MODULE SUBMISSON FORM SUBMISSION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY 29TH MAY 11AM - 1PM RATIONALE A print based investigation of image and branding with a focus on production. I have explored branding in terms of the way in which a whole brand experience can be created and how a logo design can be utilised across a range of different outcomes. I have also incorporated my image making skills within this in the form of pattern designs. Some of the briefs have also allowed me to develop my hand rendered image making skills too and focus on applied image and how I can use this skill to my advantage. I have also explored design for screen in terms of layout design of a website and creating an interactive PDF. All of my briefs have allowed to me fully explore design production methods in terms of stock choices and finishing with each having their own unique edge. My photography skills have also developed massively in order to bring each brief together and show off the production quality. Title and Brief Summary – include a short rationale for each brief identifying why you chose it, what was the focus of the brief and how long you spent on it. BRIEF 1 Fudge Kitchen A print and digital based investigation of branding and an overall brand experience. I chose this brief to really explore branding properly as I knew there would be a range of outcomes that could be proposed in order to really push the idea of context and get me to understand what really makes up a brand, and not just logo design. I was also able to understand how a logo can be applied across a range of outcomes in different ways but still so that it links back to the original brand idea. I spent three weeks on this brief. BRIEF 2 Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design Yearbook A digital based investigation of booklet design and promotion. I chose to pitch for a yearbook because I wanted to capitalise on my existing collaborative skills and work cross course in order to make more contacts. The fact our yearbook was just PDF format has meant I’ve really developed my digital skills and been able to work with a different area of design as my practice is usually very heavily print based. I’ve developed skills in image resizing and placement in particular as this was a large part of my contribution to the yearbook. Promotion has also come into play with this brief because the yearbook is going to be used to promote the course and the successes it has had so we were able to explore how best to do that in this format. We spent three weeks on this brief.

BRIEF 3 Tigerprint Colour A print based investigation of colour trends and pattern design. I chose this brief so that I had at least one brief that had more of a focus on the concept side rather than them all being about the design side. The concept is very much based on research I did into colour trends which was guided by the original competition brief. I was also able to develop skills in applied image with this brief because I have explored different ways in which a single pattern can be utilised instead of all of the products effectively being the same. I spent two weeks on this brief. BRIEF 4 Nail Varnish A print based investigation of branding and production. I chose this brief so I was able to explore a new area of the industry and create different products that I haven’t previously explored as well as production methods that add to the quality of a product. This brief has allowed me to explore context and how a product would be seen in store and also be promoted in a very busy market. It was an opportunity to improve my digital mock up skills so that elements look as realistic as possible. I spent two weeks on this brief. BRIEF 5 YCN UK Greetings A print based investigation of image making and production. I chose this brief as a chance to hand illustrate a theme which I knew I would enjoy which was in this case, animals. This was in a sense my play brief but also had significant purpose. I was able to explore production methods in terms of stock choices, producing various different 3D products and how these would be packaged. Branding came into this brief ever so vaguely too because I had to brand the range for the purpose of the YCN competition. I spent four weeks on this brief. BRIEF 6 Emily Ward Branding A print and screen based investigation of branding. I was asked to do this brief because a friend had been advised to have some business cards to go alongside some work she sells within a shop in Leeds. I took this as an opportunity to do my first client brief and thought it would be a great additional brief. As well as the business card I created a few other pieces of stationery relevant to Emily’s practice. I have further developed good people skills throughout this brief because I was having regular meetings with the client. I spent a week on this brief. BRIEF 7 Geek Table A print based investigation of hand rendered image making skills and collaborative practice. We chose to do this brief collectively because we all wanted a brief in which we could just have fun and utilise our favourite graphic design skill to create various pieces of work. We thought if we came together to do this then we would produce a significant body of work which we could then put into a publication. I spent two weeks on this brief. BRIEF 8

Design Context Publication A print and research based investigation of Image based design. I chose image as the theme for my design context publication because this forms the basis of my practice and is always something I have been really passionate about. Throughout researching I have been able to find new designers to follow in the future and also made some new contacts. I spent three weeks on this brief.
