In the accident that took place at the Wadala bridge on Wednesday night, 55-year-old Shanta Bapu Waghela lost her life while Ganesh Chekhalia, Himesh Kiran Durgule and Rahul Suresh Khavdia, Reeta Chekhalia, Manisha Durgule and Asha Khavdia have suffered head and leg injuries. Out of the three injured children, Ganesh has the most serious injuries and all the affected family members are praying for the seven-year-old’s recovery.

Govind Chekhalia, who is Ganesh’s uncle, is probably the only person there who saw the accident happening.

“I was sitting with my son at a distance from the others who were having food when the accident happened. I was waiting for my wife when suddenly a bike came speeding from nowhere and hit Shanta. The impact threw her off and she died on the spot. I ran to help her and as I got close to her, I saw the bike hitting a few others ahead. I did not know what to do.

Shanta’s body was totally twisted.

Everything happened very quickly.

Everybody was helping each other and all of the injured were rushed to the hospital”, said Govind.

“I was on my way home when I met my nephew. He said that there has been an accident at the Wadala bridge and several people have been injured. The moment I heard this, I got scared. I was praying that nothing should have happened to my family. When I reached home, I saw that my family was one of the many that had been affected”, said Suresh.

Biker arrested for negligence

n Thursday, Mohammed Qureshi (35), has been arrested by the Wadala police for negligence.

Qureshi was performing stunts on his motorbike on Wadala bridge at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. He was racing heavily on the road, when he suddenly lost his balance over the bike and hit the footpath.

Due to this, three children and a woman sleeping on the footh-

path were severely injured.

The victims were immediately rushed to the KEM Hospital. The woman was declared dead on admission, while the three children are being currently treated at the hospital.

It should be noted that the MBMC has awarded a daily collection contract of Rs.5.34 crore to

four private companies. Although they are supposed to collect daily fees only from vendors operating in hawking zones, the goons hired by the contractors have been defying the regulations by openly extorting money from illegally operating hawkers in the region. “We will take strict action against those defying the rules,“ Kakani added.

W

hen Babu Jagatap, a conservancy worker attached to G/N ward officer in Dadar, went to his office yesterday, he was not allowed to sign the register. He was served with a notice for breach of official code of conduct and was asked to return home.

The letter asked him to vacate the civic quarters in which he was staying with his family, deposit the key in the estate department and only then re-join office. Meanwhile, he will be treated as an employee on leave without pay. The building, located on Phalke Road in Dadar east, is frighteningly dilapidated.

Thousands of civic workers like Jagatap, particularly the class III and class IV employees and conservancy staff who stay in dilapidated quarters, were not allowed to sign the registers in their respective ward offices on Thursday and were instead served with a notice of breach of service code and conduct.

All these workers have been asked to vacate their existing service quarters, most being in the island city – from Colaba to Mazgaon and Dadar - surrender the flat keys and only then report to work. A few of them have got alternative accommodation, in distant Mahur, Chembur and Mankhurd. The rest have been asked to find their own accommodations.

After the collapse of a BMC owned building at Dockyard road last Friday (Sept 27), wherein 61 people died and 30 were injured, the issue of dilapidated buildings has come under intense scrutiny.

This may be considered as being too little too late, but the spotlight just refuses to go away, given the number of times this tragedy could be replicated.

It was one of the worst building collapses in the recent history. This building was already classified as a C2, meaning that the damage was serious and it needed to be needed to be vacated as soon as possible.

However, on account of administrative lapses, pressure was not brought upon the occupants who are always (and understandably reluctant to disrupt the routine of their lives. Seven engineers were suspended immediately after the incident and an inquiry has been set up against another 11 engineers.

Taking cognizance of this accident, the officials have pulled up their socks now. Within four days of the tragedy, the civic body has served notices to all the dilapidated

Almost a decade later, even the old structure has not been pulled down and redevelopment is a distant dream.

Over the years, this issue was neglected in the civic body. Budget provisions have been made every year for the repair or redevelopment and the increase of the number of quarters for new staffers.

However, this did not work out due to multiple issues, including civic staffers’ delay in vacating the buildings, vested interests of senior officials, untrustworthy developers and changing rules.

BJP, Cong accuse each other over withdrawal of ‘Ordinance’

BJP hails verdict on former Bihar CM who was sentenced to five years and a fine of Rs.25 lakh in the fodder scam case

ormer Bihar chief minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.25 lakh in a 17-year-old fodder scam case, on Thursday claimed that he was falsely implicated.

“Sir, I am innocent. I have been falsely framed in the case,” a subdued Prasad pleaded during a video conference from the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, Bihar to Special CBI Judge Pravas Kumar Singh, who pronounced the quantum of sentence for 37 of the 45 convicts.

The video conferencing was held on security grounds, a court official told PTI. Prasad had on September 30 and during his previous appearances claimed that there was a political conspiracy against him. JDU MP Jagdish Sharma also pleaded innocence. With the conclusion of 45 of 53 AHD cases, Prasad still has four more cases against him in the Rs 950 crore scam, which was unearthed during his regime in the 1990s. Yadav has also been accused in RC 38A/96, RC 47A/96, RC 64 A/96 and in another RC case.

Meanwhile, the BJP yesterday welcomed the sentencing of RJD chief Lalu Prasad and others in the fodder scam and hoped that there will similar judgements punishing the guilty in cases of “monumental” corruption like 2G spectrum, Coalgate, and Commonwealth Games.

he Navi Mumbai police have arrested four people from Mumbai in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 25-year-old which took place a month ago.

