The Kinkaid School’s 17th Annual Alumni Leadership Day

Dear Class of 2023,

This year we have a very impressive group of over 50 alumni returning to campus to visit with the Class of 2023 about their respective careers and the decisions and paths that defined their choices.

We want to thank our alumni for participating in this special event. Each of them has generously made time for Kinkaid and is willing and eager to share their insights so that you will be better equipped for the opportunities, challenges, and decisions that lie ahead.

The alumni panelists have shared a brief summary of what a “day in the life” of their career entails, along with their contact info and educational and work history. We hope that this information can be used to provide you with a realistic view of the demands and expectations of these various jobs.

Our goal is that you will begin to better formulate questions about your next steps in college and beyond. We encourage you to ask questions during the panel sessions and follow up with the panelists after the program. Making connections within the vast network of Kinkaid alumni is extremely valuable, and we hope that the Class of 2023 will take advantage of this unique opportunity.

I am responsible for approving all actors with speaking roles on my assigned shows in addition to creating ideas lists and budget proposals. One of my favorite parts of my job is discovering new talent! I watch as much TV and as many films as I can and I frequently see comedy shows, college showcases, plays, and musicals to find fresh talent for Hulu.

I work as a script coordinator in the writers’ room for the large-scale, globally-filmed sci-fi epic INVASION on Apple TV+. I am the last person to lay eyes on the script before it is distributed to our crew and later filmed. I am the right hand to and conduit of the Showrunner and writers’ room to both the studio and production, making sure that the scripts are distributed to the cast, crew, and studio and understood correctly by the crew. I coordinate the writing and revision process, while also proofreading, editing, noting continuity between scenes and episodes, managing translators, and serving as an encyclopedia for the show at large, answering questions the crew may have about scripts/episodes. I do my best to be a robust resource for the show and our fantastic team. In addition, I own and operate my own production company, Stellabelle, where I write, direct, and produce original films.

I write for the Blue’s Clues reboot, Blue’s Clues and You. I usually spend a couple hours a day in writing meetings, research debriefs, and episode walk throughs where we check in with the different parties who have a say in the episodes we are writing (the production team, network executives, show creators, and the research team - they test every episode as a storybook with a group of kids!). The rest of the day is spent hitting writing deadlines or brainstorming future episodes/trouble shooting problems that came up in the earlier meetings with the writing team. We try to leave a couple days of the week free of meetings to focus on writing episodes. When writing, it’s usually just me, Final Draft or Word, and a document or two of notes to address.

As a Professional Resource at The Siegfried Group, I get to exponentially improve my skillset by taking on different roles at each client I support. We work alongside financial executives across the nation on their most important accounting and finance projects (i.e., internal/external audit, financial reporting, technical accounting, budgeting and forecasting, controllership, IPO readiness, mergers and acquisitions, and system implementations). My recent engagements included a project with Sysco Foods in their internal audit department and a deployment with Blackboard Inc. in their revenue accounting department. Working in client services has also given me the opportunity to significantly expand my network. Not only do we have a great culture within Siegfried, but I also get to build close relationships with my clients.

My days usually run late into the night as we rush to finalize a big presentation, print and bind the materials, and fly out somewhere secret in pursuit of the next big deal!

Home building is truly a business of fine details so I am constantly reviewing work in both the planning and execution stages in order to fine tune and improve whatever I can.

Brad has been directly involved in the design and construction of over 9,500 multi-family units in multiple markets throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and the Southeastern United States. Brad’s primary responsibilities include overseeing TDC’s ground up development execution as well as managing the design efforts for the company’s student housing and market rate developments. Brad is a licensed contractor in the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, Arkansas, and Florida as well as a LEED AP with the US Green Building Council. Being a rotational program, I have so far been a member of the Risk Control group that manages the financial derivatives trading activity for the company, and I am now a member of the ‘Product Solutions’ (legacy Downstream) Business Services team. Some of my daily responsibilities include assessing the economics of our US pipeline, refinery, and chemical projects, providing Treasurers endorsement of major procurement-related contracts, and conducting periodic capital structure reviews of our US downstream affiliates.

Coinbase is a global crypto exchange that allows fully work from home flexibility. I am usually up by 6 am. Then I am making coffee at home, while answering Slack messages, checking CNBC, and planning my work load for the day. Between 8 to 10 am, I get my mental health kick in. At 10 am, my work day really starts. I am responsible for procuring all shared services on behalf of the company. My day can vary - anywhere from negotiating a multi-million-dollar marketing agency deal, to finalizing an institutional deal, or running an enterprise software RFP. My day does not have a solid “end”, but the work from home aspect allows me to manage my time and not lose track of my personal life!

I spend a lot of time cross team: with our creator side of the business, Creator Success, fostering Creator x Brand relationships; with our Product Team to test and learn all the new updates on our online creator site/brand site/ LTK App (over 10M+ registered users!); and with other internal LTK Sales/Brand Management teams. I work from home but LTK has amazing culture. Sometimes my day includes a virtual cooking class, traveling to conferences all over the US, or meeting up with local creators and agencies!

A day in the life of a cardiology fellow can vary a lot from month to month. Certain rotations are inpatient focused, and we treat patients admitted to the hospital or cardiac ICU. Some rotations will be focused on procedures such as cardiac catheterization or electrophysiology, while others are all about imaging interpretation of echocardiograms, cardiac MRIs, and nuclear stress tests. Our daily schedule changes significantly depending on the rotation.
