Mazarine Energy is a private, subsurface, oil and gas exploration and production company.

Mazarine Energy focuses on low risk, cost effective, and short cycle exploration, appraisal and development opportunities, with robust project economics. As an agile company it is able to mobilize and allocate the right resources at the right time.

Mazarine Energy was founded in 2013 by Edward van Kersbergen, with Ramphastos Investments as its founding investor, and is currently headquartered in the Hague.

Ramphastos Investments was established in 1994 by passionate entrepreneur Marcel Boekhoorn - an ex-Deloitte accountant and, at the time, the youngest Deloitte partner in The Netherlands.

After 26 year, Boekhoorn is still the driving force behind Ramphastos Investments, which is rapidly expanding its geographic and sectoral footprint.

A previous deal with similar characteristics, earned Marcel Boekhoorn the reputation of being an entrepreneurial investor with the Dutch public. In 2005, Ramphastos acquired majority shares in Telfort, a Dutch mobile telecom provider.

Boekhoorn tripled Telfort’s profits, from €50 million to €150 million, in just 8 months. This was achieved through stringent cost control and generating a robust strategy for revenue growth.

One month later Telfort was sold to market leader KPN for over €1 billion, with roughly €500 million in profit.

In its 26 years of existence, Ramphastos has successfully seeded and exited multiple startups, launched IPOs, completed de-listings and achieved outsized average returns on investment.

According to Corné Melissen, a partner at Ramphastos and board member of Mazarine Energy, there is no better match between investor and company than that of Ramphastos and Mazarine. “On a monthly basis we receive countless business plans. When a topic interests us, we invite someone to pitch the idea to us. If we don’t understand it within a few minutes, then we reject it - the reason being that, if we don’t understand it, the market won’t either.”

In the case of Mazarine, it was instantly clear that the energy company had a concept with massive potential. “Edward is an inspired entrepreneur with a background in the oil-industry. Thus, when he approached us with an idea, we were immediately interested. In 2013, Mazarine’s Tunisian subsidiary obtained the right to operate in central Tunisia. Within 18 months of receiving the permit, it acquired 3D seismic data and drilled two wells - both of which discovered hydrocarbons and were successfully tested at commercial rates. Mazarine Energy, which secured an additional investor in the Carlyle Group in 2016, has grown to be one of the largest license holders in Tunisia. The company also has operations in Romania, and is exploring further international expansion. Last summer, Mazarine announced that they are extending their activities into the realm of renewable energy, having been selected by the Tunisian government to develop a 10MWP solar project as part of a third round of solar tendering. “This development fits excellently with the challenges of our time”, says Corné Melissen, “we think that companies such as Mazarine Energy can deliver valuable contributions to the increasingly salient debates around energy. As Ramphastos we are pleased that we are able to be involved in that challenging debate and that we can work closely with Edward and his team.”

Purposes of Merger and Acquisition: Industrial Transformation and Upgrading Growth of an enterprise is not limited to expansion of production capacity or sales. Transformation and upgrading of an enterprise, such as horizontal merger through strategic alliance or vertical merger, or cutting businesses suffering losses in the enterprise and acquiring departments of other enterprises, is the necessary path for enterprise growth and industrial upgrading or transformation.

The commercial purposes which an enterprise expects to achieve through merger and acquisition are referred to as purposes of merger and acquisition.

Purposes of merger and acquisition may include the following: in terms of horizontal merger, enterprises should remove their weaknesses in the industry they belong to, increase market share, reduce costs and improve efficiency, so as to form economies of scale and enhance competitiveness; enterprises can consolidate supply sources and develop markets through vertical merger; in split-up, enterprises can solve the conflict and contradiction between the OEM and brand companies or achieve the professional division of labor. In a nutshell, merger and acquisition is a process of “you throwing and me picking, and each taking what it needs”. Through this process of merger and acquisition, different types and levels of channel,

market expansion, brand acquisition, key technology or key customers can be obtained.

In the past, the motivation of business operators to actively participate in merger and acquisition was not high. However, as time goes by, the concepts of economies of scale, specialization and corporate synergy have emerged, and the mentality of business operators has changed. With the global competition heating up and Mainland China’s rising strongly, it is a trend to expand the business territory by merger and acquisition. Moreover, unsolicited (hostile) takeover has become more popular in recent years.

Even if an enterprise wants to stick to its own business territory, it also needs to face the threat of unsolicited (hostile) takeover by domestic and foreign companies.

