White” is the first part from the series of projects in progress “Creations and Creative Destructions”. It includes painted wooden object and single channel video installation. Trough this composition I give a metaphor of creation and it’s processed destruction, which I link with an idea of what mankind in general does in their lifecycle. Human nature is pretty much self destructive. We actually destroy each other’s and our own creations. There were always horrors going on our planet; like wars, violence’s, interruptions etc… and still are actually – still more and more. Those issues off coarse reflect on contemporary art, especially for me it became another subject matter. I question myself; “- Is there a time to paint beautiful flowers?” I guess not for me. Maybe because we all have experienced some of those tense conditions many times. So this piece can be reviewed as art awareness with main message that people should take care of each other’s existence and their creations, because it’s fragile like any masterpiece created by human hands. So there is how I’ve expressed it: I’ve painted on wooden piece in many layers; with acrylic, then with pigments and with three extra layers of household industrial gloss paint, finally varnishing it with lacquer. One side white and the other side vivid red. When I’ve finished the monochrome object , I’ve managed to arrange a special appointment at the shooting club in Langedijk the Netherlands to film it’s controlled destruction using several different weapons. The bullet holes actually made the depth of several layers visible. The four minute video shows us the process itself – the transformation from one solid work to another. The final result object with bullets spread around stands for idea of – “what would you get when you altering attacking the purity” or in another words “after effects of violence”. This piece is project in progress.

“Bloody White” (Object + Single Channel Video Projection) - 2008 & in progress Acrylic, Pigment, Houshold gloss, Bullets; 20mm Shotgun, 357 magnum on plywood Dimension of Object: 90x40x7cm / Duration of Video: 3min 16sec 52

Project “Fragile” is the second part from the series of projects in progress “Creations and Creative Destructions”. It includes a large scale painted aluminum sheet as a sculpture and single channel video installation. In “Fragile” the subject matter is exactly the same as in “Bloody White”, only here technique of execution lays in another mediums. Here instead of bullets I’m using an actual war machine – a Tank in context as a brush, to imprint the traces on (layered painted with nitro enamels) red monochrome alluminum sheet. In another word; ‘to leave the traces of fragile exactness’ on the object as a sculpture. The video shows us the process of that particular transformation and is filmed at small military base of village Ujarma district near Tbilisi, Georgia. This second piece is as well a project in progress.

“Fragile ” (Sculpture + Single channel Video Projection) – 2009/ 2010 & in progress Enamel paint and tank tracess on alluminum Dimension of sculpture: 220x150x0,5cm / Duration of video: 13min 33 sec

Project “Explosive Studies” is the third part from the series of projects in progress “Creations and Creative Destructions”. It includes the sub-series of works on cellulose paper (which I see as studies) and a single channel video installation. Also here the idea and subject matter stays exactly the same like on it’s predecessors “Bloody White” and “Fragile” – only here again I’ve changed the materials and technique of execution. This time I’m painting with range of enamel paints, old Dutch bister, adding some fool’s gold particles, viridis nitentis liquid substance and 10% iodine solution – as a metaphor of healing the wounds – on the cellulose cardboard paper pieces. And right after finishing the work I place and explode one or two different firecracker explosives on each unit. The video shows us again the process of creation and its splashy small explosive transformation. This is an indoor project and is filmed at my studio in Tbilisi, Georgia. I called this sixteen piece composition studies because it can be repeated monumentally on larger materials (like selected metals) with heavier controlled explosions outdoor at military base polygons for example. This third experimental work is also project in progress.

