Welcome!

It is with the greatest excitement that I write this welcome to you, our most fantastic audience. The Kingston Symphony is a cornerstone of the rich cultural life in this great city, and I could not be more honoured or humbled to present this new season. And what a season it is! Looking for excitement, fantasy, intrigue? Try Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique on for size. Want to relive the epic film memories triggered by John Williams’ greatest movie scores? We have you covered. Fancy some opera? So do we! This season really has everything, from the classic symphonies of Brahms, Beethoven, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky to some of the greatest concertos in the repertoire alongside fabulous pops experiences and a hearty dose of excellent Canadian music, as is the proud standard of the Kingston Symphony. This is also a landmark season in that we unveil the very first of our concerts performed in the spectacular Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. How lucky we are to be performing in such a world-class facility! This means you will experience the music the way it is meant to be experienced, with full majesty and acoustic splendour, inside an extraordinary and beautiful hall. You are going to love it. And ultimately, that is what it is all about! This season is for you. Music that will move you, excite you, entertain you. There is so much amazing music this season, it is an embarrassment of riches. It is also a reminder of how lucky we are to be sharing this incredible art with you, and how live performance is always the best, the most fulfilling, the most exciting! We cannot wait to play this music for you. These concerts cannot come soon enough! I want to extend my deepest thanks and love to Maestro Glen Fast, who will be returning as Conductor Emeritus for two concerts this season. Glen, what you have done for this orchestra is immeasurable. Your shoes are far too big to fill. I am so happy that you will remain an integral part of this organization. So there you have it, our 2014-2015 season. Hold on tight! Sincerely,

Evan Mitchell Music Director