The decomposed body of Mahibul Haque was found last Sunday in an isolated area in Turbhe. Haque, a resident of Wadala, had come to deliver some cosmetics in Vashi and was missing since August 26. Since the police found nothing to suggest that he had gone off on his own, they registered a case of kidnapping on September 8.

“The body was found near a bush on Sunday. Haque’s

pain was so excruciating that she was unable to speak,” said Pinky’s mother.

Later Pinky gesticulated to her mother to take her to hospital. “As the lift was not working, one of our neighbours carried Pinky down five floors. We rushed her to Mandapeshwar Hospital, where doctors started immediate treatment on her. She was trying to speak but could not manage and died within a few minutes,” she added.

“We have lost our girl. We

have no complaints or doubts. But how she can die in minutes without any medical history is shocking,” said a relative.

Senior police inspector Narayan Khaire of Borivali police station said, “The post mortem was carried at Bhagwati Hospital where the cause of death was declared as pneumonia. We are also surprised as to how a young girl can die in minutes. We have registered an ADR in the matter.”

Uncle kills nephew over petty issue

he 8-year-old boy who had mysteriously disappeared from an orphanage in Nalasopara last week, was found sleeping at a pavement in Virar, late on Tuesday night.

Identified as Harshad Kamble, the child stayed at an orphanage run by Narayan Chandra Trust in Nalasopara.

Harshad had mysteriously disappeared on September 25, prompting the trust management to register a complaint at the Nalasopara police station who filed a kidnapping case against unidentified accused. Even as the police were investigating into the matter, they were informed by their Virar counterparts that a construction worker had found a boy whose description matched that of the missing child.

Moreover, the system enabled with face recognition software was converted to a modern bio-metric attendance system for the sanitary workers so as to avoid any carelessness or proxyattendance during duty hours. However with the

GIS in a limbo, it’s back to the age old system, where details like the number of rounds made by a particular collection truck and the number of on-duty sanitary personnel are recorded in a manual logbook and later emailed to the civic officials.

However, because of its nature, the system is once again vulnerable to manipulation. When contacted Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Sambhaji Panpatte, said, “We have issued a notice to the contractor clearly stating that henceforth payments will not be released until and unless the mandatory GIS rules are followed.”

It should be noted that an average of 375 metric tonnes of garbage per day is generated by the twincity which has been divided into four zones. The contractor claims to have deployed 79 compactor vehicles and 1599 sanitary workers for lifting and transporting the garbage to the waste processing plant in Uttan.

Considering the loss of a year, a few colleges have not allowed their students to appear for those subjects in which they have less than 50 per cent attendance.

Recently, around 250 students from Narsee Monjee College in Vile Parle were debarred from the college for low attendance. Colleges have also dropped their students for a semester or year for being irregular. Within the last three months, around 500-600 students have been thrown out of their respective colleges for having poor attendance records.

he Central Railway (CR) will run two air-conditioned superfast special trains between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Hazrat Nizamuddin. 02109 AC will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Tuesday, October 8 at 2.30 p.m. and arrive at Hazarat Nizamuddin at 10.20 a.m. the next day. 02110 AC will leave Hazarat Nizamuddin on Wednesday, October 9 at 3.50 p.m. and arrive at LTT at 11.50 a.m. the next day. It also comes close on the heels of the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s outbursts against an Ordinance brought by his government to overturn the top court order. Meanwhile, a special CBI court in Ranchi has not only upheld the law of the land but has also restored the faith of the masses in the judicial system by holding former Bihar CM and 44 others guilty of fraudulently withdrawing a whopping Rs.950 crore from the state treasury. Current in a metallic conductor is due to the flow of free electrons. Flow of electrons constitutes the electric current in a conductor when a potential difference is applied across the ends of a conductor.

Electrical circuit is a continuous path consisting of conducting wires and other resistances between the terminals of a battery, along which an electric current flows.

Right-Hand Thumb rule: Imagine that you are holding a current carrying straight conductor in your right hand such that the thumb points towards the direction of current, then the curled fingers around the conductor will give the direction of the magnetic field.

Solenoid: A coil of many turns of insulated copper wire wrapped in the shape of cylinder is called a solenoid.

The solenoid has all the properties of a bar magnet.

A current carrying conductor when placed in a magnetic field experiences a force. The direction of the force depends on the direction of the magnetic field and is given by Fleming’s left hand rule.

Fleming’s left hand rule : Stretch the forefinger, the central finger and the thumb of your left hand mutually perpendicular to each other. If the forefinger shows the direction of the field and the central finger shows the direction of the current, then the thumb will point towards the direction of the motion of the conductor or the force acting on the conductor.

Electric motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy and works on the principle that a current carrying conductor placed in magnetic field experiences a force.

Tell us about your character in the movie Besharam.

Besharam’s story is about two best friends Babli (Ranbir) and Titu (Amitosh). I play Titu, an enthu-cutlet.

Babli and Titu are both orphans who have grown up together. They steal cars for survival. Whatever money they earn after selling cars, they give to the orphanage where they lived, Robin Hood style. Our characters are besharam (shameless) to the extent that we even had to shoot intimate scenes with each other.

Besharam has already garnered attention as it’s the first movie where the Kapoor family comes together on screen. How was it working with Rishi, Neetu and Ranbir Kapoor?

