C

Chairperson

Position Summary The Chairperson is responsible for the over seeing general functioning of the Executive. They work with executive members to set and accomplish goals for their position. The Chairperson makes meeting agendas, attends ESS and WESEF Meetings, and is the first point of contact for KISS. They also provide guidance and mentorship to the future First-year Representive.

Candidates

Ian Scholten As Chairperson, I would use my three years of experience on the KISS Executive and involvement in the broader campus, to continue to build on the momentum that has been generated by this year’s Executive, taking KISS to critical velocity. I will work with the Executive to push beyond the limits of their position - creating greater action for the KISS student body and personal growth for the Executive. If you’ll have me as your Chairperson, I would strive to continue to make meetings as open and welcoming as possible. I encourage you to come out to them, I am hoping that, together with the rest of the Executive, we can make KISS meetings the highlight of our weeks! The final component of my platform is to work with the Director of KInnections to create more bridges with other programs. Skaidra has started to lay an excellent foundation in bringing Speech Comm. and KI together and we need to continue to build on this to spread our interdisciplinarity, to learn and engage with other disciplines. Let’s make KISS effective, efficient, and something people look to for inspiration!

Director of Finance

F

Position Summary Like Alex said, this is our dollar management person. Director of Finance works with the ESS V.P. Finance and the rest of the KISS Executive to prepare and monitor a budget for each term. This

includes keeping track of whose spending what and making sure they get all of their receipts in, in

order to get reimbursed. New to the Director of Finance’s role next year will be ordering Spirit Wear.

Candidates

Jonathan Zaid I am pleased to accept the nomination for Director of Finance on KISS. Let me take a moment to tell you about my background and how it will enable me to do an excellent job. I’m a second year Knowledge Integration student who transferred into KI from Laurier’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program last fall. I decided to switch into Knowledge Integration as I believe in its values, teaching style, and think it will allow us to grow into well-rounded, diverse, and clever individuals. I have experience in fundraising, finance, bookkeeping, entrepreneurship, budgeting, project management, as well as holding positions on student councils and a board of directors. After working on six political campaigns in various capacities, my interest in politics and business took off. When I was elected to student council as the Community Service Prefect, I led the school to raise the most money for The Terry Fox Run out of any Canadian Elementary School to date. Working alongside a social worker and another teenager, we created a program called “The STARS Project”, which offers a safe space, programming, and mental health resources for LGBT youth. I led the STARS project from 3 participants to over 100 within 3 months; ran two fundraising events for over 300 people; and managed 20+ volunteers and outreach efforts at Pride. Through

my knowledge obtained from previous experience, I can help assist the Fundraising Coordinator, volunteers, and KISS members in their efforts. My interest in business remains, and I plan to continue studying business at Laurier. Furthermore, I have a keen interest in both Business Continuity and Project Management. I’m a certified ‘Associate Business Continuity Professional’ and I’m currently studying Project Management at Ryerson University. After being certified in Business Continuity, I got myself appointed to the board of D.R.I.E., an organization for fellow Business Continuity Professionals. This amazing Directorship has allowed me to get an excellent grasp on day-to-day operations (i.e. bookkeeping) in organizations like KISS. My diverse experience will help me contribute to KISS in new, unique ways, such as assessing KISS for possible risk. All in all, my experience, education, and character will ensure things are done swiftly, accurately, and ethically. There will be transparency in all aspects of KISS’ finances. My effective communication skills will assist in getting feedback from Knowledge Integration students, Environment Student Society, and the Fundraising Coordinator in their efforts. It would be a privilege to be Finance Director and I hope I can count on your support. See you at 3:45 on Friday! Best, Jonathan Zaid jzaid@uwaterloo.ca

p.s. Feel free to message/email me with any questions, concerns, or comments at any time!

Ian Hamilton Ian is currently a 2nd year Knowledge Integration student.

A

Director of Academics

Position Summary Much to my disbelief, the Director of Academics, does not direct your academics. No, this role is focused on implementing of academic initiatives, and protecting academic rights. This Director represents KISS at CKI and other academically relvant meetings. Their portfolio also includes

organizing academic events and programs like tutoring, course selection events, and study sessions.

Candidates

Shane Morganstein I think I’d be a really great fit for this position. First, I have a lot of experience in choosing courses. By taking funky courses like Sci237-‘Exploring the Universe’, Phil 230J-‘God and Philosophy’, or Engl 108F-‘The Rebel’, I have gained a lot of experience in navigating the course calendar. I hope to use this experience with the course calendar to help members of KISS find new and exciting courses they can use to fulfill their academic requirements. I am also currently pursuing 3 minors (Computer Science, Philosophy, and Human Sciences) as well as the design specialization. In taking these minors I have learned the ins-andouts of different faculties, and hope to help other members of KISS in designing their own academic plans. I also have experience being on KISS. I attended many meetings in my 1st year, and this past year I had the pleasure of co-chairing the Kinnovations Committee. As co-head of Kinnovations I was fortunate to lay the groundwork for a few academic events, the main of which is an academic conference addressing issues surrounding interdisciplinary collaboration. This conference will be taking place next winter, and I hope to use the position of Director of Academics to encourage members of KISS to be involved in this new and exciting conference.

