Summer of the Seventeenth Doll Friday 27 March
For sixteen years straight, two cane-cutters work in Queensland seven months of the year, and return to their girlfriends in Melbourne for five months of partying and romance. But the seventeenth summer is different. And all bets are off... Following its triumphant premiere season in Melbourne 1955, Summer of the Seventeenth Doll won Best New Play in London’s West End, placing Australian theatre firmly on the global stage. This 2020 production celebrates the 65th anniversary of this iconic work.
“A story of love, heartache, hope and loss, Ray Lawler’s Summer of the Seventeenth Doll remains one of the theatrical canon’s most moving explorations of the fading of youth and dreams.” artsreview.com.au