As a kid, I loved watching Neetu ma’am and Rishi sir on screen, so working with them was a dream come true. With their family on set, it didn't feel like coming for a movie shoot, but more like visiting their home. The set became so homely, that at times we forgot that we were working.

A special film, titled Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum, will be screened to help you learn more about the history behind it. The film is about Pompeii and Herculaneum, two cities on the Bay of Naples in Southern Italy, that were buried by a volcanic eruption. The reason it’s so interesting is that even though the tragedy ended the lives of the people of two entire cities, the way it erupted also helped preserve their remains for archaeologists to discover.

The excavation of the cities isn’t complete, but archaeologists have uncovered several fascinating artifacts.

Chairman of the NCPA, Khushroo N. Suntook tells us, “The Pompeii Exhibition at the British Museum is staggering.

The film should interest not only those who know about Pompeii, but also those who are generally curious. We are honoured that special guest speaker Paul Roberts, is visiting and I urge everyone to attend this unique screening.”

Tell us where your interest in different aspects of filmmaking stems from?

I feel that an actor should know all the facets of filmmaking; it makes him better equipped to give his best.

If you were to choose one role, which one would it be?

I love experimenting and playing new characters. I have played comic roles, serious characters and I am open to playing negative roles too.

You’ve also been associated with plays and have staged Piya Behrupia.

What do you have to say about the theatre scene in Mumbai?

Piya Behrupiya is an Indian rendition of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. You must catch it at Prithvi. The response has been great! Mumbai’s theatre scene is independent and interesting.

Even though there are space constraints, we get what every theatre artist needs — freedom to perform how we want to and acceptance.

The Hindi film industry is often labelled as tough to get into. What has your experience been like so far?

I didn’t find it very tough but it wasn’t easy either. Once you get your first break, this industry welcomes you with an open heart. Good work is always recognised. People will recommend you if you are good.

Entertaining people is not an easy job but it has definitely been a rewarding journey for me. From being a lyricist for the movie Oye Lucky Lucky Oye to lyric writing, singing and acting in Besharam! The industry recognises and appreciates talent.

What’s next for you?

I am almost done writing dialogues for two films. One of them is Gulabgang with Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla. I am acting in an independent Hollywood movie For Here Or To Go. I am also writing the story, screenplay and dialogues for Makbool and writing a script for Shomit Sen's next, film, Phirki.

‘24 is an adaptation not a translation’

Filmmaker Abhinay Deo, who directed films such as Delhi Belly and Game, is now helming 24 episodes for the first season of the Indian version of international series 24. The director will release the movies only once the thriller starring Anil Kapoor concludes.

Rohit Pramar caught up with the director to talk the show and more…

How different is the Indian version from the American version of the show?

Obviously the format is the same and it has the same season storyline but apart from that, everything about the show is different. Those who have followed the American version will get to see a totally different setting as the political and geological factors are different.

All the punch lines of the show have been changed and replaced with new ones. There’s a lot of Indianness in the show. It is an adaption and not a translation. So, you will get to see a lot of new stuff.

What was it like working with a senior actor like Anil Kapoor?

It is just amazing. I think he is one of the most dedicated and hardworking actors in India today. He is an actor’s director; you can mold him into anything. He was always there whenever I needed him on set. Since the character is pretty intense and sensitive, he has adapted it really well. He is just incredible in the show. It was a pleasure to work with him.

Presently, mythological and family drama shows tend to rule television. Do you think 24 will change that?

Just because something is working doesn’t mean that the rest won’t work. The audience is ready for both. So, there is an audience for 24.

I think it was just a matter of time before someone decided to make it.

Do you follow any TV shows and which ones are your favourite?

I do not really follow Indian daily soaps.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S is my all time favourite. I also enjoy Game Of Thrones. My other favourite is Breaking Bad, I think it’s a phenomenal show.

Will you be directing the second season too?

It’s upto the channel to take a call but I will be creatively heading the season as well. It also depends if my schedule is free. After 24, I’m supposed to start work on a feature film.

Can you tell us about your feature film?

I think it’s too early to say anything since I don’t know which one will see the light. I have three scripts at the moment and I am in a process of developing them all. All the films have different elements and characters.

What genre are they?

One of the films that I am doing is a buddy film. The other is a children's film in which the protagonist is a kid. The third one is a love story and it’s a feel good film. I always like to experiment and try new things. My next film is going to be very different. *24 will air on Colors TV, every Friday and Saturday at 10 pm, from October 4 onwards.

It seemed like a normal European style restaurant with a few unique smatterings. So, I was expecting a nice meal in a nice restaurant. But, my actual experience surpassed my expectations! Here’s why…

This kind of space is a luxury in cramped Mumbai. We decided to sit in their fine dining section where Chef Rajeev Arora greeted us.

Rajeev’s a heavyweight in the food industry with over two decades of experience and multiple awards under his chef’s hat.

He’s even fed Bill Clinton!

We started our evening with three mocktails — the Levo Cooler, Cinnamon Cooler and the Thai Cooler (all `250). The Levo Cooler was a refreshing drink, while the Cinnamon Cooler was sweet with strong hints of cinnamon. The Thai Cooler had a heavy dose of basil that was pleasing.

