Welcome

from the Deputy Head of Secondary (overseeing Boarding)

Here at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, the boarders constitute the very heartbeat of our school and indeed, the atmosphere that pervades is richer for the presence of our boarding community. While offering a traditional British boarding school model in a Malaysian setting, we are forward thinking in our approach, and while we could never replace the love and care of a student’s home, our boarding houses offer experiences, memories and friendships that are enhanced by the boarding environment. Dedicated house staff are focused on creating a ‘second home’ for our students, making sure our boarding houses are a place of comfort, support and belonging for all who live there.

Our holistic approach to education is rooted in the belief that we should be developing students beyond the bounds of the classroom, allowing them to grow and to prepare for all the opportunities and challenges of life beyond school.

We believe happy students will be successful ones, and therefore we focus on enriching all aspects of our students’ lives, aiding them in their development into confident and well-rounded young adults and global citizens.

Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar is an amazing school, full of happy students who benefit from our diverse pool of teaching experience and the abundance of facilities that sit within our 80-acre site. We are extremely proud of the international boarding provision we provide and are confident that our students are ready to ‘Make it’ in the ever changing global world that awaits them when they leave.

Welcome & Introduction from

the Houseparent of Nadzaruddin

I am Mr Kobus Janse van Rensburg, and I am honored to have been the Houseparent of Nadzaruddin House for the past six years. It has been a truly rewarding experience, and I continue to enjoy every day in this role. It’s a role which I consider to be extremely important and one with a great responsibility for the personal development of the boys. I am currently teaching Resistant Materials and oversee a number of CCAs, including Rugby which I am very passionate about.

I have three boys of my own and I am very proud of them, together with my lovely wife Hayley who is teaching in the Primary School. We have been working in boarding for over 10 years. Having three children, I believe I have a good understanding of the stages students go through during adolescence and the support they need to reach their full potential.

Growing up in South Africa taught me to treat others with tolerance, patience and respect. As a family we have been fortunate enough to have traveled all over the world, learning and respecting every new culture and social group we have come across.

I strive to be a Houseparent who is a good listener, empathetic, helping children to overcome difficult situations, caring and ensuring their well-being, persuasive and committed to the development of each student. I want Nadzaruddin to be a happy home where students from different walks of life and age groups can work together effectively. The boys are encouraged to study hard while also participating in the many activities at KTJ from CCAs to House Competitions.

My aim is to ensure that every Nadza boy graduates from KTJ as a confident young man ready for life outside school with excellent skills, adaptability, resilience, showcasing good manners and values, while having respect for others.

Welcome

from the House Captain

Hi! My name is Moritz Heinrichs, and I am honored to be appointed as Nadzaruddin’s House Captain for 2024/2025! I joined KTJ last year as a Form 1 student and have embraced the vibrant community here. In my downtime, I enjoy sports like swimming and basketball. As a boarding student, I participate in a wide range of sports and co-curricular activities, including yoga and the Law Society, just to name a few.

Nadzaruddin has become my second home, largely thanks to our supportive houseparent, Mr. Rensburg. Here, we are provided with a safe and nurturing environment to develop our independent living skills, rather than being thrust into adulthood unprepared. This experience also encourages us to step out of our comfort zones, which is essential for personal growth. Although I have experienced bouts of homesickness, my Nadzaruddin housemates and the understanding house staff have always been there to support and comfort me.

I am excited about the year ahead and hope we will be crowned House champions! My goal is to bring back more silverware and help Nadzaruddin reach its fullest potential. I look forward to meeting all of you and making this an extraordinary year together.

Nadzaruddin House Staff

Hello! I am Aziz Seti, a Malay language teacher and a House Tutor for Nadzaruddin. As a House Tutor, I try to give boarders a home-away-from-home experience, where they are cared for and live positively. The boarding team always monitors the academic progress of our students very carefully and also looks after their well-being so they can be happy, healthy and feel fully part of our KTJ community. I have a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from UiTM Shah Alam. I used to work as an entertainment journalist at one of the TV stations in Kuala Lumpur before continuing my career at Malaysia Airline Berhad. My deep interest in education led me to become a teacher in two international schools before placing myself at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar.
