Welcome Information 2023-2024

Welcome from the Deputy Head of Secondary (overseeing Boarding)

Here at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, the boarders constitute the very heartbeat of our school and indeed, the atmosphere that pervades is richer for the presence of our boarding community. While offering a traditional British boarding school model in a Malaysian setting, we are forward thinking in our approach, and while we could never replace the love and care of a student’s home, our boarding houses offer experiences, memories and friendships that are enhanced by the boarding environment. Dedicated house staff are focused on creating a ‘second home’ for our students, making sure our boarding houses are a place of comfort, support and belonging for all who live there.

Our holistic approach to education is rooted in the belief that we should be developing students beyond the bounds of the classroom, allowing them to grow and to prepare for all the opportunities and challenges of life beyond school.

We believe happy students will be successful ones, and therefore we focus on enriching all aspects of our students’ lives, aiding them in their development into confident and well-rounded young adults and global citizens.

Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar is an amazing school, full of happy students who benefit from our diverse pool of teaching experience and the abundance of facilities that sit within our 80-acre site. We are extremely proud of the international boarding provision we provide and are confident that our students are ready to ‘Make it’ in the ever changing global world that awaits them when they leave.

Welcome & Introduction

from the Houseparent of Jawahir

Welcome to Jawahir!

My name is Mrs Domi and I have been Jawahir’s Houseparent since 2019. I am from Marseille, France and I have been teaching French at KTJ since 2016. I am married to Mr. Frost who is the Events and Educational Visits Coordinator at school, and we have a daughter who’s studying here too.

I am thoroughly enjoying my time in Malaysia; discovering the beautiful beaches of the East Coast, visiting the many paradisiac islands and eating the amazing Malaysian food! In my free time I like swimming, reading, and learning more about the different cultures in Asia.

Jawahir House was the first girls’ house created at KTJ. We have more than 25 years of experience of taking care, supporting and nurturing both boarding and day-boarding girls in our “home”; we are very much looking forward to meeting you!

Our house spirit is strong and we are very keen to see what talent and skills you can bring to the mix, everyone has something special to offer! There will be many opportunities for you to join; activities such as House Singing, Inter-House Football competition, House Drama, and House Quiz, to name a few!

Our mascot is the dolphin and our colour is purple. Jawahir will soon become your extended family and your home away from home! See you very soon!

Welcome from the House Captain Team

Hey there, welcome to Jawahir house!! I’m Shir-Ning and I am the 2023/2024 Jawahir House Captain! Despite only having joined KTJ last academic year, I can confidently say that boarding (and Jawahir of course) has been the best experience I have received in my 18 years of living. As an avid tennis player, I am always willing and open to any requests to have a hit on the court! Other times, you can always find me in the House or at Cafe Diem with my favourite banana milkshakes! Adapting to a new environment will always seem intimidating at first, but I have no doubt that our house will make you feel welcome and be the place of the most memorable moments that you will ever have. From playing pool to having a run around the campus or studying together, we Jawa girls will ensure that your KTJ experience is nothing short of amazing. I am so excited to get to know all of you, and I look forward to welcoming you to Jawahir this academic year as your house captain!

Jawahir House Staff

Hi, apa khabar? I am Miss Preti and I am a class teacher and resident tutor in Jawahir. I have been a tutor in Jawahir since 2019. I am a through and through Malaysian and city bug, who enjoys food, photography and films! I lived in England for a while when I was younger, in a charming little town called Exeter. I love being in Jawahir as the house is full of laughter, character and house spirit from the wonderful Jawa girls and house staff. One of my favourite things to do in Jawahir is making conversation with the girls about school, life and academics. When I am not in Jawahir, I spend most of my time in KTJ Primary teaching the lovely children there. I hope to get to know you all soon!

Salam Sejahtera! My name is Shafizah Abdul Rahim, I am excited to join Jawahir as a House Tutor this year. Previously, I was an Art Teacher in KTJ in 2010. In my free time, I enjoy painting, coaching and cooking. I believe that having a wellrounded life is important for students, and I encourage them to pursue their passions and interests outside of their academic studies. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and I am excited for the year ahead. Jawa girls, see you soon!
