The consecrated life is not a “specialty” in the Church, nor does it exist for the sake of some limited function. The consecrated person’s configuration to Christ through a literal embrace of poverty, chastity and obedience illumines the vocation of all Christians. It is a flesh-and-blood reminder of God’s primacy over all things, an expression of the love that animates the entire Church and makes her “the fullness of him who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:22).