We started our dinner with Over Rusted Plum Tomato Soup (`200) which was served in a cute teacup with a cheese crostini — a great start to our meal. Next came the Sambuca Prawns (`500) which is a staff favourite. And after a few mouthfuls, it became one of ours too. The garlicy prawns combined with the slight sweetness of the Sambuca sauce went on to define our experience at Levo. Levo is worth visiting for this dish alone.

We then tried bite-sized portions of Pizza Diavola (`550) and BBQ Chicken Pizza (`450), both of which were good — I quite liked the fact that the BBQ Chicken Pizza had the right amount of sweetness of barbecue sauce. For the main course, we ordered the Mushroom Risotto (`550) and Lamb Navarin Printanier (`850). Though I’m not fond of risotto, I quite liked the risotto which had juicy porcini mushrooms served with gorgonzola and mascarpone cheese that made the dish a creamy delight. But, it was the lamb that had me licking my fingers (metaphorically — I was using a fork). The New Zealand lamb was cooked to perfection and the vegetable stew served alongside was just right.

A faultless meal in my opinion.

Considering our dishes had been so delightful, it was hardly surprising that our spoons effortlessly scooped up the Chocolate Decadence (`290). It is aptly named, for the moist, melt-in-your mouth cake was truly a luxurious indulgence. Their Chilly Icecream (`250) is also a must-try.

Our experience at Levo was fantastic. And while every dish was unique, it’s the Sambuca Prawns that I’ll be coming back for soon.

oodle Town is a small outlet at Carter Road, in the same line as Cocoberry, that opened its shutters two weeks ago. Its yellow interiors with sunny tables and chairs with red upholstery makes this eatery hard to miss. As the name suggests, on offer you’ll get variety of noodle recipes (all of them Indianised) with instant noodles (Maggi) as their main ingredient.

The menu is limited, but manages to include all the popular flavours that Indians enjoy their noodles with. They have six varieties of noodle dishes: Punjabi Tadka, Schezwan, Manchurian, Pasta Arabiatta, Thai Red Curry and the Noodle Town Special. Apart from this, they also have chicken tikka noodles and boiled egg/omelette noodles. You can also add paneer, egg and chicken to your order.

We ordered for a vegetarian Noodle Town Special (`80) and Thai Red Curry Noodles with chicken (`100). The Noodle Town Special noodles had a mix of cheese sauce, Schezwan sauce and Hariyali sauce, with vegetables such as capsicum, carrot and baby corn thrown in. Served in a thermocol bowl, the quantity was good enough for one with a moderate to large appetite. The dish, spicier than we expected (the menu said it’s mildly spiced; it is not), was a tasty twist to instant noodles and we enjoyed it a lot. On the other hand, the Thai Red Curry Noodles, faded in comparison to its vegetarian cousin.

While they were generous with the chicken pieces, the flavour was quite bland.

Noodle Town is planning to introduce some more varieties soon.

You might think that this can be a hot spot for a quick meal, but they take a good 20 minutes to make the noodles! Reasonably priced (the costliest combination going up to `100), this outlet will be popular with college kids and on days when you just want to gorge on some Maggi, albeit with a twist.

REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY:

The Nifty rose substantially on Thursday (October 03, 2013) a net 129.65 points (2.24%) and closed at the 5909 point level. The market opened up with a gap at the 5819 points level. It then declined by a few points and registered the day’s low at the 5802 points level at 9.20 a.m. The index then rose steadily throughout the session and registered the day’s high at the 5917 points level at 3.06 p.m. and then turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty remained above its previous close throughout the session, moved in a range of 115 points level and closed above the psychologically important 5900 points level.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Volume: Volume (Qty shares) increased 21.71%. This change is substantial and indicates a wide participation by investors.

Market Breadth: Overall Market Breadth on the NSE was positive. Amongst all the traded stocks, 876 were gainers, 465 were losers and 67 remained unchanged.

Slow Stochastic Indicator: The Slow Stochastic Oscillator has risen and has exited the over-sold zone. The Slow K line in the Stochastic Oscillator has risen above the slow D line (positive and a buy signal).

RSI Indicator: The RSI is above the 40 level and is now rising (positive if it continues).

MACD Indicator: The MACD is above zero but is rising (positive if it continues). It is below its 9-day Average (negative).

ADX Indicator & DI Lines: The +DI line is above the –DI line and both lines are diverging (positive if it continues). The ADX is falling while the Market Index is rising, which indicates that the present up trend is decreasing in strength.

Moving Averages (Trend Indicators) The index: Has crossed above its 5-day average (at 5828) Positive.

Resistance Levels: The immediate main resistance is at the 6123 points level. The next resistance is at the 6223 points level.

Pivot Point Analysis: For intra-day traders the support and resistance levels are calculated according to the pivot point theory and are: Pivot point = 5877 (This is the level where the trend is likely to change during intra-day).

OUTLOOK FOR TODAY: On Japanese candlestick patterns the index af ter having formed a doji pattern (indicating indecisiveness amongst investors) has formed a long white body candle on substantially higher volumes. In fact, yesterday’s candle is almost like a white body Marubozu candle. (A White Marubozu forms when the open equals the low and the close equals the high). Moreover, the body of this candle is above and outside the body of the previous candle indicating a range expansion and acceleration. Thi s is positive and indicates that the bias has shifted towards the buy side of the market.

Further, the index has crossed above the 5, 15 and 200 days moving averages in a single session. Moreover, the velocity parameters which were negatively trended have now turned neutral. All these indicate a positive bias and the possibility of a further up move unfolding. Technically, s inc e the downwards risk seems to have reduced, Investors may consider buying in small quantities in shares that are fundamentally sound and have a long- term potential.

Overall Market Strength/Weakness: The indicators and oscillators discussed here are indicating a strong market with a positive bias.

Britannia Industries enjoys the key position in the branded biscuit category where the company enjoys 1/3rd or around 33% market share in the biscuits market size of $2.2 bn branded biscuits category in India. Britannia’s profitability was continuously under pressure with lower EBITDA margin. Britannia operating margin were in the range of 5%-7% in last five year though the sales growth were reasonable over 16% CAGR. In last two quarter we have witnessed substantial margin expansion with 8.9% and 9.2% in Q4FY13 and Q1FY14 respectively.

According to management, the margin expansion is driven by companies focused efforts to drive efficiencies in back-end through cost management program, premiumization trend in market, improvement in the product mix towards high value-added products and price increase taken by company. At the consolidated level, the company’s large subsidiaries are in Dubai (SFIC), Oman (Al Sallan) and in India (Britannia Dairy). Both Al Sallan and Dairy business turned profitable in FY12. We expect profitability of the dairy business to improve even further.

With a new CEO at the helm we expect the company to continue to improve its performance. Further, the management has guided that the company is likely to benefit from stable food prices on account of good rainfall this year and will help it to maintain or improve the expanded margin.

Further, Britannia has defined its manufacturing strategy where it’s increasing its reach to the consumption markets through in-house manufacturing especially for its premium products. The management aims to push up the proportion of inhoused manufacturing from the current 45% to 65% in the next few years. We are of the view that this strategy will improve sales, and margins going forward.

Company will drive the growth by further penetrating in rural market which will counter the slowdown in urban market. We believe that, Britannia appears to have hit a sweet spot in its strategy of using price hikes and a richer product mix (new and premium products) to combat rising costs. Britannia’s focused effort to drive efficiencies in back-end through cost management programme is yielding benefits.

At CMP of Rs. 824, stock is trading at 23.3x and 18.6x PE for FY14E and FY15E respectively. Britannia trades at 15-25% discount to listed peers ITC, Nestle, Marico & GSK Consumer, largely due to low operating margin. However, due to ongoing structural changes in company’s revenue and product mix, the operating margin will improve and this discount could narrow down gradually. Britannia enjoys strong operating cash flows, consistent dividend payouts and healthy return ratios. We recommend BUY with TP of Rs. 1061 (FY15E PE 24x).

Bank’s Capital Adequacy Ratio registered at 11.35% as on 30.06.13 under Basel-III. Global Business of the Bank rose to Rs. 6318630 mn compared to Rs. 5602030 mn as at June 2012, with a y.o.y growth of 12.8%. Canara Bank has posted a net profit of Rs. 7920.70 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2013 as compared to Rs. 7752.40 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2012. The Bank’s gross NPA stood at Rs. 73290 mn, with a gross NPA ratio of 2.91%.Net NPA stood at Rs. 62090 mn, with a net NPA ratio of 2.48%.

The Bank aims to reach an aggregate business figure of more than Rs. 7000000 mn, with deposit growth of 15-17% and advances growth of 1618%. The Bank plans to take the number of branches from 3770 to 5000 and number of ATMs from 3754 to 10,000 and also plans to open branches at 14 overseas centres by Mar’2015. The Bank received “Best Bank of the Year Award”, instituted by The Bangalore Management Association (BMA).

During Q1 FY14, the Bank’s clientele base increased to around 50 mn, comprising 43.50 mn under deposit & 6.4 mn under borrowal accounts. Net Income and NII of the company are expected to grow at a CAGR of 9% & 6% over 2012 to 2015E respectively.

Outlook and Conclusion: At the current market price of Rs.227.00, the stock P/E ratio is at 3.67 x FY14E and 3.60 x FY15E respectively. Earning per share (EPS) of the company for the earn ings for FY14E and FY14E is seen at Rs. 61.82 and Rs.63.06 respectively. Net Sales and NII of the company are expected to grow at a CAGR of 9% and 6% over 2012 to 2015E respectively. Debt-Equity ratio is expected at 14.83 x for FY14E and 14.68 x for FY15E. Price to Book Value of the stock is expected to be at 0.36 x and 0.33 x for FY14E and FY15E respectively. We expect that the company will keep its growth story in the coming quarters also. We recommend ‘ BUY’ in this particular scrip with a target price of Rs. 254.00 for Medium to Long term investment.

India Tops Global Chart Of Remittances

ndia has topped the global chart of remittances with a whopping USD 71 billion in remittances in 2013, just short of three times the FDI it received in 2012, according to a revised World Bank forecast.

Top recipients of officially recorded remittances for 2013 are India (with an estimated $71 billion), China ($60 billion), the Philippines ($26 billion), Mexico ($22 billion), Nigeria ($21 billion), and Egypt ($20 billion), the report said.

Other large recipients include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and

Ukraine. “These latest estimates show the power of remittances,� said Kaushik Basu, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. “For a country like Tajikistan they constitute half the GDP. For Bangladesh remittances provide vital protection against poverty. In terms of volume, India, with $71 billion of remittances, tops the global chart. BUSINESS BRIEFS IOC Disinvestment Roadshows Postponed

The Department of Disinvestment has put off overseas roadshows to promote the sale of a 10 per cent government stake in Indian Oil Corp (IOC) following stiff opposition from the Petroleum Ministry, which cited poor market conditions. “IOC roadshows have been deferred. It is not happening this month. We will see again next month,� a government official said. The roadshows, which were planned to attract foreign investors for the disinvestment in IOC, were due to start in London today, followed by the US, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai next week. The Petroleum Ministry opposed the proposal, saying the country’s crown jewels could not be sold at low prices.

Fund Raising Via Primary Market Surges Two-Fold In Aug

Fund raising by Indian companies through primary market route jumped more than two-fold to over Rs 1,700 crore in August as against Rs 747 crore in July.

With the latest fund mop-up by companies, the cumulative amount mobilised for the current fiscal (April-August) has surged to Rs 3,967 crore through 18 issues, higher than Rs 1,140 crore raised via 13 issues during the year-ago period.

The Securities Appellate Tribunal has asked National Stock Exchange (NSE) to offer fresh hearing chance to Religare Capital Markets with respect to a freak trade in some securities earlier this year. The Supreme Court today raised a question on the new Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) of the Centre to fix the ceiling price of essential medicines on the basis of market-based pricing. It was some time before the release of Murder 3 and I was doing a photo shoot for a magazine when I happened to meet Ashwin Varde, the producer of Boss. He felt that I could be a big star and took me to meet Akshay Kumar, the producer and star of Boss. He also said that he saw the same potential in me as he did in Sonakshi Sinha and Katrina Kaif and explained the role in Boss to me. Your bikini clad pictures have caused a furor. Do you have anything to say about people’s reactions?

It’s rather silly in this age of the internet for people to react this way. The photographs are not cheap but aesthetically shot and picturised by director Anthony D’Souza. It’s not like if you accept to wear a bikini in a film, you are bound to bag it.

What was it like working with Akshay Kumar?

He is always making others laugh on the sets with his jokes and pranks, but in front of the camera he is serious. However, he made me really comfortable.

What about Mithun and Danny?

They are amazingly co-operative. I have always been huge fans of both. Danny sir used to talk to me about the Vippasana form of meditation.

Did being a trained dancer help?

Yes, it did. Dance is a form of acting and it helped me immensely during the shoot.

Are you satisfied with what you have?

I thank God for giving me such films and my career, and I will always remain the person I am.

Sonakshi learns folk dance for Bullett Raja T

he gorgeous Sonakshi Sinha has always charmed the audience with her simplicity and is back with Bullett Raja, to woo her fans. This time, she will be seen as a Boengali beauty and has left no stone unturned for her role in the film. We here that she will be seen performing a Bengali folk dance called ‘Jhumur’.

She will be portrayed as a typical Bengali woman with the quintessential red bordered saree, a big red bindi, flowers in her hair and alta on her hands. When asked about the look Sonakshi said, “This is for the second time that I am playing a Bengali girl. I have played a Bengali in Lootera, but that was drastically different. I was a 1950s Bengali girl, the daughter of a Zamindar. In Bullett Raja, however, I am playing a contemporary Bengali girl. I loved my look and I wished the sequence we shot in the costume was a little longer, because I did not want to get out of it.” About the traditional dance, she added, “Jhumur is a beautiful feminine traditional dance, and Brinda ma’am being so good at what she does, taught me really well.” Releasing on November 29, Bullett Raja is premised on a fictional mafia based in Uttar Pradesh starring Saif Ali Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Shergill, Vidyut Jamwal, Gulshan Grover, Raj Babbar and Chunky Pandey.

HE last three months have had the high of films like The Lunchbox and Ship of Theseus and the low of Grand Masti and Besharam.

In between have been the usual hits, flops and also rans. An

RINGSIDE VIEW Deepa Gahlot ugly controversy broke out over the choice of The Good Road over The Lunchbox as India’s official entry for the Oscars – a war of accusations and counter-accusations fought through social media and the press.

The success of a film as crude and depraved as Grand Masti was disheartening, particularly when it looked like mainstream Bollywood was aspiring to higher standards. Close on its heels came the crass Besharam, starring IT boy Ranbir Kapoor, whose choice of films so far has been impeccable. A lot was expected from Abhinav Kashyap, director of Dabangg, but his film turned out to be a big letdown.

So eagerly awaited was this film, that no other major release was scheduled a week before and after, which might turn to be the reason why Besharam makes money. Films like Warning, Mazii and Prague were hardly expected to last through the week.

The other disappointment turned out to be Rajkumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, from which Shahid Kapoor had great hopes, since his career has been a bit thanda of late. If a director has to fall back on his own past successes to fuel the new film, it’s a sure sign of trouble. But this film still had some redeeming points — the unmitigated disaster of the quarter turned was Zanjeer, an awful remake of Prakash Mehra’s cult hit by Apoorva Lakhia. Southern star Ram Charan’s Hindi debut was a dud.

Fresh and perky was Maneesh Sharma’s look at modern-day love and commitment phobia — Shuddh Desi Romance. Prakash Jha’s Satyagrah was fiery and topical even if it didn’t quite hit the spot. Also picking ideas from real life were Shoojit Sircar’s political thriller Madras Café, Milan

T had been reported some time ago that Sonam Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana will be coming together for the very first time for a YRF flick to be directed by Nupur Asthana and now, we have learned that the film will be titled Bewakoofiyan.

While talking about how the title was chosen, Nupur revealed that they had started shooting for the film without thinking of any name for it. However, it was when music composer Raghu Dixit made her hear the song Bewakoofiyan that the team decided that the name was apt for the film. Bewakoofiyan also stars Rishi Kapoor and the film is a funny love story set against the backdrop of the economic recession.

Chennai Express to release in Egypt A

FTER the political turmoil that affected the people of Egypt, there is some good news for them.

Indian films are all set to release in the country starting off with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express.

UMBAI Women’s International Film Festival will lead off from October 8 for seven days, organised by Oculus Creations with the support of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and promises to deliver a broad programme which expects to feature more than 150 films from across 70 nations. This is the first time in India that a festival showcasing the works of women filmmakers is being showcased. The first edition of MWIFF has HDIL’s Broadway as its official venue partner with films to be screened at Broadway Bhandup, Broadway Oshiwara and Broadway Borivali.

SALMAN KHAN’S upcoming film Mental, which has now been titled Jai Ho, will have one more Bollywood actor in the film.

Buzz has it that Suniel Shetty, who has played the role of an Army officer in films such as Border, LOC - Kargil and Main Hoon Na, will be seen essaying the role of a military officer in Jai Ho. It seems that Suniel, who will start shooting for the film today, has already got a crew cut for his role as the military officer.

Jai Ho is said to be the remake of South flick Stalin.

Ranbir Kapoor’s stammer in Jagga Jasoos

AFTER playing the role of a deaf-mute man in Anurag Basu’s Barfi, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen speaking with a stammer in the upcoming detective film Jagga Jasoos.

Kapoor, who had recently revealed that Jagga Jasoos is a detective film, added that his character will be someone who speaks with a stammer in the film and hence, sings to express himself. Kapoor had also revealed that he will be playing a teenager in the film.

Jagga Jasoos has been described by Ranbir as a mix between Tintin, Indiana Jones and Sherlock Holmes.

Pooja Bhatt won’t be a ‘bad’ girl anymore

ACTRESS-PRODUCER Pooja Bhatt, who was supposed to produce the Randeep HoodaRicha Chadda starrer Bad, has reportedly walked out of the project due to financial reasons. Bhatt has also taken the title with her, which means that the film will have to look out for a new title now.Confirming the news, Pooja said at an event that she decided to part ways with the project and that this decision was taken mutually for financial reasons. Bhatt however added that she has retained the title Bad with her as she wants to make it a franchise and make other films in the series.

"Hope I can play for the country for such a long span as Sachin (Tendulkar) has and remain as fit as he is. His fitness level is amazing. If I can achieve 60-70 per cent of what he has achieved so far in his career, I will be more than happy," said Kohli.

"His hardwork is very inspiring for the younger generation," he told reporters at a function where his endorsement deal with the leading sportswear brand, Adidas was announced here.

Replying to a query, Kohli said South African speedsters -Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel -were the two most dangerous bowlers he has faced in his international career so far.

On his preparation for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia, Kohli said the hosts would not be taking their opposition lightly and remained upbeat about winning. "The Australia series is going to be competitive. Even without injured Michael Clarke, they are a strong side. But I am confident about winning the series," the 24-year-old said.

EW DELHI: Ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari crashed out of the World Championships as India’s campaign in both recurve and compound individual events ended today on a disappointing note at Belek in Turkey.

None of the Indian archers, except Rajat Chauhan in men’s compound event, could go beyond the Round of 16 in the individual events in the men’s and women’s sections. The Indians though are in the fray in the team events. RANKFURT: Bayern Munich and Real Madrid produced dominant performances in the Champions League as the likes of Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo found the net on a good night for Europe's top forwards.

Robben helped Bayern outclass Manchester City 3-1 away, a demonstration that Bayern's defense of the title is right on track with two wins from two games.

"We controlled the match and that is important in the Champions League," Bayern's coach Pep Guardiola said.

Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria scored two goals each for Real Madrid in a 4-0 rout of Copenhagen, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic notched a brace for Paris SaintGermain in a 3-0 demolition of Benfica. They were all outdone by Kostas Mitroglou, who scored a hat trick to lead Olympiakos to a 30 victory at Anderlecht. Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk, while City's former coach Roberto Mancini steered Galatasaray to a 2-2 draw at Juventus, just two days after taking charge of the Turkish side.

Ronaldo's two goals against Copenhagen raised his total for two games to five, following a hat trick in a 6-1 win at Galatasaray on the opening matchday. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said he was pleased with the game, saying it had a good beginning, intensity and balance.

UMBAI: Rubbishing reports that Sachin Tendulkar has been asked by the BCCI to retire after his 200th Test, the Board's Secretary Sanjay Patel today said it was the senior batsman's prerogative to decide on his future.

"That is absolutely absurd and rubbish. Let me tell you, it will be the prerogative of Mr Sachin Tendulkar. Board has not talked or asked him to resign (retire) and the Board is never going to do it because he is such a great player," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel told reporters here.

Patel was reacting to media reports that quite a few Board members were of the opinion that the record-setting batsman was past his prime and chould be told to call it a day after he completes his landmark 200th Test appearance, against the visiting West Indies next month.

The Windies are to play two Tests and three ODIs during their visit and the 40-year-old Tendulkar has played 198 Tests.

"We appreciate the concern (from media) about this. But I ask

my good media friends, please refrain (from speculating) and from going (ahead reporting) with such wrong details," Patel said.

The BCCI Secretary put the onus entirely on Tendulkar and the five-man selection panel about his cricketing future. "It is entirely up to Sachin Tendulkar and selectors. The selectors should (choose to) pick him and Sachin Tendulkar should be ready to play. Board is very happy with whatever (decision) Sachin Tendulkar is taking of his own free will," Patel elaborated.

BCCI HAPPY WITH PRICE IT GOT FOR SERIES TITLE SPONSORSHIP There was just one bidder in fray and the sponsorship rights went for the base price but the BCCI today said it was happy with the deal it struck with Star India Pvt Ltd and ESPN for all 13 home international fixtures till March 2014 considering the difficult economic times.

The BCCI awarded the title sponsorship for all international series and domestic tournaments in India for the year 2013-14 to Star Private and ESPN Software at the base price of Rs 2 crore per fixture, almost Rs 1.5 crore less when compared to their previous deal with Airtel.

"The market situation is such that at one point of time we thought it will be very difficult to get the sponsorship considering the turmoil in the financial market. But we are very happy (with price)," Board Secretary Sanjay Patel told reporters after the BCCI's Marketing Committee meeting here.

BCCI NOT HAPPY WITH EXCHIEF MANOHAR'S ACTION The BCCI took strong exception to former President Shashank Manohar's attempt to get his name expunged from the legal cases against the Board with Secretary Sanjay Patel saying that the move amounts to shirking responsibility. "There was no question of affidavit (filed by Manohar in the Bombay Hight Court) being discussed. But (what was discussed) was the case fought by Shashank Manohar in his individual way (capacity) leaving aside the other office bearers and the employees of BCCI. That thing was discussed. Members were not happy with the kind of thing that has happened," Patel said here.

"BCCI rules and regulations and memorandum is very clear.

The Board is functioning under the superintendence (authority) of the president," he added.

SYDNEY: Australian captain Michael Clarke has admitted he may not be fit for the first Ashes Test against England next month, with his longstanding back problem needing extended treatment and rest. Clarke was ruled out of Australia's one-day tour of India this month and while desperate to be ready for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on November 21, the star batsman is pragmatic. "Where I sit right now is I don't know when I'll be back playing cricket," he said. "We have no idea how long it's going to take. There's certainly no guarantee (for the first Test) at this stage. It's hard for me to say that because I'm trying my best not to look at it like that. I'm always positive and if they ask me, I'll say I'll be fit in a week's time. But you ask Alex (Kountouris, team physio) who knows me very well, and he'd say there'd be doubt I won't be right."

SA consider franchise ‘quotas’, to include two blacks in every team

CAPE TOWN: South African cricket officials are set to consider a proposal forcing professional franchises to include at least two black Africans in every team. Another item expected to be discussed at an October 11 Cricket South Africa (CSA) meeting will be the need for second-tier, semi-professional provincial sides to select three black Africans. CSA have not commented officially on the proposals, but an official who attended recent transformation talks told AFP both issues would be debated.

While the six top-tier franchises have picked numerous mixed-race or Asian-origin cricketers in recent seasons, there has been a dearth of black Africans on view. Fast bowler Makhaya Ntini carried the black African banner in the Test, one-day international (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) teams for many seasons. Since Ntini retired two years ago, black African fastmedium bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe has been in and out of Proteas teams in various formats.

IGU announces team of six for Asia-Pacific Seniors

NEW DELHI: The Indian Golf Union has announced the six-member national team for the Asia-Pacific Seniors Golf Championship to be held at Montgomerie Links Golf Course in Danang, Vietnam from November 20 to 23.

The team above the age of 55 will have four players from Noida Golf Course -- Gangesh Khaitan (Captain), Vijay Kumar, Nalin Kant, Brig. Ashish Dube. Kolkata's former Asian Games gold medallist Lakshman Singh and Chandigarh's IPS Mann were also selected at the All-India Seniors Championship played at Classic Golf Resort, Gurgaon in September.

ONDON: Former Manchester United manager [inset] Alex Ferguson has said that his onetime star midfielder David Beckham had "lost focus" following his marriage to pop star Victoria Adams of the Spice Girls.

Ferguson, who retired as United manager at the end of last season following a trophy-laden stint of nearly 27 years in charge at Old Trafford, oversaw the early year of football icon Beckham's career. But relations between the pair became increasingly icy with Beckham, who would become England's mostcapped outfield player, leaving United in 2003 to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Ferguson, in an interview with US television network PBS, a transcript of which was carried on the website of Britain's Times newspaper on Wednesday, said Beckham and his wife saw a change in their "celebrity status" after marrying and expressed astonishment at the player's later decision to join the Los Angeles Galaxy, then little known outside the United States, in 2007.

"As a young kid when I got him at 12 years of age his great desire was (to play) some of the best football," Ferguson said.

"He was a fantastic trainer, practised all the time. At night-time he would come by with the schoolboys and practise with them.

And he was in that collection. And

then of course, his life changed, when he married the girl (Adams) from The Spice Girls, yeah. And his focus changed," the Scot added.

"He got drawn into the -- that celebrity status, you know? And for me, I'm a football man. I'm a football man. He lost the focus. And when we sold him to Real Madrid, he did well."

Beckham won one La Liga title in four years with Real before moving to the United States. "I couldn't believe that he goes to LA Galaxy," said Ferguson. "I couldn't believe that. I couldn't understand that. I would never do that, you know?

If I was going to go, I would be making sure he would go to the best, and Real Madrid was the best, I would say, and United."