“Explosive Studies / ES-1 to ES-16” (Works on Cellulose + Single channel Video Projection) – 2010 Enamel paint, bister, viridis nitentis substance, 10% iodine solution, Pyrite, Genuine Cochineal Particles, Mixed Media and firecracker explosives on 16 cellulose cardboard papers Size: 22,5x20cm each, unframed / 32,5x30x5cm, framed / Duration of video; 10min22sec

Excerpt from interview with Khatuna Khabuliani (art critic, full professor at State Academy of Art and Ilia State University of Georgia) Konstantin Mindadze is one of the most significant figures of Georgian contemporary art scene. He has been a subject of many articles written in magazines and a topic in broadcasting media. Last year’s He is best known for its multimedia large scale environmental installations which contain and combine elements of painting, drawing, sculpture, video and sounds. Synthetic structure of the world, mental and biological reactions, lifecycle and death, existence and transience, love and loss, globalization and technologies, fears and religions, consumerism and commercialism, historical facts and processes of decay are key themes in Mindadze’s work. Most of these projects involve the viewer with a lasting communication; they develop in time as well - showing the transformation of sometimes organic materials or chemical compounds. As for example in his recent show “Eden Lost” presented at National Museum of Georgia; which contained the elements of organic decay, speaking about transience of commercial concepts and inevitable demand on them, Strong brands and their power beyond its distribution, psychological dominance and social side of the picture. KK: As I know recent Project “Intoxications and Inspirational Errors” (in two volumes) was pretty complex and took lot of time and energy. Why was it so important for you that you spend more than one year working mainly on that? KM: They appeared under one name (only in two volumes) and they may have one main thing in common and that is globalization, but they are still very different works. Importance of first volume ‘Black Hole of Inspiration’ to me is first of all because I see it partly as autobiographical piece. That I’ve been exactly through that distress and overcame that somehow. I really hated all my old creations and even my existence - thinking that everything is already done - I was pretty sick of inspirations and all the information - and it lead me to non-productive period and real depression. But it thought me a lot. Only after that hard time I started adding all multimedia fields and later separating my works in different oeuvres. That is all metaphorically expressed in that piece. Second volume is more social and has ironic view of consumerism too through time and history of known general global events. So it’s much easier for the viewer to recognize the clues. First volume, which I consider my best work ever so far, was just very critically acclaimed. KK: So through distress you’ve approached a new format? KM: yea, in my case you can say so. KK: Was that new format that important for you? KM: I think unconsciously I think it was even a need as well. And I realized that I was a sculptor and not a painter. Know I look to my paintings and I consider them as wall sculptures. But I always miss somehow painting process, especially last years when I go from drawing directly to production processes. So painting will always partly stay. KK: Is there as specific form that you use to communicate with public? KM: Honestly, you can’t foresee in my case of what general reactions will be of an audience, because I enjoy making surprises. So I enjoy different opinions as well. KK: Has your work ever been censored? KM: Yes, couple of times even outside of Georgia. For example in 2006 I could not exhibit the work “19 headaches” because of the censored texts like ‘Injection at ministry of Internal Affairs’, ‘Pill for police state mentality’, ‘Injections for Priests’ and many related - banned as politically incorrect – which I don’t even consider as political works - I speak more about victims of any occupation. And also in 2008 I was advised not to exhibit - my first part of Trilogy in Progress Creations and Creative Destructions “Bloody White” - which included the shooting at my own work with several weapons. Later in 2010 I’ve exhibited them in renowned Art Society “Arti et Amicitiae” in Amsterdam (which I happened to a member of since the end of 2008) and show was pretty much successful. So barriers always exist each time, when you doing something new. KK: Recently valuable contemporary art became branded like it characterizes pop-art. Speaking of Hirst or Murakami etc... What you think about it? KM: I don’t see any problem in its not too exaggerated like Keith Haring illustrations are on mug’s, souvenirs on every stupid domestic object - draws pretty cheap picture at first glance - which I can’t say about Hirst for instance. So, mass production of creative limited edition art pieces is great - why not. KK: When you noticed that you’re becoming successful as an artist?

