Consider your King’s education in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, a four-year laboratory that helps you discover what you are passionate about while preparing you for your professional career.

THE KING’S EXPERIENCE No matter what major you choose, you will benefit from our robust liberal arts Core Curriculum. Why does that matter? You will develop skills that are in high demand by employers, abilities like effective communication, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and emotional intelligence. And, unlike larger institutions, our classes are intentionally small to foster discussion, prioritize individual attention, and build your résumé with solid experience

and opportunities. This personal interest and involvement pay off as more of our students graduate in four years than at institutions with larger class sizes. But the value of a King’s degree doesn’t end there. As a Monarch, you will learn how to mobilize your talents to serve the common good, setting yourself apart in the hiring process after graduation.

HOLY CROSS DIFFERENCE Next to academic excellence, community is the most unique and transformative aspect of the King’s College experience. We believe your success depends on more than your accomplishments in the classroom. Students from across the country, of all backgrounds and faiths, benefit from education focused on both the mind and the soul.

Our Holy Cross Experience class for first-year students aims to do exactly that: provide guidance on college-level writing assignments and foster the understanding that you’re not alone in this new experience.

As a Catholic institution, students are invited to share our faith, but we do not impose it. Instead, we encourage you to explore your own beliefs and discover your zeal to help make the world a better place.

At King’s, we take great pride in integrating service learning into 52 classes, making it an integral part of our curriculum. With over 100,000 hours of annual service, we have been nationally recognized for our strong service-learning programs. As a student, you can expect to take an active role in giving back through a variety of outreach initiatives.

Here, you’ll find an inclusive and compassionate atmosphere with a community you’ll know well. Here, you’ll have encouragement and support as you navigate college and this next chapter of your life.

Only recently are other institutions focusing on this holistic student experience; at King’s, we’ve been doing it for 75 years.

In your third and fourth years, you can then move to our on-campus apartments, which foster even greater freedom and flexibility to enjoy guaranteed housing all four years. Our residence halls and apartment buildings are located within a five-minute walk to any academic building, saving you extra time between classes, and feature 24/7 computer labs and brand-new LG washers and dryers so you can do your laundry for free. Each room is fully furnished and includes strong Wi-Fi for streaming and gaming. In addition to amenities, all our housing options are supported by Resident Assistants and Counselors who provide a wide range of non-academic support. While we make sure you have a fun environment to live in, we also ensure your safety—all buildings are locked and accessible only by using your King’s ID. Almost a quarter of our students are athletes, so we understand the drive to excel both on and off the field. A STRONG SELF INVESTMENT One of the biggest investments you can make in your life is in your college education. It’s a financial commitment, of course, but it’s also an investment in yourself. Still, making that investment possible can be challenging, with student debt a primary concern. We go above and beyond to make our high-quality education affordable and accessible to anyone who wants to attend King’s College. We start by encouraging every student to apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), regardless of their circumstances. In doing so, you’ll find out if you qualify for funds to help you pay for college, including scholarships, grants, and other aid directly from King’s College as well as grants and loans from the federal government or the state government. If you’re accepted to multiple institutions at which you’ve submitted your FAFSA, you’ll likely receive different financial aid offers to review and compare. But don’t worry—we’re with you every step of the way on your path to becoming a Monarch.

99% of incoming students receive financial aid

22

UNDERSTANDING FINANCIAL AID We make every effort to support you and empower you with as much information as possible to navigate the financial aid process. We want you to be confident that your choices today will lead to a promising future. King’s College hosts financial aid information sessions and events that guide you through completing and submitting your FAFSA. We also share a special email series with our accepted students to walk you through unpacking and comparing offers, the nuances between aid, and recommended resources to secure additional funding. You can always contact the Office of Financial Aid should you have questions or concerns about financial aid or completing your FAFSA. Call (570) 208-5868 to speak with one of our Financial Aid counselors or email finaid@kings.edu with your questions.