Therefore, enterprises cannot escape passively, but must face actively the oncoming of merger and acquisition. Common defenses against unsolicited (hostile) takeover, such as bringing in a white knight or merging with another enterprise, are also merger and acquisition in their nature, but they are more about defense than growth.

In addition, under intense competition, it is common for enterprises to face financial difficulties due to product, technology, market or sales obstacles.

In order to survive, the management team has responsibility to seek the

2020 – retrospective view

Full house refurbishment and extensions with alterations.

This house had small rooms blocking views of the garden from the kitchen and the rooms on the ground floor did not allow any flow resulting is the house feeling smaller than it was. Alice Poole redesigned the space by adding small extensions to link the spaces and open up the back of the ground floor onto the garden. Alice Poole s designed all the fitted furniture including a double aspect niche display unit in the living room.

2020 was a challenging year for everyone but, as we are part of the construction industry, we were able to continue working on our projects throughout 2020 despite the difficulties imposed by lockdowns which inevitably affected supplies and progress of projects on site.

Awards

Alice Poole Architects have continued to win Awards throughout 2020.

We were finalists in 3 categories of the National Building and Construction Awards 2020: Architectural Designer of the Year, Architect of the Year (Small Project), and the Women in Construction Award. However, due to Covid restrictions, the Awards ceremony has now been delayed several times and is now carried through to 2021.

Projects

Many clients are embracing colour and pattern, with wallpaper, curtains and pendants lights seeing a resurgence. This is also giving us the chance to incorporate our signature stained glass to give the special individual touch to our projects. We always work with our clients to achieve solutions and designs that suit their individual personalities and preferences but also present our own ideas to those who prefer us to give a full design solution.

Replacement of an unsatisfactory glass box with a new extension designed as a modern take on an orangery, together with re-planning and alterations to the lower ground floor, including a new kitchen and new joinery, all designed by Alice Poole.

The project involved the total refurbishment of a house that had previously been converted into 5 flats and extended in an unsympathetic manner. Alice Poole completely redesigned and replanned the property, added a studio extension to be used as a kitchen/ dining area and relocated the main entrance, as well as carrying out a total refurbishment.

BioLingus: Disrupting Drug Delivery BioLingus, a privately owned Swiss biotech company, is spearheading the development of non-invasive delivery of biological drugs, making oral versions of drugs that are typically taken by injection. This revolutionary technology is a breakthrough innovation in for instance treatments of diabetes and inflammatory diseases, but also a social innovation for third world countries, enabling the development of novel low-cost oral vaccines or diabetes products. Yves Decadt, CEO of BioLingus in Switzerland, offers us perspective on the historical context in which his company is operating.

BioLingus focuses on the development of products for treatment of metabolic diseases and various immuno-therapies. The firm’s current work explores the development of oral (sublingual) delivery of peptides and proteins for chronic diseases and immuno-therapy via its innovative technology.

Yves discusses how the firm is taking a natural approach to drug developments, drawing on nature’s unique processes to find previously undiscovered solutions that could help millions of patients around the world.

“Focusing on natural solutions to modern problems, at BioLingus we have worked hard to use nature as a tool to create something truly unique and visionary. The seeds of plants contain a high concentration of proteins, which have to survive and remain intact for years, sometimes in extreme conditions of temperature, moisture or drought etc.

The most extreme example is the sacred lotus plant, in which seeds are preserved intact over 1000 years, meaning the proteins inside are remaining stable and bioactive for such a long period. The BioLingus Technology is mimicking some of these mechanisms, and BioLingus has through advanced ”bio-engineering”

been able to come up with a way to preserve and stabilize proteins for a very long time at room temperature.

Recently, BioLingus has also developed a ’liquid’ formulation, which is very effective for individual dose adjustments.”

This unusual formulation is designed for ease of administration and has the potential to treat a myriad of different health conditions, as Yves is keen to highlight.

“One key benefit of sublingual delivery is ease of administration. The sublingual area is not a very common, but a very good place to deliver drugs. It has a thin layer of epithelial cells and a strong blood flow, which promotes quick uptake in the body. It is also a very good place to deliver immuno-active drugs, because of the presence of mucosal immune receptor cells.”

“This ease of administration will allow for expansion into more ’mild’ uses.

For instance, our oral diabetes treatments will be preferentially used in related indications such as prediabetes, obesity and ’fatty liver’ disease. While there are more than 400 million diabetes patients in the world, there are more than 1.5 billion obesity patients in the world, which offers us many potential users.”

“Additionally, our technology will enable a cost reduction for payors (governments) and patients, which will help make drugs more accessible to low-income patients”, as Yves explains.

