DORCHESTER, DORSET BREWERY SQUARE DEVELOPMENTS £27 MILLIONS DESIGN AND BUILD WITH CONSULTANT SWITCH DECEMBER, 2013 MAY, 2014

Project brief : Phase 2B forms part of the overall Brewery Square Development masterplan, comprised of 137 apartments in Dorchester. The development is split between 5 buildings over 9 floors: Barley Building, Cooperage, Copper Crescent, Hop House and Keg Store and includes leisure and retail spaces throughout. Since the main contractor was selected, the progression of the project included Value Engineering (VE) to reduce the cost of the building. As part of this exercise, the elevations had to be altered and new materials specified. Internally, all plan layouts were modulated (i.e all lift shafts to be the same size etc.) and the structure was revised to minimise the building’s overall budget. Alterations also included the transformation of a Duplex Scheme on Copper Crescent and Barely Building to a Non-Duplex Scheme, also to contribute to cost reductions.

Mortar Specification: CPI - M2ALX000 Southampton natural motar using sand from the Brickworth Quarry near Romsey. It contains no colour pigments (M6 Natural Mortar).

Mortar is to be used site-wide except for where using Ibstock Staffordshire Slate Blue Bricks (Motar to be Dark Grey/Black colour - CPI colour TBC).

Project brief : Fox Hill Project is a 1.5 ‘Form Entry’ primary school with a construction budget of approximately £3 million. The site slopes significantly from north to south with the existing school building occupying the lower plateau with grass playing fields on the higher plateau. A new single storey school will be constructed with one wing for Year 1 and 2 the halls and learning and resource centre in the T-junction. The facades consist of a brick plinth up to ground floor window sill and metal-faced insulated panels above. It has a flat roof.

Project brief : Prince Edwards is a 2 ‘Form Entry’ primary school with a construction budget of approximately £3.5 million. The site is adjacent to the existing school which slopes significantly from West to East and includes a public right of way, which will be diverted as part of the scheme. The school is a two-storey building with early year classes on the ground floor and Key Stage 1 and 2 classes on the upper floor. The facades comprise a brick plinth up to ground floor window sill level with metal-faced insulated panels above and it has a flat roof. It is located on the middle of three plateaux, with a grass sports pitch at a higher level and car park and MUGA on the lower level.

PARKSTONE YACHT CLUB COMPETITION PARKSTONE, ENGLAND LOCATION : ENTRY DATE :

PARKSTONE, DORSET FEBRUARY, 2014

Project brief : Parkstone Yacht Club was established in 1895 and is situated on the North shore of the second largest harbour in the world. Poole harbour boasts panoramic views, sandy beaches and clean waters. The current Parkstone Yacht Club facilities are accommodated within a 1930’s building which has been altered and extended many times and has now reached the end of its useful life. The Club aspire to create the best clubhouse on the south coast; to support a wide range of water based sports for the existing membership, including dinghy and yacht fleets.

The club aims to build a new clubhouse, and the idea will be let members to see the thinking and concepts of the shortlisted architects.

HIMALAYAS ENTRY DATE :

For this architecture competition, HMMD is working in cooperation with Samarth – Nepal Market Development Programme, which works across Nepal to improve the economic performance of rural sectors; to develop a high altitude accommodation unit which will be the first of its kind to ever be established in Nepal. We are therefore asking participants to submit clever and inventive proposals for a Himalayan Mountain Hut to be positioned along any of the mountain range’s many trekking trails. The purpose of the Himalayan Mountain Hut is to provide trekkers safe, comfortable and inviting lodgings, where they and their guides can rest, refuel and, if necessary, wait out troublesome weather.