GRANTS

SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

STUDENT LOANS

Free money that you don’t have to repay! Determined by your submitted FAFSA, grants are given by federal and state government agencies based on financial need, including the PA State Grant and the federal Pell grant. King’s College also awards generous need-based grants determined by your FAFSA.

Free money awarded by King’s College that you don’t have to repay! King’s College scholarships ($18,000 to full tuition) and awards ($1,000 to $5,000) are awarded based on academic performance (also called “merit”), determined by your college application. Students can also seek out scholarships from private agencies or organizations, all of which vary greatly in selection criteria and amounts given.

Money you borrow, and eventually repay, to cover the costs of your education. Student loans can only be used for educational-related expenses and can come from government agencies (determined by your FAFSA) or from private banks or sources. Loan amounts, repayment terms, and interest rates vary by year of study.

$32,000

average 2022-23 financial aid package for first-year students

COMPLETING THE FAFSA FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS 1 GATHER Families will need financial information, like tax returns and bank statements, for both students and parents. Take the time before starting the FAFSA to collect everything you can!

COST OF ATTENDANCE 2 ESTIMATE Using your gathered documents and our online Net

Price Calculator at kings.edu/netprice, estimate what the cost of attending King’s College might be and potential financial aid eligibility so you can plan ahead. Please remember this is only an estimate and actual awards will be determined once you’ve applied to King’s College and submitted the FAFSA. If accepted, you’ll receive a formal Financial Aid Offer.

PAYMENT OPTIONS 3 UNDERSTAND After any scholarships, grants, and financial aid are applied, you may still have a balance due for the semester. Luckily, King’s College makes monthly or deferred payment plans simple or you can opt for private loans or the Parent PLUS loan to help defray costs. Read more about these options at kings.edu/financialaid.

THE FAFSA 4 SUBMIT King’s College Code: 003282 WORK STUDY Free money you can earn through a part-time job at King’s College. Work study funds can be awarded by government agencies or King’s College, both of which are determined by your FAFSA, at the beginning of the semester. Those funds will then be paid bi-weekly as long as you satisfactorily complete your hours.

Once you’ve gathered your documents and learned a little more about anticipated cost and payment options, it’s time to submit! This application is FREE and available beginning October 1 at studentaid.gov. Be sure to complete your submission by March 1, our preferred deadline. Please keep in mind, the FAFSA must be completed each year to receive financial aid.

Find the full list of documents you need to gather for filing the FAFSA by scanning the code.

READY FOR WHAT’S NEXT

King’s College begins accepting applications in August and offers three different types of admission. Both Early Action and Early Decision admission increase your chances of getting into King’s College and priority placement in programs. You can relax knowing early where you’re headed after graduation! Regular Decision will give you more time to consider your options. If accepted later in the process, you’ll have to move more quickly in the spring to confirm your enrollment.

King’s College admits students of any race, color, and national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Application Due: December 1

Application Due: December 1

Application Due: February 1

If you want to be among the first to know if you’re accepted but are considering several schools, act early to submit your application and receive your admission decision quickly. Submitting Early Action is non-binding, meaning you can consider early offers from multiple schools.

If you are sure King’s College is right for you, submit your application early to receive your admission decision ahead of other students. Unlike Early Action, Early Decision is binding, which means if you are accepted, you’ll be expected to withdraw any other applications at other institutions.

If you need more time to visit schools, weigh your options, or improve test scores, submit your application by the standard deadline. Most students make this choice because there are no restrictions on the number of colleges you can apply to or obligation to attend them.

We review every individual application that comes to our desks. Each one! When we receive your submission and FAFSA application, we’ll look at several factors to determine acceptance, awards, and aid.

OVERALL ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: There are several factors in our admission decision, but the best thing you can do is continue working hard as you wrap up your high school education. We’ll look at your academic history, GPA, and overall rank in your class.

PERSONAL STATEMENT: Although not required, it

always helps to submit a personal statement that highlights your unique talents and interests. This is your chance to tell our Admission team what is important to you! These statements can be helpful in identifying additional merit award.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Although not required, letters

For each of the application choices above, you’ll need to submit:
