Term 2 January 2025

Term 2 January 2025
1.What is a CCA?
A CCA stands for Co Curricular Activity. A CCA provides you with an opportunity to enrich your learning and experience here at KTJ.
4.How many should I do?
Students in Forms 1 & 2 need to do at least two sports CCAs and one non-sport activity per week. You can do more, just as long as it doesn’t interfere with your studies.
Students in Form 3 and above are required to do at least two a week but again, can do more. Please remember, you cannot change your CCAs, you have to stick with your first choices.
2. What time do CCAs take place?
CCA’s are held Monday- Saturday. There are three sessions each day:
1st session: 7:00am-7:45am
2nd session: 8:00am-8:45am 3rd session: 4:30pm-5:30pm
There are also training sessions on certain weekday and Saturday mornings.
3. How can I play on a team?
Most of the teams will be selected from the students who participate in the relevant CCAs. Please speak to any of the PE staff about competitions and leagues.
5.What are the benefits of doing CCAs?
Meet new people! Allows you to take your mind off academic work. Gives you the chance to socialise with your friends. You can try out new activities. Practice the sports that you already love.
KTJ has an extensive programme of Co-curricular activities (CCAs). With over 100 to choose from, our students are able to discover lifelong interests and develop essential skills to help them ‘Make It’.
Participation in CCAs help students to make friends, develop new skills, improve their time management, become part of a team, learn the importance of helping other people and develop their leadership skills, amongst many other things.
CCAs are a central part of life at KTJ. KTJ’s mission is to provide a ‘holistic education’, meaning that we expect our students to extend their learning beyond the classroom. There are a wide range of CCAs on offer, and students are encouraged to get fully involved in them.
CCAs cover a wide range of areas, including sports, music, art, drama, public speaking, academic enrichment, hobbies and charitable and community service.
All CCAs are led by teachers and other members of staff, often tapping into particular passions or areas of expertise. Some involve external, visiting teachers and coaches who provide expertise in specialist areas.
Most CCAs are included within the fees, though there is an additional charge for some. Where this is the case, parents will be alerted to the fact and asked to agree before their child commits to the CCA.
A Co-Curricular Activity [CCA] is an activity that falls outside of the normal realm of the curriculum of the school and is performed out of academic hours or at the weekend.
The objective of CCAs is to encourage the holistic growth of students and allow teachers to develop their professional relationships with students outside of a classroom environment in an enjoyable and fulfilling activity.
CCAs should be a fun and rewarding experience for both students and teachers alike, where both groups have the ability to positively develop skills.
CCAs may be open to all students or to specific groups – depending on the activity. They should not be restricted to a single student, although there may be circumstances when only one participates due to exceptional conditions.
Students can use CCAs to develop existing skills or interests and to explore new activities.
There are three time periods for CCAs –term 1, term 2 and term 3.
Most CCAs will have minimum and maximum numbers for attendance. Those falling below the minimum number may be cancelled after consultation with the students and supervisor.
Students need to be punctual and attend the CCA they have applied for.
Once the CCA programme has started you will not be allowed to change your activities, so please choose carefully!
Participants need to arrive appropriately clothed for the activity and with the correct equipment (if required).
CCAs are an opportunity for students to encourage and assist their peers.
If a student is unable to attend they are required to email the supervising teacher prior to the class taking place and provide a valid reason.
CCAs that are paid for are billed for the number of sessions that are offered. If you miss one then your parent will still be charged.
CCAs that are billed:
Parents will receive an email with a link to a Google Form, the latter of which is required to be returned no later than one week after the CCA fair.
If the form is not returned we will assume parents do not wish their child to participate in the paid for activity. Students will need to commit to a billed activity for the whole term and the charge will reflect this number of sessions. Failure to attend a session does not mean the payment is waived.
Outdoor CCAs must not continue when the lightning siren has sounded. A twenty-minute rule will apply: if the lightning alarm is still on twenty minutes after the start of the session, then it will be cancelled.
Therefore, the earliest session one will be cancelled is 16:20 and for the second 17:20. If session one is cancelled there is not an automatic assumption that session two will also be lost; a decision needs to be left open until session two is due to start in case the situation changes.
Peer to Peer Supports - (U9)
We cater for a broad spectrum of talents and interests. Our excellent facilities provide students with an opportunity to participate in a vast array of after-school activities that range from sports clubs to learning an instrument to building robots.

Who will enjoy this CCA?
This CCA is offered as a class for students who wish to learn how to play the guitar, regardless of music background, training or experience level. The class is designed so students may participate in guitar on a termly or yearly basis.
During the CCA you will:
Learn skills through both individual playing and practice as well as in a group setting through the guitar ensemble.
Cover basic and intermediate chords, including open and barre chords. Students will also learn basic scale patterns for melodic content.
Learn basic maintenance of the guitar including: changing strings, perfect tuning as well as choosing equipment and group playing (working in the context of a band).
Guitar ensembles like LAGQ and Los Romeros have proven that groups of only guitar can find a wide audience. What draws listeners to these groups? One of the main attraction of the guitar is its variety of tone colours including sound effects such as harmonics, palm mute and percussion. In the ensemble context, the guitar’s tone colour possibilities are multiplied and combined with increased contrapuntal ability. You will experience all of these later.
Usually at the end of every term, the guitar ensemble will be asked to perform few numbers in the school concert.
Benefits?
Musical Development - The guitar ensemble provides an opportunity for guitarist to make music with others, allowing them to improve musical skills like sight-reading, playing in tempo and collaborating in shaping an interpretation.
Social Interaction - The ensemble also allows guitarists to enjoy camaraderie and social interaction with those who share their interest and passion in the guitar. This is frequently attractive to students and amateurs (as well as professionals).
Opportunities - The group will perform at various school concerts, biennial KTJ Guitar Festival as well as participate in trips such as Thailand International Guitar Festival, Philippine International Guitar Festival & Competition etc.
Ensemble music scores will be provided at no cost to the students and will be tailored to the skill level of the individual.

Students must have their own guitar (classical or acoustic only) and must purchase a method book provided through the class.
Students are also needed to have their own foot stool, capo and picks (acoustic only) and own cable for plugged-in guitars.
