2018-2019 CONCERT SEASON | LISTEN LIVE • LISTEN LOCAL

Dear Friends, Unveiling a new season is like Christmas for me. The hard work of planning, coordinating, and executing a season’s lineup is behind us and we can now reveal the treasure trove of repertoire and live concert experiences we have programmed, just for you! This season marks my fifth as Music Director and the Kingston Symphony’s 65th. And rest assured, we are celebrating in style! From the bacchanalian frenzy of Orff’s legendary Carmina Burana, to the overwhelming power of Beethoven’s towering Violin Concerto, to the stirring intimacy of Rodrigo’s extraordinary Concierto de Aranjuez, our Masterworks Series is filled with something for everyone. I am also very excited to welcome some extraordinary soloists to share the stage with us in 2018-2019.

We have an incredible Pops Series coming up too! Patricia Ward Kelly hosts a celebration of Gene Kelly’s life, with the Kingston Symphony performing classic musical scores live while some of his most famous scenes are projected. Pierre Schryer, one of Canada’s leading Celtic musicians, will astonish us with his mastery of the fiddle. Brass Transit, a group of eight awardwinning musicians, brings us a tribute to the songbook of Chicago. Lastly, our beloved Christmas and Family programs will continue to warm your hearts. I want to personally thank our incredible family of donors, who have provided us with the financial stability to reach and celebrate our 65th season. I am thrilled to announce that we have expanded our donor levels and benefits so you can share in our continued success! If you wish to see the Kingston Symphony continue to thrive in our community, then please consider joining the Friends of the Symphony or the Encore Society today. Please see page 22 for more information. I look forward to a truly amazing season and can’t wait to share it with you. Yours in music,

Evan Mitchell

While most people think of dance when they think of Gene Kelly, music was central to his work. It influenced him; inspired him; and, in many ways, defined him. In 1969, the musical arrangements to many of MGM’s classic films were destroyed. Now with these scores carefully reconstructed, we are able to bring you a remarkable event: Gene Kelly dancing on the big screen accompanied live by the magnificent Kingston Symphony!
