Welcome

from the Deputy Head of Secondary (overseeing Boarding)

Here at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, the boarders constitute the very heartbeat of our school and indeed, the atmosphere that pervades is richer for the presence of our boarding community. While offering a traditional British boarding school model in a Malaysian setting, we are forward thinking in our approach, and while we could never replace the love and care of a student’s home, our boarding houses offer experiences, memories and friendships that are enhanced by the boarding environment. Dedicated house staff are focused on creating a ‘second home’ for our students, making sure our boarding houses are a place of comfort, support and belonging for all who live there.

Our holistic approach to education is rooted in the belief that we should be developing students beyond the bounds of the classroom, allowing them to grow and to prepare for all the opportunities and challenges of life beyond school.

We believe happy students will be successful ones, and therefore we focus on enriching all aspects of our students’ lives, aiding them in their development into confident and well-rounded young adults and global citizens.

Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar is an amazing school, full of happy students who benefit from our diverse pool of teaching experience and the abundance of facilities that sit within our 80-acre site. We are extremely proud of the international boarding provision we provide and are confident that our students are ready to ‘Make it’ in the ever changing global world that awaits them when they leave.

Welcome & Introduction from the Houseparent of Jawahir

Welcome to Jawahir!

My name is Mrs Domi and I have been Jawahir’s Houseparent since 2019. I am from Marseille, France and I have been teaching French at KTJ since 2016. I am married to Mr. Frost who is the Events and Educational Visits Coordinator at school, and we have a daughter who’s studying here too.

I am thoroughly enjoying my time in Malaysia; discovering the beautiful beaches of the East Coast, visiting the many paradisiac islands and eating the amazing Malaysian food! In my free time I like swimming, reading, and learning more about the different cultures in Asia.

Jawahir House was the first girls’ house created at KTJ. We have more than 25 years of experience of taking care, supporting and nurturing both boarding and day-boarding girls in our “home”; we are very much looking forward to meeting you!

Our house spirit is strong and we are very keen to see what talent and skills you can bring to the mix, everyone has something special to offer! There will be many opportunities for you to join; activities such as House Singing, Inter-House Football competition, House Drama, and House Quiz, to name a few!

Our mascot is the dolphin and our colour is purple. Jawahir will soon become your extended family and your home away from home! See you very soon!

Welcome from the House Captain Team

Hello incoming Jawa girls! We are so excited to be welcoming you to our big purple family. We are Isabel, Nadia, and Suki, your 2024/25 House Captains! Your time at KTJ will be super fun and enriching, but undoubtedly busy and trying, and we as House Captains are here to help you navigate your way through it.

Isabel is our go-to athlete, be it volleyball or rugby, she is always there to lead house sport training sessions. Although, she does like a sweet treat and you can often find her at Cafe Diem!

For the bookworms and chatterboxes, Nadia is always ready to talk with you for hours on end on just about anything (bonus if you’re a literature student!), from books and movies to deep friendship conversations.

Suki is Jawahir’s snack queen, she will never let you go hungry, no matter the time of day! Her snack drawer is always open, just as her door is to conversation and lots of laughter!

Joining us at KTJ and Jawahir will mark for you the beginning of life-long friendships and community, anywhere from KL to London, there will always be a friendly KTJ face for you to lean on. We are super excited to get to know each of you and welcome you to Jawahir as your House Captains!

Salam Sejahtera! My name is Shafizah Abdul Rahim, I am excited to join Jawahir as a House Tutor this year. Previously, I was an Art Teacher in KTJ in 2010. It brings me immense joy to return to this esteemed school even after a remarkable span of 13 years. I am passionate about education and helping students reach their full potential. In my free time, I enjoy painting, coaching and cooking. I believe that having a wellrounded life is important for students, and I encourage them to pursue their passions and interests outside of their academic studies. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and I am excited for the year ahead. Jawa girls, see you soon!

Jawahir Visiting Tutor

Apa Khabar! I am Miss Ain. I am excited to take on the role of Jawahir House Coordinator this year. I joined KTJ in October 2020 as a receptionist, where I gained valuable experience interacting with students, parents and staff on a daily basis. In January 2022, I transitioned into a matron role within the boarding house, allowing me to work more closely with the boarding students, I am well-equipped to support our boarding students in this new capacity. During my time as a matron, I developed strong relationships with the students and a deep understanding of their needs and experiences in boarding. I am looking forward to working even more closely with the Jawahir students as the House Coordinator. I am committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive and enriching environment for all students in Jawahir House. See you soon!