“I’m in love with oblivion” / 2012 Carved live size headache pill (citramon) 15x15x5cm (with frme)

KM: Since I noticed that I start to disturb some people around. Complete interview was published by “Khedi” magazine and also it will be posted online on artist’s blog

Unfortunately I never knew Irakly in person, maybe because from early age I mainly lived and studied in Amsterdam. I know that our parents were good friends. I remember once arriving from New York our mutual friend took me to Irakly’s new album “down with a king” presentation to accompany a year anniversary since his death and that’s where I first met Ketato, since then we are close friends. Irakly’s creative genius was always more in my taste – I still consider him as one of the most tasteful key figure alternative rock musicians on Georgian music scene and certainly will stay as unique one in history. I also think that his lirics and music is timeless and perhaps that is the reason that it still becomes a source of inspiration for many artists and not only musicians including me. I remember once by extensively listening to his albums in Amsterdam resulted in creating a work called “Organ-on” that I’ve dedicated to his memory. That composition makes me think about a monumental instrument as a main musical organ – it’s sound wave is expanding together with universe in time and despite of life’s transience it is in infinity progress and full of countless possibilities (intellectual or instinctive) it is limitless – limitless as valuable artist. I’m always interested in such – and such was Irakly Charkviani.

Catherine Kurtanidze : Your main inspiration in this exhibition is conditionality of time as you stated. Besides that, how do you think On Kawara’s work is contextually related to you in this case?

Konstantin Mindadze : I think the meaning of “time” completely disappears in installed pieces that I’ve created for this project. Speaking of On Kawara and maybe by partly thinking of how he daily reminds us of his existence, led me to create “Out of date, time and space painting”, which I think is not only uniting Kawara’s approaches on matters of time, but it also designates and indicates us to conditionality or continuality and infinity of time. In difference of multiple countless dates, pointing us either in past or in to the future, which bears existentialistic significance, here only thing that matters, is the moment, which almost does not even exist, called “Now” – the present, which transforms the existence in “Today” last forever. If “Out of date, time and space painting” visually stands as conceptual piece, “Black Sphere” sculpture with its heavy coarse relief and meteorite particles create effect of fall, frozen in time. When viewing the sphere closely one might think of lifeless planetary surface and from distance it can be also associated with unknown mystic celestial body from outer space. If only I could represent it imponderably floating in the void, it would probably be one of the most relevant works I did so far. C.K. : Your “Spatial Expansion” makes you think of a deeply ordered chaos. Is it possible that here you are assembling the questions concerning infinity of the universe and also however distinctively trying to frame it?

K.M. : You might consider “Spatial Expansion” as a continuation of my “Fragmentation” oeuvre. In fact these are codes, deciphering of which leads us to the infinity as in cosmic universe, where everything is dissociated into micro elements and at the same time united with absolute accuracy. With this piece I comprehend endless chaos and order of inner and outer universes. Invisible connections enable us to think and see the composition together and separately like everything in life. Namely the distance gives us an opportunity to imagine, internal loading, feeling of air, crossing the lines and expiration.

Description: This is the one of the most unconscious work that came out. It actually made up for itself by the time. Canvas is painted over for many times. And here is how it happened; Somewhere back in 2002 in Amsterdam I wanted to paint an abstract clock without pointers, so I did that. So it came out to this and I didn’t liked it – I didn’t liked colors, form, proportions – It didn’t look alive – so I was absolutely not satisfied at all and took this canvas in the basement. There were earlier pieces with similar stories that I was destroying. But only reason the painting survived me is that somehow I liked the texture of the rings I guess. So I forgot about this piece very quickly and easy. Years went by… Returning from New York to Tbilisi in spring of 2007, thinking and continues playing in my head the excerpts from a Marcel Proust’s – Swans Way, somehow made me search and dig through my grandfathers huge medical archive. I found these amazing old Images of nistagmograms of a human eye and immediately thought about excerption: “Protected by a covering of images under which I would find it alive”. Well I did not wanted to make a collage – so I wanted to nail them somewhere. Since I didn’t want to damage old images – I’ve stitched them to unprimed linen pieces with pink yarn. On my way back to Amsterdam, I took these stitched images per accident with me and hanged them in my studio, just for myself and not even thinking about including them in exhibition or something. One day I end up in my old basement searching through many early works and this painting came out just as ugly and dead as I remembered – the oil surface was actually damaged and I painted with green pigment and some enamel paints thinking about our family friend who is crazy about green stuff. But I did not like it neither in green. This damn canvas is cursed! - thought I. And went in store - bought a cheep but pretty strong polar white household gloss. When I returned, I took a big raw brush and spread the content of the can allover the surface. By doing that I thought about stitched images – so I ran upstairs, brought the small piece and mount it on stinky but sleek wet paint. Starring by how my cheep household white paint was eating the surface of unprimed linen – I realized that I’ve symbolically froze the time. My old time which is alive only in my memories – which I’ll never ever will experience again. And this all happened by the way, while I was working on many other projects. (First homage installation on Marcel Proust theme I dedicate to my grandfathers Alexi Mindadze’s Memory.) 120