Also as head of Kinnovations I was able to organize the academic mentorship night, in which lower year students were able to come and learn about different academic paths from upper-year academic mentors. As Director of Academics, I hope to make this event a KISS tradition, since I think that the mentorship night is a valuable addition to the KISS events repertoire. Finally, I am really dedicated to this role. I have spoken at length with my big-kid Geoff, the current Director of Academics, about the role and the different responsibilities involved as Director of Academics. I really believe that I am the right guy for the job! I think that my minors, my work as co-head of Kinnovations, and my excitement for the job would make me the best Director of Academics!! Thanks for reading!!!!!!

current first years). The Fundraising Coordinator will work with the Director of Finance to create fundraising campaigns for students in their year.

Candidates

Mary Bajorek & Elizabeth Fletcher We will be organizing super cool events to raise money for all you Berliners out there. Who doesn’t love money? Super cool events may include lemonade stands, car washes, and arts sales. That’s right, we are very persuasive people and will make people buy our lemonade, homemade art pieces and people will let us wash their cars, it will happen. BUT our big idea is.... Brace yourself.... A Berlin Calender. That’s right Berlin, we are going to dress up, make a super professional and classy calander and force the rest of KI to buy them. I mean, who wouldn’t want to look at our faces for the next year! Now go out and vote Elizabeth and Mary, we have some super fun ideas to get all the dollars so we can roam and frolick around Berlin. Peace out.

Director of KInnovations Position Summary

K

KInnovations is KISS’s think-tank, brain child. It keeps us, ideating and problem solving. The

Director of KInnovations will manage the KInnovations Committee to implement an idea they might

have or come up with new problems and solve them. From time-to-time, KInnovations will be called on by the Executive to solve a problem or complete a project.

Candidates

Aka Maden & Jillian Anderson Our aim is for Kinnovations to be a community-driven committee that addresses the overarching needs in the KI community. To achieve this we want Kinnovation’s direction to remain ambiguous until the fall, when we will be able to get together as an entire committee and determine a direction. Also, we want Kinnovations to be a place where everyone in KI can partake in innovation and bettering our community, and so our aim is to keep the committee as nonhierarchical as possible. We have both had awesome experiences in KInnovations since day one, and we’ve seen some fantastic ideas that were born and developed there. We both wanted to continue being part of KInnovations as much as possible. We’re running together because we know that YOUR ideas are so awesome that twice the brainpower and commitment can only help when turning them into reality. We think intercohort relations are super important because we’ve had different first-year experiences, and KInnovations is the perfect place for us to leverage that in our community!

Director of Communcations Position Summary

C

The loud speaker of the KISS Executive, the Director of Communications is responsible for keeping the student body in the know. They can do this through weekly emails, social media, or any other form of communication.

Candidates

Hannah Ince Hannah promises to make sure all KI students are in the know. She won’t use many links, but she does promise to at least use one per email!

Patrick Famaran I believe I’m the ideal candidate for the Director of Communications position because I’ll can keep the tradition of an entertaining and informative persona alive. I’m a social media addict and will make sure that everyone knows about everything KISS, even if I have to personally message you on Myspace and Friendster. No but actually, you can find me on Reddit (Vitaminpfam), Snapchat (Vitaminpfam), Instagram (Vitaminpfam), Pinterest (Vitaminpfam), Tumblr (Vitaminpfam.tumblr.com), Facebook and Twitter (@Vitaminpfam). I go by an alter ego called Vitamin P ~ because you need your daily dose of Patrick. I also pride myself on my ability to communicate my message through a variety of mediums: traditional language, street talk (yo!), computer slang (#octothorpe) and carrier pigeons. Furthermore, as some of you may know, I consider myself a bit of a rapper, which means I like to have fun with the English language; I also have previous theatre experience, which means I’m comfortable in a spotlight-type position.

If I get elected, I promise to keep up the funny emails, with an added interesting fact of the week and/or horoscope section and/or a “rap bars of the week” section. I’ll flood your timelines with a consistent hashtag of the week and promise to communicate any message any person has to any other person ever to I’ll keep the KissIntel alive. I am a firm believer in keeping everyone informed and up to date with everything ~ I will go out of my way to make sure every member of KISS is informed. Thank you and please consider me for your Director of Communications position. Patrick Famaran #VitaminPforDOC

C

Director of Community Development

Position Summary The loud speaker of the KISS Executive, the Director of Communications is responsible for keeping the student body in the know. They can do this through weekly emails, social media, or any other form of communication.

Candidates

Melanie Osmond I want to work alongside Kinnections and Academics for a variety of events that include as many people as possible. I have experience and hope to have a career in event planning someday!

Kyla Sedore I’m Kyla. I plan to be Sally, but taller ...and with less doge - but that is

subject to change. My plan looks a bit like us KIers having fun, and me doing some extra special behind the scenes work with a small team of secret agents to make sure it all goes smoothly. I’ll just be a tall Sally instead of a Sally Sally. A lot of things will happen and you’ll all be involved and you won’t even know how it happened. I mean, you’ll plan to do 4 hours of studying with headphones in the studio, but you’ll end up part of a study group that meets once a week with cookies. You’ll plan to work

super hard and burn out during midterm season, but you’ll get together and watch good movies, play board games, play sports, develop lasting friendships, and dump all your emotional baggage on other KIers. I highly recommend this, and will do my best to facilitate it. As someone who struggled to be involved in 1st year, and has basically lived in the studio this year, I have experienced many levels of motivation to be involved, and I plan to convince first year me that community isn’t scary. In summary: more fun, more me, more you.
