Rockdale Ramblin Run

The annual run3 competition kicked off on April 11 with the Rockdale Ramblin Run, the first of three races put on by the Joliet Park District. This race, billed as the “toughest 10K in the Midwest,” takes runners through Rockdale and Joliet with plenty of hills to keep things interesting. Formerly known as The Race That’s Good For Life, the 34th annual Good Life Race once again brought stiff competition to Oak Park. In both the men’s and women’s races, less than one minute separated the first and fifth place finishers at the event. The run, known for featuring a fast course, was also the second race on this year’s CARA Runners Choice Circuit.

Predicted rain held off and made for a great day of racing at the Morton Arboretum on April 19. Runners negotiated the hills and turned in fast times, with Damian Bednorz winning it all in 35:37 and Alicia Rafferty taking the women’s title in 39:41.
Runners came to Montrose Harbor to put their winter training to the test at the Chicago Area Runner’s Association’s annual Lakefront 10 Miler. Athletes tackled Cricket Hill and a stiff headwind for the last four miles of the race, but even under those conditions, Kevin Oliver, last year’s second place finisher, turned in a 53:13 to win the race. Columba Montes won the women’s division in 1:02:10.