“In general, biological drugs are very expensive and as such the health economic impact of our technology is that, for some of those drugs, we may enable more lowcost solutions to administer them. For other drugs, especially in the immunology space, we might increase the efficacy and/or safety, in addition to improving the convenience.”

“In particular for third-world countries, organizations like the WHO are calling this ‘broadening access’ : our technology can give more people access to medicines they may otherwise not have access to.”

Ultimately, BioLingus has a unique and proprietary technology in the strong and growing market of the biologicals. Looking ahead, the firm will leverage this solution to expand its service offering and grow in this burgeoning market, as Yves is proud to conclude.

Friede & Associates is a fourth generation construction company that traces its beginning to the early 1900s.

Operating for four generations under the family name has been a source of pride for our firm, and has also been the driving force in our achievement of quality and customer satisfaction. We are constantly reminded of this each time a client comes back to us to assist them with a new project.

We have not had an OSHA citation since 1979. We have only had one lost time accident and went more than a dozen years between injuries since 2002. With the increase of OSHA citations nationwide, this is no small statement.

We’ve managed this by having a sound safety plan for each project and by putting that plan into action, both for our own employees, as well as for all of our subcontractors.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) As a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin, Friede & Associates regularly participates in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program. Established in 1989 by ABC National, STEP was created to provide an organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs for the commercial construction industry.

WHAT IS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS)?

MS is a chronic, unpredictable autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves. Surrounding and protecting the nerve fibers of the CNS is a fatty tissue called myelin, which helps nerve fibers conduct electrical impulses. In MS, myelin is lost in multiple areas, leaving scar tissue called sclerosis. These damaged areas are also known as plaques or lesions. Sometimes the nerve fiber itself is damaged or broken. Myelin not only protects nerve fibers, but makes their job possible. When myelin or the nerve fiber is destroyed or damaged, the ability of the nerves to conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain is disrupted, and this produces the various symptoms of MS. MS is not contagious and is not directly inherited. People with MS can expect one of four clinical courses of disease, each of which might be mild, moderate, or severe.

OCEANIA Best Industrial Heat Reflective Coatings Provider 2021

In today’s Climate environment, people are more aware of the issues that such climate changes are making to their lives. There are the ever increasing, energy costs in keeping warm in the cold months, and cool in the warm months.

Maintenance & Capital costs associated with equipment used for such purposes, and more so for the Commercial & Government sectors.

Solacoat Heat Reflective coatings was invented to mitigate such areas. Solacoat’s story started in the harsh arid environment of Central Australia in the mid 1980’s, in a place they call “Alice Springs”. Even in the mid 80’s Energy costs in this part of the world were high, especially Diesel generated power units, which was, and still is used in the outback to run the large farming properties, along with the cooling systems during the extreme summer months, which can reach as high as 50°C. All external substrates that are exposed to the sun’s rays during the summer months will experience very high absorption of such, which will then turn into radiant heat, and the largest area’s to be exposed and generate the radiant heat is the roof and Westerly walls. In addition, these areas also absorb UV rays from the sun, which rays attack the colour pigment of the roof if painted, “including our skin”, which is the main cause of what is known as “Chalking” where the paint colour has started to turn to powder. Once this starts to occur, all that is left is the protective primer before corrosion starts.

Some people believe that having an uncoated steel roof will provide less absorption of the sun’s rays than a coated roof, as it will reflect those rays, however, this is not correct, as within a few hours of extreme exposure, the surface then becomes a “heat conductor”.

Colour plays a big part in the amount of the sun’s rays that is absorb by the substrate. Light colours will absorb less of the visible and near visible rays which create the radiant heat, where dark colours will absorb much more.

However, all colours will absorb the maximum UV rays, unless there is an incorporated UV Inhibitor. In the early days of Solacoat, people were skeptical of such coatings, as they could not work-out how a coating could actually deliver a better performance than Standard coatings that are applied to pre-coated roofing material, however, they do not usually incorporate the technology that goes into such heat reflective coatings as Solacoat does. This mindset has decreased substantially over the years, as it is now well accepted that such coatings do deliver and perform longer & much better than conventional coatings, and many Governments now require such coatings be applied to not only existing buildings, but all new buildings, such is the case in Bahrain.

In addition, we provide Marine topcoats for the harsh coastal environments, and specialty coatings for the likes of Sea containers, rail tracks, & stainless steel. Solacoat has been applied by a number of Rail Authorities to mitigate against Rail Buckling with great success.

Such heat reflective coatings must comply with the International Standards, and have been tested by an accredited laboratory in making their claims of performance.
