Christmas Term 2021

I am very proud of the whole King's Bruton community this term. In September, I had hoped that we would be able to function normally throughout this term, but the pandemic seems ‘to keep on giving’ and the end of term has been affected by uncertainty regarding the new variant and increased restrictions. The School has coped admirably with all the myriad aspects of COVID: positive pupil and staff cases, testing, vaccinations, anti-vaccers, quarantine and hybrid teaching. However, COVID has not defined this term and teaching, and learning have continued apace. The concerts, despite having to be livestreamed have been excellent, Duke of Edinburgh and Ten Tors practices have been successful and both boys and girls have had outstanding sports seasons. I suppose this term could be defined by our response to the complex issues raised by Everyone’s Invited. Sexual harassment, consent, pornography, banter, and rape culture are now issues that we are all widely discussing, and we have all benefitted from the wise perspectives of expert outside speakers. Tolerance of diversity is vital in any healthy community and these issues will remain front and centre at King's. It has not been the COVID-free term I had hoped for, but it has been another impressive, successful term both in and out of the classroom. Floreat Brutonia! Ian Wilmshurst - Headmaster.