“What can a bundle of interruptions hope to say? What can a paradox with hidden parts possibly reveal?” (After Hans Dieter Bahr) – 2009 Oilpaint, aureolin, wasp, wasps nest and laquer on linnen Size: 105x75x3cm

“Does not the effect of a gap, which itself questions the desire, precede the exciting and hauntingly beautiful ‘actio in distance’ of which Nietzsche spoke? Does not the encounter introduce a distance to every object through which the event receives a particular coloring of alternative possibilities? Estrangingly the encounter runs through the opposites of waking and sleeping, life and death, presence and absence. And already in the first, that is Homer’s decisive question ‘are you mortal or immortal?,’ will the encounter, in which the stranger is still without a name, without desire, without history – where he has not yet been the other – have taken its leave” >>>> Hans Dieter Bahr 124

BEAUTY UNDER ATTACK

Environmental Accumulation “Quests, Encrypted Experiences, Methods and Remnants for Beauty under Attack” / 2010 Pigment, Industrial Paint, Three Fire Department Axes on Three Railway Hardwood Sleepers, Polaroids, Chromogenic Color Prints, Clock, MP3 Player, TV set, Armchair, Painted Quotes on Wall and Mixed Media Dimension of Each Hardwood Sleeper: 131x17x17cm Exclusive the Axe Attached Dimension of Complete Triptych: Variable Dimension of Complete Accumulated Installation: Variable To create the sensation of development of creative production, the process itself - especially for The Project “On the Way” I decided to create accumulated environment of “Quests, Encrypted Experiences, Methods and Remnants for Beauty under Attack” (Sculpture / Triptych) which makes a one big riddle itself based on real recent personal experiences. Accumulated Environmental Installation beside the result sculpture itself Consists and is full of; combinations of mixed media objects and specimens which stand for private reminders for several certain experienced situations and many printed or painted on wall quotations that can lead to decipher the puzzles. In that way I’m about to show the viewers as an exception my visual Stages and links to my Inner experiences, to read the environment and give them a chance for free guesses even if there will be impossible to come to exact conclusions.

The development of an artistic production, the process itself offers to the author surprises, accidents and unexpected moves, but those unique stages are only visible for the artist only. The spectator mostly gets to see final products of the creative work. Sometimes project studies are even more interesting than final result itself. Because at this stage artist creates his very first raw marks which are often spontanious, emotional and vital. ON THE WAY project is an attempt to create visual, audio, video, textual and environmental platform, which can allow to the viewer to experience the exceptional production practice. Exhibition will include stages of visual environments that was needed for final results consisting of; selected conceptual studies, sketches mixed media objects and projects in progress. Concept by: Konstantin Mindadze and Wato Tsereteli

Verb Session

"Verb Session" – 2012 - (Inspired from Richard Serra,"Verb List Compilation: Actions to Relate to Oneself" 1966-1967)

Side project is inspired from verb list compilation: actions to relate to oneself created in 1966-67 by Richard Serra in which he describes stages and it's complications of carbon steel production. In my session of approximately 300 verbs (which will be recorded as narrative, looped and represented as an Audio Installation / Sculpture) I describe my emotional experiences, barriers and technical stages as well of what I'm going or have been through during the production of my many other projects (installations or sculpture). Agreeing that art is about life and it's experiences, where lots of mistakes are involved as well - and daring to speak about your weaknesses publicly is the best and obvious way to make art in general, made me try to be honest in words as possible. 172

Intoxication and inspirational errors volume 1 Black Hole of Inspiration

Description of Projects

Press Release

Symbolism and Illuminations typical of early mannerism in today’s world of Globalization appear in different perspective in which time plays prominent role. Symbols and Ecstatic light experiences adding new values, - new realities reveal through different visualizations, new mediums, variety of combinations in new contexts of transformed conceptions. In my project presented environmental installations are about such global problems concerning timeless themes like; Time, thoughts of eternal life, inevitable death, religion and knowledge; Also about what is the reality of human in today’s world of overloaded information which in one hand is a source of infinite inspirations and also can lead to possible dangerous distress in which visual expressions of inner sensations might stop. (Though it’s impossible to express every feeling). But this is for temporary and might be illusionary too, because at these circumstances something is transforming. Transformed opinions, ideas etc. are expressed through new artifacts, methods, contents and interpretations. Presented 25 meter long installation consist of such timeless symbols (crucifixion, models of human skulls, sphere, circles, globe etc.) brought in new context. Beside it’s conceptual content important is used material and technique of execution; (Illuminated transparencies in Plexiglas light boxes, chromed anatomical plaster cast models, metal constructions, Rotating Sculpture, Video Animation Projections, Neon Glows, Flashing lights, split sound loops etc…) The core idea of project is to show influence of today’s developed science and digital technology on creative visual mind and its thoughts with the background of transience and virtualization. Also to underline the perils and barriers which contemporary artist is about to overcome no matter of where person might live.

Nowadays it is already clear for everybody that Postmodernism, as a multidisciplinary phenomenon, is bringing together completely controversial actions, theories and ideas. “Postmodernism is a theoretical cannibalism, it is legitimacy of the supermarket of ideas, in which different theoretical idioms are blended together” (Karlo Kacharava). At the time like this, on one hand it is easy to create an object of art. Even nothing can obtain the name of creation and especially in a time of such “chaos” it is quite difficult to determine a difference between a valuable artwork and a fake, low quality imitation. This issue is of highest importance, because in a time of current globalization, when the borders (informative, etc.) are only conditional, it is easy to imitate certain forms, ideas and thoughts. Single barrier which stands in a way of the creator is his or her self – a responsibility that constantly controls author’s scale of sincerity. Konstantin Mindadze’s project, presented on Artisterium, has this feature of responsibility towards idea, where exposure of the idea and his version of the theme are offered by contemporary artistic forms. Author travels in time and space, searches for the shapes of the theme and their combinations, and then forms them into metamorphosis with maximal power. “Tintorentto and Illuminations”, Kote’s project created for 54th Venice Biennale became the inspiration for the completed project “Intoxication and Inspirational Errors” (Volume I). Artworks, based on biblical themes of XVI century Renaissance and Mannerism are naturally underlined with Canonical Symbolism. While using modern technologies author gives a new context to symbolic elements, and he himself goes through a “life cycle”. Many things are recognizable: the symbolic image of the scull reminds the spectators of the world’s briefness, the black hole is somehow absorbing and then, reincarnated, spins into the world’s web with a new inspiration – death, life, vanity, faith, knowledge, eternity and again transformation with comprehension of infinity. And finally, the crucifixion – as a sign of the end and the beginning. Sign as a metaphor that accumulates achievements of modern technologies. Alexander Chavchavadze Museum’s historical wine factory was chosen as a venue in Tsinandali for the project where the objects will be put in consecutive order. The spectator will step by step apprehend each of them. In unity the objects turn into three-dimensional image. The spectator completely sinks into the darkness of the hall where the only sources of the light are illuminated installations. The actual space of the hall remains as a “breathing”, “thinking” area for the spectators, where the “magic” of the artwork transforms into impression and emotion. Intoxication and inspirational errors volume 2Eden lost

Since November when I first presented “Intoxications and Inspirational Errors” – Volume 1 – ‘Black Hole of Inspiration’ – which was mainly about information and its stress on background of globalization, which also had autobiographical content, I already had in mind banishing from Eden of our times and I was making the first raw sketches of few elements of its Volume 2. I rediscovered epical pieces like Dante’s ‘Devine Comedy’ and John Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’ – not to visualize it directly, but to transform some elements from it in new mediums – putting them in an actual contemporary new contexts. I found that William Blake’s timeless poem ‘Proverbs of Hell’ written in 1797 answered it all and was more than enough, ready and call it a main inspiration for some notable elements build especially for Volume 2. Production processes started from beginning of the year according to definitive visual studies and this is a result of how I metaphorically see ‘Lost Eden’ today and not only today. This is how I’m imagining it through the infinite time lapses of living kind from far past (very beginning or big-bang, whatever) to far future to infinity and vice-versa. With all its pluses and minuses. Development of science is very important and consumerism no matter how ironically foolish it may seem, gives us a comfort, which we all still more demand. Commercializing religions made me even transform Adam and Eve to be associated with brands. ‘Lost Eden’ contains irony of all our daily expanding needs and not protests against them. I think that on a background of such necessary progress the individuality (or even soul’s purity) might fade, however it is inevitable and impossible without future developments just like without sins. Proverbs of Hell by William Blake Exerpt From "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell" In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy. Drive your cart and your plow over the bones of the dead. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Prudence is a rich ugly old maid courted by Incapacity. He who desires but acts not, breeds pestilence. The cut worm forgives the plow. Dip him in the river who loves water. A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees. He whose face gives no light, shall never become a star. Eternity is in love with the productions of time. The busy bee has no time for sorrow. The hours of folly are measur'd by the clock, but of wisdom: no clock can measure. All wholsom food is caught without a net or a trap. Bring out number weight & measure in a year of dearth. No bird soars too high, if he soars with his own wings. A dead body, revenges not injuries. The most sublime act is to set another before you. If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise. Folly is the cloke of knavery. Shame is Prides cloke. ~ Prisons are built with stones of Law, Brothels with bricks of Religion. The pride of the peacock is the glory of God. The lust of the goat is the bounty of God. The wrath of the lion is the wisdom of God. The nakedness of woman is the work of God. Excess of sorrow laughs. Excess of joy weeps. The roaring of lions, the howling of wolves, the raging of the stormy sea, and the destructive sword, are portions of eternity too great for the eye of man. The fox condemns the trap, not himself. Joys impregnate. Sorrows bring forth. Let man wear the fell of the lion, woman the fleece of the sheep. The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship. The selfish smiling fool, & the sullen frowning fool, shall be both thought wise, that they may be a rod. What is now proved was once, only imagin'd. The rat, the mouse, the fox, the rabbit: watch the roots; the lion, the tyger, the horse, the elephant, watch the fruits. The cistern contains; the fountain overflows. One thought, fills immensity. Always be ready to speak your mind, and a base man will avoid you. Every thing possible to be believ'd is an image of truth. The eagle never lost so much time, as when he submitted to learn of the crow. ~ The fox provides for himself, but God provides for the lion. Think in the morning. Act in the noon. Eat in the evening. Sleep in the night. He who has suffer'd you to impose on him knows you. As the plow follows words, so God rewards prayers. The tygers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction. Expect poison from the standing water. You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. Listen to the fools reproach! it is a kingly title! The eyes of fire, the nostrils of air, the mouth of water, the beard of earth. The weak in courage is strong in cunning. The apple tree never asks the beech how he shall grow, nor the lion, the horse, how he shall take his prey. The thankful reciever bears a plentiful harvest. If others had not been foolish, we should be so. The soul of sweet delight, can never be defil'd. When thou seest an Eagle, thou seest a portion of Genius, lift up thy head! As the catterpiller chooses the fairest leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest lays his curse on the fairest joys. To create a little flower is the labour of ages. Damn, braces: Bless relaxes. The best wine is the oldest, the best water the newest. Prayers plow not! Praises reap not! Joys laugh not! Sorrows weep not! ~ The head Sublime, the heart Pathos, the genitals Beauty, the hands & feet Proportion. As the air to a bird of the sea to a fish, so is contempt to the contemptible. The crow wish'd every thing was black, the owl, that every thing was white. Exuberance is Beauty. If the lion was advised by the fox, he would be cunning. Improvement makes strait roads, but the crooked roads without Improvement, are roads of Genius. Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires. Where man is not nature is barren. Truth can never be told so as to be understood, and not be believ'd. Enough! or Too much!
